Under the Banner of Heaven

It's a slow burn but the as the story progresses it reels you in until you can't let go.
I'll have to admit I haven't seen Garfield in much before this but his performance blew me away.
One of the things I liked the most is that in the entirety of the series there is not one single filler shot where it's like a five minute music video without progressing the story at all which is like a plague in almost all other major productions these days.
This just tells the story and what a doozy of a story it is.

Dracula

This went from Wow, that first episode was great to Welp, the second was definitely not as good as the first all the way to Well, that third episode was complete dog shit.

Outer Range

Take one part Yellowstone, one part Stranger Things, one part Dark and pour liberally from all the weirdness in Twin Peaks and you pretty much get this.
Even though it got a bit too weird for me I don't think I can stay away from season 2.

Barbarians

This derives heavily from the shows Vikings and Game of thrones but I found it very enjoyable.
But I'm not chiming in the quire praising the show for the Romans speaking Latin as I think that's a novelty at best and the show wouldn't have been any worse had everyone simply spoken German (not a German speaker myself).
After all no one seems to have a problem with people speaking unaccented German at least half a millennia before the language even started to take its current form.

Mare of Easttown

Stellar performance by Winslet who probably does the best role of her entire career and that's really saying something.
Pulls you in from the very first episode and ends every single one in a cliffhanger that never unravels entirely as you would expect.
This will leave you beaten, bruised and heartbroken.
One not to miss.

The Last Enemy

Very enjoyable.
Solid performances throughout and and a heavy Black Mirror vibe.

I'll Be Gone in the Dark

HBO missed the mark on this one.
This was marketed as the hunt for the Golden State Killer but in reality it's a biography about Michelle McNamara that's intermixed to a frustratingly low degree with hunting a killer.
The whole thing is poorly made with a lot of filler.
There is a substantial amount of time in this that's just text messages on screen not to mention that they use one specific scene from The creature from the black lagoon over and over and over again.
I'm not a Netflix fanboy by any means but I can't help wonder if they couldn't have made this a lot more interesting as this really is subpar.

Sharp Objects

It's 6AM, the sun is coming up and I'm just in a state of shock after binging the entire series.
This was the bleakest, darkest and most beautiful thing I've seen since the first season of True Detective.
If Adams doesn't get an Emmy for this then there truly is no justice in the world.
