I read the book, and listened to the book, way before the movie was announced. When the movie was announced, I was very excited to see the possibilities. There was some weird tie-in with my favorite band, Rush, who only had a minor role in the released movie.
Growing up in the 80s and being a huge video game nerd, this movie hit me on so many levels. My first watch of the movie was in the theater shortly after theatrical release (in some crazy, new fangled 3D technology) and it was great! However, I left the theater thinking that the book was much better than the movie. As others have pointed out, there are significant differences between the two.
[INTERLUDE] - My first computer was a TRS-80 Color Computer and was ecstatic to read about is inclusion in the book. Sad to say, it didn't make it to the big screen.
However, after watching the movie several times at home, I can grow to appreciate WHY the changes were made between the book and the movie. This movie has climbed into my #3 all time movie slot - which #1 and #2 will likely explain why.....
1) The Shining
2) Raiders of the Lost Ark
3) Ready Player One
4) Ronin not applicable to this review
Anyone who lived through the 80s should watch this flick - you'll likely see something you recognize.
I would drop 0.5 points for the differences between the book and the movie, but I cannot justify giving it a 9.
10/10

Another action movie that is just that... The first one is the only one that it's actually good out of the three.
Not like first ... just an action movie. For free times.
Enjoyable. I now know how it's possible to stop an airplane when you are late for your flight!
Thanks of the tip Bryan :)
Not the best film in the series, it does suffer from sequel fade but still action packed
this was boring....don't even ask about the camerawork...this 3rd installment wasn't necessary...'Taken' should have been a stand alone movie....
The next time Liam Neeson makes another Taken movie I will find him and I will kill him... So glad that this forced trilogy is finished. They should've stopped with the first movie.
Ordinary plot, decent action, and Liam Neeson has became a somewhat invincible superman instead of a believable experienced agent with tactical and martial prowess like he was before.
But WHO was really taken?
I haven't played the games, but for this series I'll give it a shot....
The performances at times I didn't like at all....
I loved the scenography, and the action scenes were good, although I would have liked to see more...
The plot (without having played the games), seems good to me and gives me the chance to continue, but I would like to expand it more...
The number of episodes, by duration are good, although there are some slow moments...
In general it is a good adaptation and I think I would watch other seasons, if they know how to carry the story well...
I would recommend it...
9/10
I'd like to see if Lucy makes Maximus' dick explode.
They completely nailed the look, feel and vibe of the games and it's fucking amazing.
My review for Fallout Season 1. Obvious spoilers.
Will have the summary, then pros list, then cons list.
Summary (p.s. it's long.) This show may be a 10/10 for me honestly. I'm not trying to be bias or a Fallout fanboy but when I tell you that I never got bored of this show or never felt something didn't belong, it's true. I tried desperately to write a con that would drop the rating but I honestly couldn't find anything.
All of the storylines blended perfectly, all of the characters were interesting, the directors respected the lore (Massive plus, especially coming from a Halo fanboy... We know what happened with our show..), and the ending just brought it all together beautifully. I found myself on the edge of my seat with the mystery of Vault 31-33, I was saddened by the Ghouls past, interested in how Maximus would end up with his confliction between the BoS and Lucy, and invested to see how Lucy reacts to the harsh reality of the wasteland. Not to mention, the overwhelming brutality and realism of the wasteland. Amazing stuff. Anything less than a 8/10 is a crime imo.
Pros:
First episode was (hopefully not bias) pretty much perfect. Perfectly matches the vibe of the games, the characters set-up are interesting, Brotherhood of Steel storyline starting off great, and the raiders sequence was pretty much perfect.
The biggest plot twist is the Paladin in Power Armor just flipping out when a bear attacks him. Absolutely hilarious.
Once again, amazing action sequences.
The little bit of backstory for The Ghoul is a great parellel for who he is now. He wanted to be a hero who didn't break but became a bounty hunter who kills without mercy.
Just gotta say, Maximus stands on business..
