Boston Legal: 5x13 Last Call (2)

Amazing finale to a very good show. So much fun. Gonna miss the chemistry between Shatner and Spade.

U.S. Marshals

"The Great Sam Gerard."

Damn it has been awhile since I've watched a movie but I made a fine choice today. Had this one on my watch-list for quite awhile and I was happy Letterboxd notified me it was available on HBO Max now. So I owned it to myself to finally watch this.

Anyway the "plot twist" is damn too obvious but hey, who cares if you have Tommy Lee Jones chasing Wesley Snipes. A great scene about a plane crash, swinging towards a moving train, a cemetery shootout, a great cast and a happy ending.

U.S. Marshals feels like a late 90's thriller and that is always a plus. I like those movies from that period. I didn't even know though that this was a follow up to the Fugitive which I shamefully have never seen before which I should be watching next! I don't know if that would've helped the experience or weaken it because I might have had higher expectations from U.S. Marshals, but for me it felt like a stand alone movie and a solid one!

Your Name.

"Treasure the experience. Dreams fade away after you wake up."

Let me be honest, it has been a damn long while since any movie broke me like this one did. I'm glad I was home alone today, from the moment Taki and Mitsuha see each other on the mountain I couldn't keep my eyes dry anymore until the very end. Somehow, someway this movie really hit me deep down. Amazing, amazing.

I went in blind. I knew about "Your Name" and I was always sad that I missed my opportunity to watch it at the cinema and today I saw a clip on Instagram about the final meeting spot of the movie and it hit me that it was about DAMN time to watch "Your Name" and luckily for me it was available at a streaming service I had.

The art is beautiful, the soundtrack amazing, the song "Sparkle" beautiful as ever and the movie itself epic.

"Your Name" will stay with me a long long time and I'm happy that my girlfriend just wants to watch "Home Alone" tomorrow so I can relax. What a day, what a movie.

House of Villains: 1x10 Heavy Is the Head That Wears the Crown

Team Banisha! House of Villains was the Bananas redemption arc. Anyway this show was so fun and Joel McHale was the perfect host. I don't know if they can ever top the first season. Chapeau!

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

What can I say about this all time classic? Niiiii!!!!

Sly

"Life is addition up until age 40, and after that it's subtraction."

Never knew Sly was so good at polo. Never knew about his dad knocking him off a horse. Wish he talked about his adventures in the porn industry. Wish we saw more people talking about Sly. Wish they had a whole section about Cobra and Demolition Man. Man, this could've been so much more now that I think about it!

Still it makes me want to watch Rocky again. Anyway Sly is a decent watch but not as fun as the 4 part Schwarzenegger one. He defeated you again Stallone!

Black Adam

"It's been a while since anyone's made the world this nervous. Black Adam. We should talk."

Did't really enjoy the little kid, couldn't really get into the cgi, I did like Pierce Brosnan as the DC dr. Strange, I really enjoyed Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and the Rock was alright and I do want to see Superman vs. Black Adam could be a great fight.

Anyway I had to watch something during my flight back from Los Angeles to Amsterdam and I decided to watch this one. A airplane movie screen isn't the best way to enjoy movies but it was a way to pass the time. Maybe I would've enjoyed Black Adam more on a bigger screen so maybe I'll watch it again someday.

Still I went in with much lower expectations for this one. Somewhere in the back of my mind I thought it would suck so much. But hey, happy that it was better than that. Still not that good though!

Enter the Dragon

"Boards don't hit back."

Enter the Dragon is already 50 years old. 50 years ago Bruce Lee destroyed henchman Jackie Chan. 50 years ago he also defeated Sammo Hung and John Saxon won against Bolo Yeun. Stuff of legends. We even have the classic Kung-fu Claw, the bad guy island and loads of henchman.

Enter the Dragon is a classic martial arts movie and one of it's most populair. I wish we could've gotten loads of more Bruce Lee. So sad that he passed away that young. He has the looks and charisma to do well in cinema.

Anyway so happy this one popped up on HBO Max that I couldn't resist not watching it and I'm glad I did. Great way to spend a saturday night.

Rashomon

"It's human to lie. Most of the time we can't even be honest with ourselves"

Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon is still a fantastic watch and I felt it was even better then the first I watched this 10 years ago or so. Everyone knows the story I believe, we see the same story play out from different views of perspective with a great great epilogue.

Rashomon is certainly a must-watch and one of Kurosawa's best. And it made me want to rewatch Yojimbo and Throne of Blood in the near future and it is certainly time to finally watch some more of his work, especially Seven Samurai. Can't believe I have seen that one yet.

Anyway Rashomon is a import movie in film history, beautifully shot, it teams up Kurosawa and Mifune and it a must-watch.

Man on Fire

"Well, you know what they say. A bullet always tells the truth."

I always enjoy myself some Denzel Washington directed by Tony Scott. To me that is just a killer combination. Here we get a long intro with us seeing the bonding between Dakota Fanning and Mr. Washington and loads of swimming. We get it, we are setting up the action later and once Denzel Washington leaves the hospital to get Pita (Dakota Fanning) back it is all 80's like action. Loads of blood, blown of fingers, explosives and the great sacrifice at the end.

Man on Fire is a fun Tony Scott movie with a stellar Denzel in the lead. Alongside a great cast with Mickey Rourke, Christopher Walken and Dakota Fanning just to name a few. It would've been a more fun one if Tony Scott trimmed some of the fat of it and made the running time around 110 minutes instead of the 140 we got now.

But in the end it still a great one.

Deep Blue Sea

"We will start with the perfect omelette which is made with two eggs not three. Amateurs often add milk for density; this is a mistake."

