So many gender bent anime this season (Winter 2023) and this one was the best among them.
While the genre is highly-controversial but if you put that aside this is just a "cute girls doing cute things" themed anime for the most.
With entertaining characters and a catchy opening theme this became one of my top anime(s) of this year.
Can’t be sure but the husband sure seems guilty. At the very least he’s a jerk — I don’t care how bad a kid you think the son was, it’s wrong to keep any part of his mothers ashes from him. Photographs, etc.
Really enjoyed 90% of the film, maybe it's me getting older but I'm just not impressed with how movies are being concluded these days. Loved the story, the Irish sentiment, abstractly tackling mental health, acting was good though. A solid enough movie for directors debut film
Easily the worst of the season, such a shame because this season was on a roll too, did not care for this one whatsoever personally.
A crazy idea: Let s make the next episode about Vampires...
Not for epileptics my god
I don't know what this plot is trying to convey. You said it might be a satire of paparazzi, but then suddenly a celebrity hits someone and flees. You think the female protagonist will use secret photography to expose the truth, but instead, she finds out that the female celebrity is being held captive. You think that the plot will reveal that the doctor is a pervert, but instead, the female celebrity suddenly turns into a werewolf and goes on a killing spree. You thought this might introduce other fantastic plot twists, but she is injured by the female lead and returns to her original form. The female celebrity asks the female lead to kill her, and the female lead hands her the gun. The female celebrity drinks the bullet and commits suicide. Then, the female lead takes a picture of the scene, and that's the ending. I am full of question marks.
Again, didn't feel like a Black Mirror episode at all. Could be "American Horror Stories" but not BM. What a letdown
Went on reddit for some much needed clarification. Couldn't make out the point of that whole monkey madness plot, somebody had put up a nice little analysis on the same(thank you stranger). Holy shit this movie is dope. It should have been called dope.
Idk why this film got so much hate. Usually my opinions conform to the consensus lol. I dunno I just really enjoy Peele's work and his take on horror/black comedy.
To all the people leaving negative reviews, just take some personal insight. This movie wasn't supposed to be obvious, you're supposed to come to your own conclusions. Sure some themes are more readily given than others, but you should really just pause and think "what could this be symbolizing right now" instead of "this movie was flat why was the shoe standing up." I have my own hypotheses and I've watched tons of reviews and just watched Grayson's Projects on youtube talk about it and I fully agree. If you have zero thinking skills you're not gonna enjoy this movie.
Another winner from Jordan Peele. I avoided any spoilers and it was worth it. That being said, I’m leaving this review vague.
I stand no chance of articulating my feelings towards this movie to the same high standard as some have already in the comments, but if you're not a fan of deeper readings, metaphor and underlying messages in your movies, steer clear of this.
While it should be par for the course with a Peele movie (given the majority of Get Out and Us are equally entertaining for their deeper meaning), I'm noticing a lot of takeaways from this movie being negative because it's only being taken at face value. The surface story here is very flat once the pieces are on the table, but if you read past it and figure out what the movie is trying to say, you'll pull much, MUCH more from this movie. Please read Andrew Blooms post in this comment section for a full dissection of all the themes presented and the overarching message here. Then again, if subtext and movie dissection aren't something you find enjoyable I guess this movie won't ring as loudly with you as it has with me.
Personally, I think I enjoyed this more than Us, but less than Get Out, but I haven't seen Get Out for a while so maybe that'd be different now. I'm just glad we've got someone making original horrors in a world of Disney and Marvel overload. Please never stop Jordan, you're doing great work.
Glad I take Trakt.tv comments with a grain of salt because this movie was quite literally a work of art. I’m a sucker for anything that toes the line of cosmic horror and Jordan did this beautifully.
Even without listing off metaphors or “you just don’t get it” statements this film stands alone as a slow burn tension building horror/scifi epic. As long as you’re willing to accept not every question needs an answer, and not every “otherworldly thing” needs an origin story, this should be a fun ride for you. This checked all the boxes of what I want in an alien movie for me.