Wow, this show really shows no mercy so far. Annabel losing her eye, Wilzig losing his leg, then life, Maximus losing a tooth for caps, and now the Ghoul lost his finger and instantly cut Lucy's finger off in revenge. Really well done showing how much you can lose in the Wasteland.
I am loving Norm's storyline with the vaults. Especially after the Overseer gave 32 a "make over". The aura around that scene is amazing.
Once again, another Vault, more interesting stories. But that's how vaults always been.
NV references is always a win.
I love the parallel of Thaddeus hoping for the death of Ghouls in the beginning to inevitably becoming one. It's honestly a hilarious bit of karma there.
I adore how Maximus' character is going. He's stuck between to sides, the Brotherhood and the side that's right (Lucy for the most part). His actions depend on who he favors at the time and who would give him the home he desires. But ultimately, he decides to be by Lucy's side. That's the person he wants to be.
I feel for the Ghoul in the past. Discovering his wife is in on the end of the world.. Total destruction of the heart.
Wow, just wow. Way to bring the Lucy and the vaults story to a close in the end. The mystery of the Vault 31-33, how Lucy's mom died, and the truth of Lucy's dad. Amazing conclusion.
After learning how Lucy's mom died, I understand how connected Lucy and Norm are to her. Lucy may be Naive but she has a heart of gold like her mom. And Norm may be the black sheep and uninspired but his intellect led to discovering the vault secrets like his mom. A massive pro in this department.
To add to the previous part, Lucy being naive progressively begins to realize the reality of the world, which shows when she kills her ghoul mom. Something she didn't understand when The Ghoul killed his friend. And then Norm, despite being uninspired, becomes invested in uncovering the truth of vaults 31-33. They really strengthen their weaknesses throughout the season.
Man, after all Maximus did to get to Lucy and leave the BoS, he now has to play the role of knight again. Without the desire he previously had, but with confliction and the passion to be with Lucy.
NEW VEGAS AT THE END! Is Lucy and The Ghoul going to go against The House now? I guess we'll find the canon ending of NV next season as well.
Cons:
I read this theory that says that the whole movie takes place in Kate's head, like a re-imagining of something tragic that happened to her. Her tattoo is a snake eating itself, which is a symbolism of Kate's madness.
The article explains that Kate IS Ms Jessel (the former nanny). She worked at Bly Manor and was charged to raise Miles and Flora, but she was afraid of Quint who was a creepy pervert and one night, when she tried to escape, he sexually assaulted her. She fled the manor and abandoned the children, and she went insane because of the trauma and her regret over leaving the children. She was taken to an asylum, and the movie is Kate in her head living out the life that she should have had, the path that she should have taken in which she saved the children and escaped with them from the clutches of Quint.
There are a lot of things that prove that Kate is Ms Jessel. First, Kate always sees Ms Jessel through a reflective surface (window, mirror, etc...). In Kate's fantasy, things are perfect and Quint is dead, BUT, due to her subconscious, Quint keeps creeping in at several points as a ghost and through Miles who is actually a manifestation of Quint. Miles wears the same clothes as Quint and rides a black horse just like him. Besides, the first time Kate sees the ghost of Quint is when he is walking into Miles' bedroom. Miles also almost forces himself on Kate at one point and kisses her, which would be a symbolism of the sexual assault that Quint carried out on Jessel. At one point in the movie, Kate believes she is being attacked by the ghostly hands of Quint, which could be a flashback of her past sexual assault.
At the end of the movie, she returns to reality where she is back at the asylum, and when her mother or rather Kate turns around, she sees her own face, and this is why she screams.
Flushed Away (2006)
Dir: David Bowers & Sam Fell
Flushed Away is an adventure comedy animation about a rat called Roddy who lives a luxurious lifestyle in a flat in Kensington, until he gets flushed down the toilet into the sewers of London. (I know, iconic.)
