The biggest disappointment on TV in 2024. This series should have been released the way it was conceived - as its own thing not connected to True Detective in any way. Unlikable characters, bad music, plot holes aplenty and a lacklustre mystery. This was worse than season 2.

If you liked Mare of East Town earlier this year then you'll probably like this though it feels more somber in a certain way. Where Mare had the funny family dynamic to lift up the mood in every episode, American Rust is all about the perceived realities of living in a small town in the Rust Belt and people forgotten by the modern world who are just trying to get by. I like shows that portray the world outside the big cities so I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.
Well it is a Jerusalems Lot adaptation. I suppose if you’ve never heard of that and Stephen King then you’d be surprised.
I’ve watched all 4 episodes currently it feels to me like this series doesn’t know what it wants to be and they’re cramming all police procedural ideas into this and hoping that something sticks. It became even more disappointing when they had to ride the modern bandwagon and start cramming “institutional racism” in there too. I’ll give it another episode or two but it’s on a downward spiral.
It was an alright movie. Third wave feminism nods were on the nose - girls changing car tires because boys can’t, girls standing against bullies in a bar because men are scared to, etc. It was better once it left 2020s social commentaries behind and concentrated on the actual story. Ending wasn’t terrible either. At least not compared to other recent releases (looking at you The Little Things).Still had a lot of silly unbelievable moments but it’s expected in this genre and watchable. I’d still recommend the previous version rather than this one. At least you’d be dealing with a straight up slasher movie that knows what it is.
Absolutely stocked to see this when it comes in February!
