@kbogesz You're misunderstanding. He wasn't cleared, the evidence just didn't match him. He didn't have to admit it, he chose to do it to not risk being convicted for it again in a new trial with who-knows-what consequence. He admitted to it and his sentence was the time he already served, that way he doesn't go back into prison (for this crime).