Flushed Away definitely isn't the best animated film ever released, but I honestly have to say that it may be one of my favourites. It is a genuinely laugh out loud film for children and adults alike. The premise, like the majority of animated films is so ludicrous that it makes it so fun to watch. Rich rats, poor rats, evil frogs, singing slugs, you name it, it's in there. But as goes with films like this, I give so much credit to the writes for managing to pull together these outrageous story lines as well as creating hilarious quips and innuendos throughout. I honestly think that writers for children/family films are actual geniuses when they manage to land jokes for all audiences.
Flushed Away feels like one of those films that got lost and forgotten in Hugh Jackman's filmography nowadays, but I honestly love it so much and I really would recommend it, probably for a younger audience though.
I quite like Flushed Away, and when the opportunity to rewatch it came along I wasn't very hard to convince.
Nice story with good character development, but what makes this one is the voice actors. Especially Ian McKellen, Jean Reno and Kate Winslet.
Above average family movie recommended for any fan of animation.
Flushed Away is the most underrated animated film of all time and I beg you to watch this fun family film, I watched it as a kid and funny enough I think I like it more now as an adult. Really need to give a shout out to Jean Reno (Le Frog) who had me in stitches.
Simply put, one of my favorite "family" movies ever. I've watched this multiple times and STILL laugh...and usually at the same scenes. The storyline, the slugs, the various one-liners and "pay close attention or you'll miss 'em" jokes throughout, all of it added up to a hilarious movie that was fun not just for the kids but for the grownups as well. After watching Hugh Jackman in all the X-Men movies as the nearly-infallible "Wolverine", it's hilarious to think of him as a bumbling little high-society rat...but he pulls it off beautifully. Definitely one of my favorite "fun" movies ever and definitely worth watching when you just need a laugh!
What starts out as a standard horror film soon turns into a plain dumb, unbearable and often incomprehensible hot mess that tries too hard to shock and forgets to entertain. Genuinely surprised seeing its average rating on Letterboxd as this garbage should have never been made and is undeserving of such high ratings. Yikes.
Screw you guys, I'm going to watch South Park.
it's South Park, do you need more to start watching? you can rewatch and rewatch and never get bored
Your sense of humour will never be the same again. The most straightforward and witty animation to ever have happened.
Absolutely astounding! I’ve been anticipating this sequel for years and after many delays, it was very much worth the wait. There’s just so much to love about Art The Clown and his cruel, creative ways. This movie really fleshes out some of the lore behind Art, and adds a whole bunch of new vectors of fear. I was stoked to hear Boy Harsher made the OST as well. Anyway, I can’t wait to buy this film to own when it’s out of theaters. One scene caused some normies to walk out of the theater, but if you’re s slasher fan, you’ll very much enjoy this film unlike those yellowbellies. I could go on and on about each scene, but I don’t wanna spoil even with spoiler tags. 10/10
I don't know where all the negative comments are coming from. I loved this sequel.
The Matrix Resurrections keeps to the theme of the original movie, while leveraging plot points from the previous sequels to resurrect the Neo  Trinity love story after 20 years (according to the movie timeline it's 60 years) .
The Matrix movie critics love to over-intellectualize the philosophy of the story arcs and characters. Over the last 20 years, I've heard critics trying to justify religion (ex: Buddhism) using the Matrix movies. Today, reading the comments here, this seems to have evolved into people trying to explain transgenderism using The Matrix (maybe because the creators of Matrix are transgender?).
I always believed that these movies oppose group think and are about breaking free from hive-minds and intellectual-echo-chambers (aka The Matrix). For example, Twitter today, with its Leftist cancel mobs, is a great example of a Matrix. Every time I read about a famous person getting "cancelled" or "de-platformed" by a social media platform, I picture an image of Neo being dragged out of the embryonic sac and getting violently unplugged by machines and thrown away (from the original Matrix movie).
For me, as a career software engineer, The Matrix movies are also about algorithms and logic. The unpredictability of a code base as it gets larger and complex. Eventually, leading to anomalies and vulnerabilities. I loved Neil Patrick Harris' performance as the new Architect of the Matrix. What a legend!
Is the franchise getting stale? Absolutely. It's a formula movie franchise. I watched all Fast and the Furious movies and the spin-offs too. I'm not the one to judge.
