This movie was pretty great! It reminded me a lot of the old weird Al movie UHF with the style of humor. Definitely one of the better movies I've seen this year. I was never really into Harry Potter but everything Daniel Radcliffe has done after that I really enjoyed. It even made me go back and give those Potter movies a chance and you know what, they actually weren't that bad! If you like weird Al's sense of humor you will definitely enjoy this movie.
I actually like quite a few of Neil Marshall's movies but this one was pretty bad. The concept was good but it was so poorly acted and shot I actually laughed out loud a few times and this isn't a comedy. There's about four different actors in the movie trying to do accents but they sound worse than my nephew trying to imitate Crocodile Dundee. At one point towards the end one of the characters shoots the cable to the elevator to get out of the shaft quickly but you can see the elevator cable flying around and knotting up underneath where he's holding it so it's obvious is just a soft rope that's not attached anything. There's actually quite a few scenes that have mistakes like this. They obviously went with the first take On almost every scene in the movie. The creature designs aren't terrible though, it was just poorly filmed. I love the descent which was a very well done film by this director which makes me wonder what happened to make this one so cheesy? On a positive note though,There was some pretty good gore effects and no woke politics so that's an automatic bonus. I mean, I finished the movie so it wasn't bad enough to turn off but it was pretty close. If you like sci-fi channel movies though you would probably actually enjoy it a bit.
If you liked what you seen in the trailer then you will probably love the movie. If you didn't why the hell are you watching it anyway? It's a movie about Nicolas Cage beating up Satanic possessed Chucky cheese robots, what did you expect? I thought it was great!
This could've been a pretty good movie but the story was kind of stupid. It's along the same vein of the eco- horror movies that came out a lot in the 80s where man has disrupted the ecosystem and a creature has been unleashed to get revenge on them. So with this movie, the oil rig has opened up a cavern and leaked oil everywhere in the ocean and the ocean God is mad and unleashes a Megalodon Shark to get revenge on the guy who Signing off on the safety inspection even though it had tons of problems. The shark also seems to have some kind of telepathy to make people see hallucinations. And from what I got from the movie it also causes them to become overdramatic and turn on each other. I hope that's the case because a couple of scenes in the movie the characters just seemed to fly off the handle and act psychotic. Sounds kind of ridiculous doesn't it? On a positive note though it was filmed pretty well and the shark didn't look bad. I think you could take the idea of a bunch of guys stuck out on an oil rig being attacked and pursued by a Megalodon and drop the whole mysticism and it would've been a much better movie. There also would've been a lot more people to pick off with that type of movie.I don't really regret watching it but I doubt I would watch it again.
I personally like the original last shift better. It seemed like a scarier and tighter story that didn't explain too much. Not to say this one is bad, it just seems unnecessary. Nine years is a little early to remake something and if you put them side by side you wouldn't be able to tell which one is the older one visually unlike remaking something like Original the Hills have eyes. But like I said, this one does add a lot of extra content regarding the cult and the back story there. It also goes a little Lovecraft style towards the end. I think the showing too much took away from the horror and made it feel more like a grind house splatter film. It's worth a watch but I wouldn't pass up the original for this one.
You have to wonder about these directors who decide to do videogame movies. They seem to like the story enough to do a movie about them but not enough to stick to the basic plot beats of the game. I didn't really expect much from this movie so I wasn't that disappointed. I have no idea why they decided to try to cram several games into one movie instead of doing them one by one and making a franchise. And since this movie was only an hour and a half long they barely covered any of the events from any of the games and the spots they did cover felt extremely rushed. Now, having played the games they are far from being Shakespeare but the basic story they could have used is pretty good. On the positive side, a lot of the locations they used from the games look spot on and some of the actors actually look like the characters. Half of them were horribly cast though. And for some reason they made Leon a bumbling idiot. I wish they'd finally get somebody who was a fan of the source material to direct one of these movies. Overall, it had parts that were likable but it was mostly a shitty movie and horribly written.
This movie had me on the edge of my seat in fear… Whenever somebody would try to save one of these idiots from the sharks. Thankfully they were too stupid to pull it off. It does make me wonder if they were made obnoxious on purpose so you would root for the sharks. I will say, nothing was more satisfying than watching the annoying blue haired chick get done in.I just find it hard to believe that the writer of this movie was trying to make these characters likable. The movie also like to check a bunch of boxes that movies love to do nowadays. If you watch the movie, you'll know what I mean. Other than that I will say a bit of the shark scenes look pretty good even if the sharks could swim over 100 mph.
After watching the movie I think I can understand the sniper's motives. He must've got tired of completely idiotic people driving through his town stinking up the place and finally snapped. And believe me, everybody he shoots in this movie is a idiot. Some of the things these people do are bafflingly dumb and irritating, something that happens in the last few minutes put the icing on the cake! But having said that, it was an entertaining movie. The premise for it is actually pretty good, The acting not so much. But it's passable. It does have some pretty good gore effects though. It was worth a watch but it does make you shake your head and yell at the TV from time to time!
