One of the most genuinely fun television shows I have seen in a while, Dirk Gently is a show driven by its whacky character's and surreal events. Admittedly it fumbles the ball slightly in it's second season, but it still manages to limp over for a touchdown. Worth your time, even though the show's cancellation robbed it of the satisfying ending that it deserves.
This first act of this movie is a great example of building a realistic feeling of dread and unease. Sadly it is hindered by the movie's slow pace and predictable story in the latter acts.
Enough material to make one very average SNL skit is stretched out over a whole movie. The only reason this is bearable is because I love Charlie Day and Ice Cube.
A typically run of the mill crime movie, the only real interesting part being that the events are based on a true story. Johnny Depp's make up never looks real to me and ultimately made a lot of this movie more comical than tense.
