I thought Ex Machina was (although flawed) an excellent movie, Annihilation was just crap though. Apart from the outfits, there was nothing even remotely military about any of them, the whole thing just didn't know where it was going or why, it was a huge confused mess. It probably would have made a good TV episode in an anthology show, but just not enough there to make a decent film. It put me in mind of Arrival (easily the worst sci-fi movie of recent times), low-brow junk masquerading as high-brow gold. Both were designed from the ground up to make stupid people think they are really smart. If a film is advertised as 'highly intelligent' they should at least be moderately intelligent, but this doesn't even come close. The fact the ending is somewhat ambiguous and there are several different theories about it doesn't mean the film is cleaver, it just means the ending has more than one interpretation. I'm not saying films should spoon feed you all the answers, in fact, I hate when that happens, It's great being able to contemplate a movie and it's meanings after the fact, the problem here is it gives you so little of worth to actually think about.
this was definitely a fresh surprise! liked it a lot!
Kimetsu no Yaiba - the Movie continues where the first season of the anime left us and finally shows us the capabilities of a Hashira. Rengoku definitely steals the show and his fight at the end with the Upper Demon is just beautifully animated.
Anyway I do believe you should watch the series before diving into this movie to get to know what the characters are after, how the universe of this movie works and to have a bond with the main characters.
I like the fact that the movie is canon and that season 2 will continue from the end of this movie. Wondering if they will recap it though. Still this movie has made me even more excited for season 2!
The soundtrack and animation are top notch. The story was still interesting but I do believe the could've made the runtime 15 minutes shorter. However it was lovely to see the subconscious of our main characters in Tanjiro, Inosuke and Zenitsu.
Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train was well worth the watch for me and I'm very much looking forward to the next season of the show.
When Noa was on the operating table, and Steve said, I'm taking your ass! I just burst out laughing. :joy:
THIS IS A PERFECT MOVIE! I really wish for a sequel!
An ingenious vehicle for poking and prodding the clichés present in almost every horror movie made over the last thirty years. Part self-referential tongue-in-cheek a'la the first Scream and part identity crisis horr-edy in the same ballpark as Shaun of the Dead, it adds a bevy of original salts and spices and emerges as something completely different. I was told to avoid spoilers like the plague, and I'd strongly advise you to do the same - it's not a premise that translates well to explanation, and half the fun lies in the viewer's slow internal realization of where it's headed.
Brilliantly paced, unrelentingly funny, thoroughly unpredictable and boldly written, (with an ending so ballsy and appropriate, I wanted to stand up and cheer) this is one of the brightest, most daring, original efforts I've seen in years. Great fun that may be directed particularly at hardcore fans of the genre, it's just opaque enough for casual viewers to have a ball, too.
Even though i've read the manga and already knows the outcome, still...the onion is real. It's a train ride (pun intended) full of pure emotion at the end. What a way to end it. Can't wait for the next episodic arc which is the Red Light District arc.
First half: Almost family friendly if you take away the kills. Very festive with lots of Christmas decorations, good looking winter landscapes and a cozy looking house set. Some story elements reminded me of The Grinch. It'll lose a lot of people in that first half, it's such a stretch before the action starts and the comedic attempts don't really land. It's constantly on the verge of being campy fun but it never gets there unfortunately. The characters are at least mildly enjoyable and the acting is ok.⠀5/10
Second half: The movie completely transforms into non-stop campy fun absurdity! There's still a few missed attempts but the comedy is now better. The kills look good to me for the type of movie this is (needed more of them though). I like that they took actors of short stature to do the Elves instead of some cheap CGI or something. This half had Krampus vibes. The tone of this movie is the biggest criticism I can give it, it's all over the place... once I finished the movie I can finally confirm this is way more lighthearted and joyful, don't expect actual horror.⠀7/10
The movie touches on a lot of topics, and shows a lot, but never ultimately explains what happened, it just happens with no explanation.
The ending with Lena fighting her doppelgänger and detonating the phosphorus grenade was awful. What did the alien ultimately want? It is unclear.
"I'm sorry I let you get attacked by a werewolf and then ended the world."
I love that this can take a genre with so many clichés and just flip everything on its head. The third act is so bat shit crazy, I love it! Richard Jenkins is a delight to watch.
Maybe the best part was the end credit visuals with Dancing In the Moonlight playing in the background. Movie was meh.
I'm trying to go through the entire Annabelle/Conjuring franchise and this has been the weakest so far. Scary enough in places but so inconceivable and far-fetched that it was difficult to get through. Way too much teen drama for it to ever really count as a true "horror" movie; this was all about "Bob Has Hormones" and his lust for the cute babysitter. Completely stupid and - unlike some of the others (to date), this one had NO sense of "believability" to it. Tantamount to every "scary movie" spoof that you see, this was filled with "Don't go in there!" "Don't open that door!" "Don't touch that!" scenes that were eyeroll-worthy. If, like me, your OCD insists - yea, DEMANDS - that you have to watch all of the movies to complete the franchise, then just make sure you have your smartphone handy so you can play a game, surf the web, or IM your friends while a huge part of this one is rolling.
