This is a great freshman season finale. Made better with truly wide ranges of performance from Paul Lee (Appa), complemented perfectly by his counterpart, Andrea Bang (Janet).
The episode is so much bigger than mere 20-minute running time. It's filled with great comedic moments (pimp daddy), perfectly awkward moment at the car rental shop, to poignant finale at the church and aftermath.
This movie is so surprising with lots of romance and funny comedy along the way the relationship of the characters really gel together well Well Done to the amazing cast and crew bringing this amazing movie to life.
First half: Almost family friendly if you take away the kills. Very festive with lots of Christmas decorations, good looking winter landscapes and a cozy looking house set. Some story elements reminded me of The Grinch. It'll lose a lot of people in that first half, it's such a stretch before the action starts and the comedic attempts don't really land. It's constantly on the verge of being campy fun but it never gets there unfortunately. The characters are at least mildly enjoyable and the acting is ok.⠀5/10
Second half: The movie completely transforms into non-stop campy fun absurdity! There's still a few missed attempts but the comedy is now better. The kills look good to me for the type of movie this is (needed more of them though). I like that they took actors of short stature to do the Elves instead of some cheap CGI or something. This half had Krampus vibes. The tone of this movie is the biggest criticism I can give it, it's all over the place... once I finished the movie I can finally confirm this is way more lighthearted and joyful, don't expect actual horror.⠀7/10
So put this on for my wife. I planned to play on my tablet only giving the movie token attention. But dang was this a fun romp. I laughed. I cried (not really). I really liked this play on 1947 vs 2023. Good job Hallmark!
Dawn dropping the 'I'm not gonna write you a love song coz you asked me to'. Subtle jokes as always.
The Gloria and her ex thing is a bit overdone. I guess they're doing it coz her ex is her wife irl but they have a surprising lack of screen chemistry so wish there was something else going on.
[7.1/10] Not bad at all. I enjoyed Elfo making friends with his fellow freaks in Steamland, even if that storyline felt surprisingly disjointed given how much focus it got. Elfo developing a rapport with the seemingly headless, slot-jockeying fortune teller to his right is oddly sweet, and his unwillingness to accept her tarot cards predicting doom and gloom for their relationship feels true to form for the blithe li’l elf. The mermaid’s eye-rolling at it works, and Bean’s rescue mission is solid. Plus, there’s some decent gags about the other residents of the freak show.
Bean’s efforts to escape from Alva’s goons has its moments. I like that she ends up running into her steel horse-riding acquaintance from last season’s Steamland adventure. (Bean’s obliviousness to the woman’s attraction is an intriguing beat, depending on where the show goes with it.) Alva’s romantic salvos have some creepy creativity to them, and it seems like the show is pointing toward a Cinderella story with Bean’s lost boot, Not to mention, it turns out she has magic electricity powers, which is a big twist!
The weakest part of this one is Luci finding a replacement talking cat for Zog, only to get jealous of it. The vaguely Walken-esque cat doesn’t have a lot of laughs, nor does Zog’s continued Madness schtick. That said, I’m compelled by his statement that he has brief moments of lucidity that haunt him, not to mention Luci’s confession that he wants to rule Dreamland.
Overall, this is one that’s more intriguing in terms of plot than humor, but that’s more and more Disenchantment’s mode as it gets further in its run.
Another solid disaster picture. Follows the typical beats and characters a movie like this usually does, but it does it nicely. Brosnan is really likeable in it, as is his relationship with Hamilton.
Absolutely delightful. You don't have to be a Miss Maple or Hercule Poirot fan to enjoy this movie, but it will let you in on the inside jokes. This whole script is written and performed with its tongue firmly in its cheek. It is a wonderful parody with a great cast. It acrobatically delivers its twists within twists. Thoroughly entertaining. I give this film an 8.5 (delightful) out of 10. [Mystery Parody]
I really like the new season cover! Not my favourite one out of all of them. But it's great nonetheless!
it seems like every cult leader ever starts to escalate their stories to previously unknown levels of foolery and I keep thinking to myself "ain't no way these people believe this guy went to an alien planet with pastel coloured squirrel-bear hybrids and had lunch with jesus, mohammad and buddha" but then they DO believe that. also, I'm saying this in the most respectful way I can to not upset the guidelines,, too much..... every single one of them who's wearing this swastika embedded in the star of david necklace needs their @ss b3@t
Maximo: Hugo, you might be too young to understand this, but for adults, coffee is life. It's the one thing that keeps us going until it's late enough in the day to turn to alcohol.
[HBO] "Welcome to Utmark" may be one of the less commercial series that HBO has released this year, but it has an undeniable capacity for attraction, along with a splendid staging underlined by the excellent work of cinematographer Andreas Johannessen, who shines much more than in the "Unge lovende" series (NRK, 2015-). And it introduces elements that are not superficial at all, such as the confrontation between Heige (Marius Lien) and Finn (the almost essential in the recent Norwegian production Tobias Santelmann), which connects directly with the feeling of grievance of the indigenous Sami community against racial and religious colonization, which is present in rural areas of the Scandinavian countries.
We could almost say that this community of unique characters describes rural Norway before the discovery of oil, whose isolation was positive and negative at the same time. And it is capable of using dark humor to squeeze to the limit the primitive roots of the human being, in a story that progressively becomes darker.
Compelling, thorny episode, in which Diane wrestles with a complex dilemma and makes an Alicia-like decision that, excellently, both still stays true to her character but is a betrayal of her friend/colleague and half her principles. Baranski's best showcase in a long while, and she knocks it out of the park, especially her night scenes grappling with that dilemma, both before and after making her decisive move.
Speaking of those scenes, screaming at Elaine May guest starring as imaginary Ruth Bader Ginsburg lol.
Dante's Peak is the ultimate cheese fest. Its kind of in so bad its good territory with Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton leading the way. The volcano erupts and all the craziness ensues. There are a lot of characters that do stupid things in this movie in order to suit the plot but the overall film is still quite fun.
Very good twisty ensemble fun, and there are few underlying themes I admire in a film as much as kindness.
It's impossible not to have a great time watching this movie. 4.5/5
I’ve never seen a person so determined to stand in the way of their own success than Steve. And he was so reckless. It was a miracle the brand survived and thrived at all.
Wow. I was intrigued to watch this. I doubt these believers of a flat earth will ever be proved wrong. They will have a counter answer for everything. Crazy.
Interesting start. What a stellar cast though. Sandra Oh and Holland Taylor. Wow.
I have to admit, this grew on me until I was actually enjoying it.
It starts slow, and a bit crap but picks up pace about halfway through the season.
I watched the first few episodes then benched the series, only going back to it a few months later out of pure boredom of not finding anything else on Netflix. I am glad I did as it has turned out pretty good by the end of the season.
my advice, stick with it!
“I can’t take my mum anywhere” - he missed the perfect opportunity for the Donny Dunn dance that would have been hilarious
Normally, I find Nordic crime dramas among the best -- I have watched several that have been favorites, though "The Lava Field" isn't among them. The scenery is beautiful, but it's not enough to compensate for the lackluster engagement and drying-paint pacing. The acting isn't what I've come to expect for the genre, with the lead detective seemingly taking double the normal xanax dose before he arrives at work. Fortunately, this isn't the Nordic norm, and it shouldn't be long before something more representative of the usual quality comes along :-)
Very interesting and creepy short on alternate dimensions and dopplegangers. Wish it gets expanded upon one day

A dumb fun movie that gets exceptionally dumb towards the end. Enjoy with a bowl of popcorn and logic turned off. Disasters are my passion.