Rated it a 9, but so close to a perfect 10. There were some odd character choices and I do think it’s about 30 minutes too long but I found myself not wanting it to end by the final act anyhow. SO GOOD!
It was a fun watch. Not a slam dunk for sure - didn’t hit consistently, had some jarring editing that took you out of scenes at times, but what it did hit was fun. Entertaining watch overall.
Not sure what other people were expecting... I thought it was the perfect blend of humor, action, gore and even some heart.
At 93 minutes, it was a lot of fun and didn't drag at all.
Great episode, but it didn't feel like Black Mirror. It's missing the sci-fi element, the dystopian topic, the futuristic technology aspect.
It had potential to be a decent horror film and/or franchise. But in the end it was just another cheesy movie. Also, the score/soundtrack is awful. It doesn't match the themes most of the time.
So disappointing. Kinda laughable. Maybe that's what they were going for.
The classic teenage slasher. I will never get tired of this movie.
how could a film that bases an entire storyline around a Ratatouille joke not be absolutely fantastic?
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Terrifier 2’:
Just as with the original, they really captured the 80s horror vibe so impeccably well. The score, the shots… these creators really knew what they were doing.
Equally as brutal as the original. But each film has their own strengths and weaknesses. This sequel certainly had better acting, stronger characters, and a more fleshed-out story. But there was something more horrifying about Art in the first film, when he was seemingly just a very real and sadistic man in a dirty clown suit. I feel like the supernatural elements took away a fraction of the terror. It didn’t spoil the film, but there was definitely a shift here in its tone.
Apparently, I need Art to come wash my whites.
I have a close friend that absolutely loves the campy, overly gorey, absurd world of 80's horror movies. Many times he's sat me down while staying at his house and invited me to watch "classics" (in his words) such as Chopping Mall, Demons, Demons 2, Sleepaway Camp, Slumber Party Massacre and many others. They are all cut from the same cloth, dripping with synth-filled soundtracks, dated world views and absurd, hyper violent storylines. Like it or not, Terrifier 2 captures the exact essence of these "classics" (again, his words) down to the minute details. Arts mannerisms, the gratuitous violence, the buckets of blood, the awful acting and woeful script, all tentpoles in the genre it's trying to mimic, and it mimics them pitch perfect. If you love these style of movies as much as my friend does, you'll have an absolute blast with this sequel. The gif-worthy expressions of Art and the insanity of some of the scenes are sure to become iconic in the right cult circles, and I can already feel it becoming a classic to many from the tweets already being posted.
Unfortunately, I prefer my horror a little more high brow and a little more straight faced so this did nothing for me, but I appreciated what it was trying to do and how perfectly it executed it. For the right crowd, this is a modern classic in the making, but for me it's a total whiff. Overly long and just not my brand of horror, but that's not saying it's bad. It's just not for me.
I remember seeing this when it first came out, it was unique, it was groundbreaking, it was well directed and well acted. Today it seems almost predictable, this does not make it a bad movie, just makes you realize how many other movies copied something from this one.
Having heard great things and seeing the rating on here, I had high expectations. It was mediocre at best and extremely predictable.
Best episode of this season.
A sad but beautiful short story. Might not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it. Cool to see Lincoln in something different.
They saved the best for last. Beautifully made. A full movie in 68 minutes. Each character makes sense and you care deeply for the woman and her husband.
Also deliciously creepy and shocking where appropriate, but those moments are in service of a much greater whole.
An excellent piece of cinematic storytelling.
If I were to rate this on a scale for horror, it would be low. Yes, there is a ghost story buried in this but in reality, it's a love story wrapped around loss. So I rated it for the drama it is. (It reminded me more of an independent film trying to win awards hitting all the cliches)
This was only the 2nd episode of the whole series that got my attention throughout, unaware of what was going on or away to happen. It’s about a man who has everything, including things that no others have or can have. I will watch again as a 2nd viewing may lead to revealing more.
