You have to watch it like you watch a video clip for a song. The story of the animation does not relate to the conversations.
I liked it, I liked the topics. Every episode is a good conversation starter. I don't think this is a Waking Life ripoff.
I don't know what all of these bad reviews are all about. My husband and I binge watched it in 2 nights. This is a heartwarming story about love and living your dreams. Jason Katims from Friday Night Lights and Parenthood is the Producer/writer so if you liked those shows, you will love this one too. There are 2 storylines in each episode, The trip and how they cope with various ship problems as well as alternating with flash backs of each of the astronauts lives. The writing and acting are superb. Hillary Swank is fantastic as usual. We loved it.
This is NOT an action show as many might expect and hope for. This show is very heavy on the Drama. But that doesn't mean it is not good...it is. It is probably a slightly more realistic look at a "mission to Mars" flight and all the physical and emotional burdens and risks that come along for the ride.
Just a content warning for people like me who didn't know the details of this crime before watching: the first episode features explicit footage of a gruesome real life death. There is no cut-away and it isn't a recreation, but actual footage that shows someone dying terribly in real life. It would have been nice to know this in advance so I could have at least looked away. It's ethically extremely dubious to show footage of someone's final terrible moments for entertainment like this and of course also potentially deeply disturbing. Anyways, having only seen 1 episode so far, that is all I have to say at this point. Be warned. A less exploitative documentary would have cut away, this one does NOT.
