The acting is impeccable and the cinematography and directing is truly memorising. However it all feels wasted on such a long, overdrawn and predictable story line. I found myself waiting for it all to end, which it does eventually, just how you thought it would.
The newly introduced character of Ulana Khomyuk is an amalgamation of several actual characters who worked with Legasov to prevent the second explosion. Even though she is fictional, she provides invaluable insight into the even greater danger of a potential second explosion. The possibility of that second explosion is fact. It would have happened if not for the bravery of the three men who volunteered to drain the water tanks.
The conflict between Legasov and Shcherbina was remarkable. This series continues to amaze with its recreation of the event, but adds just the right amount of dramatization without being offensive to those of us who find the facts as, if not more important, than just being entertained.
Surprisingly overrated. It is worth watching once, but not worth a return visit. It is very predictable, right from the beginning.
It would have been better suited as a made for TV SYFY movie.
This movie is just as good as you would expect a movie titled baby driver would be.
The plot is incredibly foreseeable, the characters aren't that interesting, and the whole backstory as to how the main character baby ended up in this position was incredibly far fetched. But the movie isn't all bad, it has some great action scenes, and the way music is used is down right genius. The plot may be terrible, but i would still recommend watching the movie purely for its soundtrack. The songs were great, and it was such big part of the story, i loved the scenes in which they synced the beats up with the gun shots. Sadly i can't rate it higher than a 5 overall.
This is such a wonderful movie. I can't remember the last time I saw a movie that went from being so funny to so sad but even it the saddest parts, it still finds a way to be funny. Everyone is great in this especially Kumail and Zoe. Their chemistry instantly makes us root for them to be together.
(-) Score sounds like it should be for a family adventure film and doesn't fit some of the time.
(-) A lot of the characters are like cartoon characters and not believable, which may of been okay if they were going for a cyberpunk theme but it doesn't seem like it...
(-) Awkward "comic relief" moments
(+) Future technology porn
(+) Scenery is amazing
(+) Camera angles. Camera angles man.
(+) Pretty cool concept
(+) Colin Farrell's hair :)
It's a bit weird how the show was very slow in terms of storytelling all season, and goes into sprint in the penultimate episode. I'm a bit worried about the finale, there is just so much ground to cover.
The plot started off strong, but quickly fell apart as the main character stumbled through location after location after location, wasting time, before finally coming to a boring conclusion that could've been handled a lot better. The film had an interesting premise, but was poorly written. The main character was lifeless and completely unlikable. His motives became completely skewed and pointless halfway through the movie, making the climax even more boring. Coming from the director of Green Room, it feels like Blue Ruin was simply a way to test out his fancy new cameras, before actually filming a REAL movie with them.
The film plays with big themes, not only those surrounding life after death. It would be remiss of me to talk about the ideas the film portrays as it would ruin the mystery that the characters and the viewer are trying to understand. However, I was underwhelmed by the film. In terms of tone and story the film is all over the place, striving for a higher purpose but never quite reaching it. Full marks for trying though.
This season is going to be awesome! Off to a fantastic start so far! :D
Come back Rooster, please netflix
Solid season, even if some main characters aren't as fleshed out as others – we see motivations for Joe and Donna, but don't really get the same for Cameron and Gordon. Sure, all characters are callouts to things we've seen before (the desperate visionary, the obsessed wannabe, the infantile genius, the overwhelmed mother), much needed when you get a show full of technical references.
But that doesn't mean the season couldn't squeeze some insight into Cameron's rebelliousness. Even her relationship with Bosworth feels like a shortcut, without really showing how that trust was built. Hell, we don't even see why Bos decided to get on board with the whole project.
And Gordon, what is up with him? Despite being reinvigorated by the project, we don't really understand much about him apart from his family. We get that he's obsessed and a little deranged, but why does he behave like that?
Here's hoping future seasons expand on these characters. It will be nice to understand what makes them tick, so we can see when – and if – they start to evolve and change.
Kevin.... My God! You are crazy!