Jesus christ! He has become incredibly annoying! Can’t tolerate him at all.
I feel like Sandler is going down or what?
I have seen some bad movies. This? It was bad on a whole different level. An inexplicable circumstance never defined. Plot points that made NO sense. *!!!
I watched trying to determine in Natalie Portman was a good actress. This movie was just awful. Gina Rodriguez... Tessa Thompson... Oscad Isaac... Jennifer Jason Leigh... WHAT THE * WAS THIS??!!!
Alex Garland wrote & directed this. Dude you explain anything. As visually captivating as some of it was everything else was just nonsense. That ending made no sense.
when watching 2008’s Crystal Skull that Harrison Ford was too old to play Indiana Jones any more, and I stick by that statement.
CGI scenes early in the movie were clearly done by the 10th grade work experience kid. Where Indy runs on top of the train, I haven’t seen CGI natural movement and CGI physics that bad since the Garland Spider-Man movies.
The tuk-tuk scene felt like it took forever and a day, and my suspension of disbelief just couldn’t handle it. But then again, people genuinely pay to watch the Fast & Furious movies and actively enjoy them, so I guess that scene was for that crowd.
The big conclusion of the action portion of the movie felt like it was all done in green screen. Something just felt off about it all. It was a scene that could have probably been done on location too. If it WAS on location then what ever they did to it in post needs to be re-assessed.
Token snakes, token bugs. Both forced and added nothing the way they did when first used in the original movies. They don’t need to be in EVERY movie.
They close out with a nod to the original movie, but it was built up so badly it just felt like empty platitudes than a big moment.
Overall this movie was MUCH better than Crystal Skull, but doesn’t hold a candle to the original trilogy. It does actually have the feel of an Indy movie for most of it, which is a good thing. Like Crystal Skull though, it shouldn’t have been made either. Maybe 20 or 30 years ago sure, but not now.
this movie made no sense. i did not know that jason had a sister and now he does and aaaaaaaaah, i dont know i dont know. this movie was beyond horrible.
It's simply one of be best Indian movies in recent years, and especially with a female protagonist. Kangana Ranaut steals the whole show, while all the many characters play vitals parts through out the movie. While being a really fun and light-hearted movie, Queen also touches into and makes some bold statements about the current Indian society. Highly recommend.
I don't care what anyone else says, 10/10 for concept. Queer India felt represented and that's the greatest thing a movie can do honestly. Moreover, the chemistry between Jitendra and Ayushman was gold.
The acting carried this movie, I recommend you watch this after watching the Mindhunter series which is on Netflix because that story happened before this one and describes the start of the FBI's psychological profiling section.
I'm kind of surprised that there are so many negative reviews for this. Maybe not many people wanted a "what if Superman was actually horrible?" film in the form of a horror flick. I was pleasantly entertained and the biggest criticism I have is that the ending feels wide open for further storytelling that I wished I could dig into. I suppose The Boys helped fill that void, along with comics such as Irredeemable, but this feels like there could be some real good storylines to dig into in a sequel.
This is the Gay RomCom I’ve always wanted. Just like all the other Romcoms, except the main characters are gay and not over the top stereotypes either.

While a good film in itself; call me old fashioned but the book and the series is better.
It may be that if you come to this without having read each book when it came out you won't feel like anything is missing. But for me it just didn't quite mesh, for anyone loving that it's an all female expedition - that's just how it is in the book it's not written in to appease or enrage anyone.
From this version with the characters having names, to the myriad other forms it diverges from the books. It just feels too much has been lost.
I won't ruin anything if you do read the books. Which I would totally recommend and have been doing so for years.
This move plays more on the love/wonder/drama aspect of things--not so much thriller/horror/sci-fi. There are only 3 (maybe 4) short scenes with any sci-fi and/or horror.
Of course people will immediately think of other sci-fi titles for comparison and reference, but what I enjoyed about Annilation is that it is basically Alice in Wonderland, except where Alice is a biologist, and Wonderland is an area of genetic corruption. I was intrigued, and entertained, and I enjoyed the visuals, which were curious and beautiful, but not over-done. One flaw is that out of four characters we only really get to know one.
I'm sorry, but this was boring to watch.
Visuals are nice, but CGI was a bit over the top.
Story moves slow and I can't say that either horror or thriller labels would fit this film.
Maybe it's meant for an artistic intellectual audience.
For me it disappointed and won't recommend to watch this..
Yet anther in the long line of "Jump Scare: The Movie" films.
They had some quality suspense building moments, but most of them were squandered on cheap scares instead of doing something more memorable. It's sad, considering the quality of most of the performances. There were more than a few cringe inducing one-liners, though, mostly from the "Rafael Olvera" character.
TL;DR - Save your money and see it when it hits your preferred streaming service.
It's not the best Indiana Jones movie out (that's the third one in my opinion) but it's easily on par with the first two movies and much better than the Crystal Skull. It's just a bit too long - shortening or skipping one of the car chases would have been good.
The end was nice, but I hoped they let him stay and enjoy the past.
