A sculptor, Igor is trapped in the flames that burn down his museum and destroy all his work. Twelve years later, he reopens his new wax museum but there's one reporter who's struck by the resemblance between a wax statue of Joan of Arc and the dead Joan Gale, whose body is missing from the morgue. She begins to dig some information hoping to find out the truth about the museum. A fun little film with impressive production and two-strip technicolor that gives it such a wonderfully creepy tone. Get a bit stuffy in the middle but it's very atmospheric and entertaining. I wasn't expecting the comedy but it manages to hit both notes really well. The protagonist lady infuses some fun energy to the film and she absolutely steals every scene she’s in. I've seen only 2 films with two-strip technicolor so far, this film and Doctor X, it's more fitting and overall looks better on this one.
Trying a little too hard to be modern and PC, and that doesn't have a good effect on the movie as a whole. The fact that I found myself more invested in how Billy & Ingrid are gonna end up than the kids' wedding didn't help the plot all that much either. Does have its moments, but ultimately not all that much soul or chemistry.
