I was hesitant to watch this show due to following reasons : -
+/- Story &CAST
- The actors do a superb job. I could feel their emotions from across the screen. then again, nothing less to be expected from such a spectacular cast.
-The drama has everything, ranging from bromance, romance to mystery and suspense.
-The bromance is spectacular. One of the most epic bromance I've ever seen in a Kdrama. It made me laugh a lot, but it also had its heartwarming and heart-wrenching moments. Goblin and Grim Reaper's relationship is one of the best reasons to pick this up.
-The two couples- Goblin & Eun Tak and Grim Reaper & Sunny. Both couples had their own story. The sweet and cute moments of the Goblin couple & the sizzling chemistry between Grim Reaper and Sunny was enough to keep the 'romance' meter of the drama pretty high. You won't be able to get enough of the cuteness of Goblin & Eun Tak.
-The mystery of the characters. From 'the lady in red' to the king and queen, each episode just gave enough glimpse into their lives to keep us engrossed. It'll drive you crazy in a good way.
- Gong Yoo was amazing and Go-eun was very good well suited for this show. I almost didn't watch this show because of her role in TKEM which was badly written.
+/- Music:
All of the music was perfectly interwoven with the filmography! I couldn't believe my eyes and ears when Gong Yoo and Lee Dong Wook came strutting down the dark road, it was just pure matrimony. I am a huge fan of the soundtrack and have been listening to it on repeat for at least 2-3 days straight. My favorite song from the album changes from day to day, so that tells you that all of it is simply amazing.
BONUS: Beautiful and addictive OST
+/- CONS:
I personally didn't find anything even remotely bad about it, but that's not to say other people won't, so here's a few things you should keep in mind before venturing into it.
-The age difference between Goblin [ (~939) he was 39 when he died and then immortal for 900 years] and Eun Tak (19). Although the age difference between cast is 10 years so i didn't feel weird in most scenes . Their first kiss was after they she turns 20 and they don't skin-ship in school uniform Compared to Doctors show where they have similar age difference
-Comparatively less screen time for Sunny and Grim Reaper couple. But I suppose that's to be expected specially since the title alone indicates that Kim Shin (Goblin) is the main lead, so it's no wonder they get the most screen time.
-Worst product placement you'll ever see in a Kdrama. You might think I'm kidding but sometimes even the smallest thing can annoy you. I personally found those scenes amusing though.
Overall its a good drama and although at times the plot is slow you will still enjoy the ending... Although i rate this highly it still doesn't have a rewatch value as their is around 40-50% of plot thats very slow paces and almost like a filler.
I don't believe I've ever been so captivated by such a deeply flawed movie as I am with Arrival. What others have written about it—with far more insight than I could—is all too true, namely that the acting is hollow at best and the plot is nothing so much as a severely frayed thread in danger of completely unraveling. It's an utter waste of one of the most creative iterations of extra-terrestrial contact in cinematic history. And yet, despite all of these reasons to dismiss this lamentable execution of the cinematic arts, I can't help but admit…I love it.
When you strip away all of the trappings and examine this movie solely for the essential story being told, you are privy to something very profound, and genuinely uplifting: how humanity's manifold foibles, when put together, might just be redeeming after all. Through the protagonist, Louise, we see the unfolding of a series of personal tragedies and yet her response to them is tempered with unflinching dedication to the accomplishment of something worthwhile, and therein she finds her purpose. At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, I found in this story elements of the best of Disney's heroes, Shakespeare's tragic rulers, and religious texts' unwavering commitment to the belief that there is no such thing as a meaningless sacrifice. While they all could've been done greater justice, I believe their coexistence here is cause to sit up, take note, and eschew any demands for a greater polish and fidelity to realism.
I came away with a greater knowledge of myself and a more forgiving opinion of our species as a whole, and for both of those I am grateful beyond measure. Perhaps in time I'll come to see that the imperfections in its presentation actually work to clarify some or all of these laudable aspects of the narrative,...or perhaps the magic will fade under the weight of familiarity and I'll be unable to defend it again as I have here now. Either way, the two hours I devoted to watching this movie for the first time are ones that I won't ever regret, and perhaps that's the best praise any artistic work can receive, especially in light of this particular story.
A fun series
Jenna Ortega is obviously fantastic as always in her role, and clearly she just gets the character of Wednesday.
Also if you watched this and enjoyed Christina Ricci in her role I would heavily recommend you watch Yellowjackets, a series which deserves more acclaim.
Let down heavily by how 'CW' it ends up being in it's dialogue and insistence on attempting to shove romance into Wednesdays story line which is a damn shame, felt like it should have leaned more into the mystery of it all and less on the "Teen".
The best Wednesday relationships end up being with Thing focusing on the familial relationship, Enid who acts as a contrast to Wednesday in almost all respects, and Bianca an interesting rival, all of which I wish had more focus.
Another unfortunate disappointment was their need to force a tense relationship with the rest of her family, specifically her mother the love the Addams family has for each other has always been one of the core family values, to strip it of that feels like a heavy disservice to them as a whole.
Also the need Netflix has to constantly use queerbait in their marketing tactics while cancelling every lesbian show that they feature and provide no marketing for is old and homophobic, get a new marketing team Netflix you dumbasses
No spoilers here, the only info I'm giving are shown in the trailers.
I watched the first two episodes. It feels like a low-cost Harry Potter. We're quickly in this "weird" school were everything is like in the Harry Potter fiction. The most striking similarity is the existence of 4 houses (as shown in the trailer).
Wednesday it nothing more than an edgy teenager. She's far from being like the "real" Wednesday. The trailer is highly confusing: they showed us a Wednesday that felt like a Wednesday, but they quickly "deconstruct" her in the show, right from the first episode. Without seeing the the end of the first season, I can guess that she will become much more like her peers.
Now, for the good parts, I can say that the scenery is awesome and, as actors, Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers seem to be alright. The lightning could be better at times, bu overall, it's doing a good show at setting the atmosphere.
I wasn't really waiting for this show, but I'm steel disappointed. It definitively does not feel like an "Addams" show. Also, I don't see the "Burton touch". In fact, I'm wondering what Burton added to this show... Maybe the scenery?