"Deepest bluest my hat is like a shark's fin", I still freaking love that LL Cool J song and him as a chef named Preacher with a swearing parrot is still the best thing about Deep Blue Sea.

Anyway I used to watch this one a lot when I got it on dvd when I was a teenager and it damn well still holds up today. It is a fun "B-movie" and the type of movie I miss being made these days. It knows it's cheesy but they still gave it their all. It has a stellar cast, equally smart as deadly sharks, Samuel Jackson giving a speech, a explosive ending, a bit of a little swerve, a great underwater facility and loads of fun.

Deep Blue Sea won't be a wasted 100 minutes if you decide to watch it. You'll be entertained and that is exactly what a movie like this is suppose to do.

Memories of Murder

"I only beat you up because I care about you."

So happy I've finally have seen Memories of Murder and so happy it was this good. They nailed the ending, Song Kang-ho rocks, I love all those dropkicks, Bong Joon-Ho is legendary and Korean crime movies are still fantastic.

I don't want to spoil anything about Memories of Murder but you get a well acted, beautifully shot movie with a gripping story and legendary ending.

If you are like me and haven't seen it by now, what are you waiting for! Subtitles are here for a reason!

Beyond the Mat

"My mother was 13 years old when I was born. Why? Because my dad raped a little girl that was in a room asleep. My dad was going out with my mother's mother. There you go. There's some bones for Jake the Snake."

I knew Jake Roberts had a disturbed past but damn, I never knew it was this disturbed. His story is so sad and I'm glad that he's doing better these days!

Beyond the Mat is a very interesting documentary that pulls the curtain away from the old "kayfabe" world of wrasslin'. We mainly follow Mick Foley, Jake "the Snake" Roberts and Terry Funk. All three different people but all three with the same love for Wrestling. We even see a young Rock, we see Steve Austin, Vince McMahon, Paul Heyman and many others.

It's very interesting and I don't want to spoil a lot but it is certainly worth a watch!

Bad Boys

"I don't know why you going home to your wife. You got shot in the leg, your dick probably don't even work."

Bad Boys is still one hell of an entertaining Buddy Cop movie. I still enjoy the chemistry between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, Téa Leoni is one hell of a baddie, Tchéky Karyo does her job well and we get it all wrapped in perfect Bayhem.

Solid, solid stuff!

Tangled

"I've been looking out of a window for eighteen years, dreaming about what I might feel like when those lights rise in the sky. What if it's not everything I dreamed it would be?"

This rewatch made me realise this might be my favorite Disney movie of the past 15 years. It's funny, it has a sad story, very like-able characters, the most amazing horse in all of cinema in Maximus, a very evil villain, an amazing sequence at the dam, a very strong musical scene at the Snuggly Duckling pub and a lovely ending.

If you haven't seen this Disney classic yet, what are you waiting for? It'll teach you how dangerous a frying pan is and you will be amazed by Maximus the horse!

So happy this one held up!

Shrek the Third

"Well, my stomach's aching and my palms just got sweaty. Must be a high school."

I really love Shrek and Shrek 2 but by the time Shrek the Third came along the magic seemed to slowly go away. It's not that it is boring or not funny at all but the magic from the first two entries in this franchise are slowly fading. We did get that amazing Snow White joke with her little dwarf present and I always love Puss and a singing Eddie Murphy never lets me down but the humor was not as inspired as in the first two?

Still, the animation looks more solid and the world of Shrek and especially Far Far Away kingdom is still solid but something felt lacking. Anyway I'm happy it wasn't a boring watch though! And now I'm wondering about my memory of the fourth one. I do remember like that one more! We'll see!

Laura

"I can afford a blemish on my character, but not on my clothes."

Vincent Price without a mustache? Plot twists? A Great ending? Hidden stuff? A shotgun blast to the face? Great dialogue? A scrubby detective? A beautiful dame? Laura has it all. Gen Tierney steals a show. A death but not the death you expect. A great ending and a perfect 90 minute run time.

I went into Laura expecting a lot and it even surpassed it. It had been on my watchlist for awhile but I'm happy to finally being able to cross it off and down the line it'll sure be a film I'd watch again. Maybe now I can find out if many subtle hints were dropped before we found out what truly happened!

If you are not big on Noir movies or you haven't seen many yet, Laura could be a great point to start diving into this classic genre!

Extraction 2

"His last image of you wasn't you walking out on him. It was you going off to save people. And he was so brave, Tyler, when it ended. He said, "I want to be brave like Dad." That's how he saw you. Goodbye, Tyler."

Extraction 2 has the same style as the hit that was the first one and we continue with the long action shots and loads of dead bodies. This time it's a bit more personal and we are getting to know Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), still such a fun name, a bit better. We also get a mysterious recruiter in Idris Elba and this time the baddies are East-European.

Anyway we get a brutal breaking of a hand, a great train-action scene, a rooftop fight and a cliffhanger ending. I am looking forward to the third one and hopefully that one will be released on the big screen!

Extraction is far is a solid action franchise and happy to see the sequel.

Shrek

"Blue flower, red thorns. Blue flower, red thorns. Blue flower, red thorns. Man, this would be so much easier if I wasn't COLOR-BLIND!"

The first Shrek didn't age well compared to some other animated movies around the turn of the century. The animation looks a bit of these days. But that doesn't take away the epic soundtrack, Eddie Murphy rocking it as Donkey, the fun sequences, the fun story and some great jokes. Lovely rewatch! It had been awhile.

Smash Mouth's All Star will be stuck in my head the next few days though!
