Bhoothakaalam

The climax is a solid 10/10 after the slow pace at which it set the entire narrative.

Heart of Stone

Promised a badass villain in Alia Bhatt and a parallel powerful protagonist in Gal Gadot from the trailer.

Turns out it was neither!

If you are okay watching something that is predictable and have fun finding those stupid plotholes, this one is for you!

Asteroid City

“I still do not understand the play.”
“It doesn’t matter, just keep telling the story.”

Asteroid City is a whimsical and introspective experience that takes viewers on a journey through the realms of grief, identity, and the longing for belonging, The set designs, vibrant color palettes, and symmetrical compositions is, like all of Anderson’s, a visual fest.

While confronting the complexities of loss, it explores how loss shapes individuals, pushing them to seek connection and solace in unconventional ways. However, what sets it apart is its refusal to provide concrete answers or neatly tie up its thematic threads and put forwards the idea of finding solace amidst all the uncertainties.

Definitely warrants a re- watch soon.

Bawaal

Tried very hard to like it but it really fell flat in the last 30 minutes. Holocaust, as an analogy, to fix a marriage where the guy sees himself as Hilter was way too far fetched.

Does it pull you in emotionally? Probably. The black and white sequences are shot with the theme of horror particularly for the Normandy sequence. But does that tie well with the story? No.

It is not a new concept either tbh. Rang De Basanti nailed it by doing exactly this.

If only the movie had been handled with more sensitivity.

Something about the movies with years in them. Been this anxious in a movie after a long time and left heartbroken at the end with a lot of empathy. What a watch!

Fast X

Really tried to get up leave but I guess Momoa’s screen presence was enough to let you stick. Family saga continues!

Barbarian

If you are okay and are not surprised by main characters making some stupid decisions while their life is at stake (why else would a horror movie exist), this is definitely worth a watch.

Went in completely blind and the first few minutes are enough to get your interested. There is a lot that goes around in a few scenes which are really very well done, especially showing what kinda person AJ actually is. A good watch indeed.

Vikram

Vikram is easy one of 2022’s finest - excels in everything - storyline, action sequences, keep you engrossed entirely but what works the best is its BGM - what a magical score!

The Northman

To take a storyline this simple on paper and making it so grand and visually appealing makes this one of the better “paper to screen” watches in the recent times. You can pause at moments, take a screen grab and frame it and no one would think that is not a painting. What beautiful imageries have some of the moments conveyed!

The background score really manages to keep you in the moments - giving that thrilling feel which does make you glue that seat without wanting to blink an eye to ensure you do not miss something in seconds.

Overall, it is a slow burn which does not leave a bitter aftertaste for sure. It takes its own sweet time to conclude and the visuals are bound to stay with you.

One key issue and that might be a factor of the time period but how come women do not become a part of the family tree! It’s as preposterous to see it as it sounds.

Langda Tyagi, hands down, is the most underrated villain and a character exemplified so well by a spectacular work by Saif Ali Khan.

Vishal Bharadwaj being synonymous with good adaptations at least in the Bollywood industry.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Multiverse of Madness is Marvel's gateway to so many things they have not done before. This phase is shaping out to be getting away from the generic Marvel formula!

Sam Raimi has straight up created an eerie atmosphere with well designed horror elements and jump scares which in every sense ensures that the Master of the Mystic Arts isn't mentioned just for the sake of it.
Olsen has ensured that Scarlet Witch is the name that scares you now when you look back the earlier phases - what a joy it is to watch her unfold the layers of the one who should rule it all

Another fantastic fast paced - keeping you at edge of the seat - story post Infinity War which weaves aroundm your mind, without having to have a lot of cameos.

Gangubai Kathiawadi

A missed opportunity from SLB despite having a great cast. The grandeur of sets would not always suffice for the tone and nuance that a story should have.

Every scene in the movie had a hardstop that did not at all mingle with the upcoming turn of events.

Alia is the only saving grace with her spectacular performance - she is ruling on the screen and that speaks volume on the road that she has travelled.

Dhuin

A love letter to Kiarostami. A love letter to the struggles of a small city guy to make it big, the confusion, the self- belief and the doubt that goes hand in hand.

A spectacular watch indeed.
