This is definitely not a movie for everyone (most people?), but it is definitely a movie for me — I loved this thing. The voice over/humor is hit or miss, but I did not find it annoying, and I often found it funny. The action sequences are phenomenal, but the editing is chaotic and often handheld-like. The story and characters are just a means to drive the movie forward, and to go from one set-piece to the next, often building and expanding in ridiculousness. The end fight had some absolutely visceral moments. A lot of the action is so over the top that I just laughed and had a great time. Not the last fight. That thing is a drag out, dirty, amazing piece of choreography.
Bad score/needle drops. The music did not fit a lot of the scenes.
This movie answers the age-old question "what if we mashed up The Finals, The Hunger Games, and John Wick?"
Moana is an amazing movie. It keeps up with the well known Disney format of an independent leading character which all the children aspire to be like! It has great songs, absolutely gorgeous animation with the colours beaming out of the screen, and one of the funniest sidekicks in movie history! What could be a better formula for a movie!
Really enjoyed it. The songs were catchy, characters had good chemistry, and it was visually stunning. This is the third Disney princess movie in a row that doesn't make the female lead rely on a love interest, and a rare movie that keeps her parents alive!
The kids have already asked to go see it again.
Movie isn't as bad as everyone says it is. Treat it like an origin story movie that sets the scene for a larger universe...
Yes, first hour is pretty slow and at times the dialogue is clunky but you can still find enjoyment out of the film.
The bad guy gets killed by a big piece of product placement.
Great fun and stunning cinematography. Especially in the shadow realm. Natalie Portman was incredible and Taika kept a decent balance on the humour and heart of it all.
I loved every part of it. I was a beautiful family movie and the 7 year old was too cute for words. Elle is exceptionally beautiful and quirky in this role. I recommend it to everyone. It was lovely.
This movie was a nice surprise, I think it was a really good heart warming movie, I was really impressed by Maggie Elizabeth Jones (Rosie Mee)
It took me forever to finish this. It took 5 sittings over several weeks, but I'm glad I finished it. It's not my cup of tea, just a bit too out there for my taste. But the point did come across and it was a sweet one. It started great imo, but was too long to stay enjoyable, but it wrapped up great, which made it a decent 6.3 I'd say. I get why it gets higher ratings, but it's just not for me (like pulp fiction, 'one of the greatest films ever created'). Might watch again with friends, but not by myself. The watched-box is checked now, well done me.
Loosely based on a true story! A few unexpected twists, a couple laughs, pretty good.
I enjoyed it a lot! A fun lowkey comedy for sisters & messy gals… for me it struck the exact right blend of formulaic comforting heartwarming and quirky surprising humor. whoever created this part for Sandra Oh is a genius too
Awkwafina is always hilarious, tony hale makes a great ben franklin and rip paul rubens.
A fun movie
My Wife picked this to try, we had no real expectations as most movies lately seem to be just ok, but this was better than expected. Quite a few moments of a good laugh, some touching moments, and all-in-all a fun comedy worth a watch.
Awesome movie. Kept me from the beginning to the very end.
A good film with a nice balance of humour and sentiment. There is a sense of honesty in the characters that ensures the film never becomes too mushy.
Thomas Mann does a great Werner Herzog impression too.
this film moved me a lot. It has the right dosage of humor, art and sentiment. The cast is perfect. Best movie of 2015 so far
The style of this film is honestly the main thing I like about this film. But essentially that covers a lot of ground if we simply split a film into style and substance; the boundaries of which blur as each affects and is affected by the other.
As another reviewer mentioned, the essence of the style feels Wes Anderson-esque but set in a more modern, realistic world. I for one, extremely enjoyed this in the framing, camerawork, character styles, editing and story structure.
One thing I'm not sure about was the character of Earl. But as I think about it, maybe it's just because he wasn't the type of character I was expecting.
I can see why people wouldn't like this film but that's exactly why I do like this film. It's like someone who's unapologetically themselves - can't please everyone.
Just writing this review as made me up my rating by 1/2 a star.
Deadpool 2 tastes much better than your average slice of leftover pizza.
An assured directorial debut for Jonah Hill; this is an affectionate, nostalgic, and moving tale of isolation, friendship, and the need to be a part of something.
Mid90s was really beautiful and did well in terms of fitting in different subjects. The film made me laugh, shocked me, disturbed me, made me sad, made me relate, made me feel REAL. Made me feel like I am not alone in terms of dealing with shit, we all go through shit and Mid90s really demonstrated that subject. "A lotta the time we feel our lives are the worst. But I think if you look in anyone else's closet, you wouldn't trade their shit for your shit." It really made me think about and appreciate what I have in my life and who I have in my life. The characters really were memorable in every way and actors in general just had good chemistry which made the movie the most enjoyable. Additionally the cinematography was amazing and couldn't have been any better. It really felt like it was the 1990s.
The ending was pretty bad in my opinion. It's not that I thought the scene was bad, however, more that I just did not expect it to end in that way and it just lead me to wondering what the fuck was the point and plot of the movie? Jonah seemed to lack in understanding what he wanted to prove or present. We get that it is a skateboarding film and that it is a connection and reminiscing film to skater individuals who grew up in the 1990s, but what was the plot? It seem to lead nowhere.
Otherwise, still very enjoyable and definitely would recommend and watch again myself. 8/10.
A bit thin, and certainly nowhere near as good as some other of the movies in this genre, but the cast is excellent, the script is clever, and it all feels genuinely sweet.
"what a treacherous thing it is to believe that a person is more than a person".
What the hell was this movie about? What was the plot? No questions were answered, only added. What is the Scorch, what is the Flare? It all felt like some action packed movie just taking you from the first movie to the next one without adding anything to the story. Big thumbs down.
Even though the action sequences are entertaining, they are all a distraction to a frustratingly messy plot that doesn't only fail at moving the story forward, but also ignores the questions posed in the first film, and adds too many others to count.
World Catastrophe Killzone Department, or W.C.K.D., wicked. And I thought SHIELD acronym was lame!
:weary:
So, the Sun scorched Earth's surface, and simultaneously, a virus turned the survivors into zombies. Man, talk about bad luck! But no problem, there are a few children who happen to be inmune to the virus, so, instead of developing a vaccine or a cure, let's build a huge Hunger Games style arena with some deadly cyborg robots, throw the children there, and if they somehow survive, then... Huh, you know what? I'll tell you what happens, but in the sequel.
No wonder why this movie is so very fast paced. If they slowed down for a second, people would realize how extremely stupid it is.
Honestly, if it wasn't for the slow plot and the ages not making any sense what so ever I would have loved this. The story was heartwarming, heartbreaking, funny, and relatable all at the same time. The soundtrack was headboppingly perfect. It made me cry and headbop, sometimes at the same time. The characters were played brilliantly by the actors, but the ages they were given took me out so many times. I loved the morals and portayal of family, friendship, relationships, and just life overall. The first time experiences and the last time experiences all for different reasons. Oh, and the 90s vibe hits warmly.
Travis was great in Vikings but he had no charisma or screen chemistry. It comes off like a poor TV movie.
