Did Aquaman just reference Loki and Azkaban in the same sentence? Lol
This movie is like the last Thor.. A bunch of friends (and A Heard) gathered to have fun and in the process trying to make a movie. The story is weak, the acting is questionable, it's shot badly and there is no colors what so ever for a movie in the sea. Jason is "playing" himself in the suit of Aquaman, Amber and Nicole Kidman are barely there (i am not complaining about Heard but the way they "handle" it is comical), There is no budget for William Dafoe, jokes are not landing. The villain is the worst in the history of the villains in the first movie, but here is just sad. SPOILER Arthur beats him up every time he sees him. Manta is always running from him (barely escaping) and I am suppose to be scared from him or for Aquaman? Really? Really? He has to die in the first 20 minutes when he discovered the forgotten kingdom and leave a space for a new villain that the movie hyped for us for 2h and kill after literally one breath of air been alive. The dumbest thing ever END OF SPOILERS
Incredibly boring and annoying. It’s the kind of film where they take pride in having bored and annoyed the audience on purpose. Plus all the characters are super unappealing - on purpose again I’m sure… Gosh I really dislike French cinema - except for comedies. As a testament to how terrible French cinema can be, movie theaters in France are required by law to play French movies (otherwise most of the time they probably wouldn’t).
It's boring, that's the problem. The Zone of Interest is completely uninteresting.
Scenery, wardrobe and all of that is very well done, which infuriates me because they could have done such an interesting film if they'd had shown the funcioning of Auschwitz. In that camp there were stories worth telling. Anyways, I regret having spent money in the cinema for this one.
This is a very weird movie, but not by its content. Hard to tell whether it was worth watching.
Visually it's nice, extremely clean and ordered. But 90% of what happens has absolutely no interest. Family picnic. Wife showing the garden to her mother. Some random conversations. Dictation of work letters. Administrative work. It is very boring, soporific even.
The only interest comes from knowing who those people are and the whole context, and the contrast with the banality of their lives, with the clinical simplicity of administrative decisions.
The whole camp is hidden behind a wall. There is just a background noise, far away, muffled, some cries, some gunshots. And the chimneys smoke.
Among what is banal but extremely shocking by the context:
- The mother complaining she could not get her neighbour's curtains.
- The commander getting a new post, but her wife complaining about losing her garden
- The sales pitch of the new generation crematorium
- Being so happy that the plan is named after him that he calls his wife in the middle of the night
- Ashes used as fertilizer in the garden
The only small moments that acknowledge the violence are:
- the wife, upset, threatening the maid that she could have her incinerated just like that
- the commander having a young girl sent to his office
- in the commanders meeting, the word "extermination" is said once, but all the rest is just logistics and quotas
At the end, a cutscene shows people cleaning the camp, and it takes a while to realize they are cleaning the current day Auschwitz museum, I guess showing the continuity of mundane tasks in all circumstances.
So in the end, this is definitely a work of art that succeeds in what it's trying to achieve. However the boringness is what makes it special, and you can't avoid the fact that it is mostly boring. Not to watch when sleepy or tired.
An unfair portrayal of someone who cannot defend themselves.
An interesting movie if you have a pinch of salt handy.
The story of Priscilla and Elvis. We all know it…. But this movie kind of sucked…. There is absolutely no emotion between Elvis and Priscilla…. You can see them acting and badly. Also the height difference, wow! Too profound…I know it was there to prove a point but it goes into creepy…. And the courtship in the beginning really did have creepy vibes. I think this movie does not represent accurately…. No Elvis music…. Ok this pales in comparison to the Elvis movie of Baz…. Disappointed…
Long and kind of boring.
Good performances but that’s about all that can say.
Not sure what the fuss is about.
5/10
Timothee Chalamet absolutely won over my heart with this one. When I was growing up I loved both renditions of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so when I heard they were making a prequel I was definitely intrigued. This was everything my heart could want and more, the songs were sombre and bittersweet - like something out of your childhood dreams. The acting was good, corny at times, but it was the sheer wittiness that gave this film its charm. I would definitely recommend checking this out.
They never should have made this into a "universe".
Overly-complicated long fights that make no sense.
Keanu has 10 lines literally.
The only time he delivers lines with emotion is when he's speaking to Laurence Fishburne or - surprisingly - when he's talking in Russian.
Too many new characters that are there only to be killed / to be forgotten and basically nobody cares about them.
The villain is weak.
Too long, which equals too boring.
I am convinced that people just don't get what a good action movie is these days, not only because of the majority of the comments here, but also most people in my theatre liked it so much. Just because there are long complicated fight scenes, doesn't mean that this is a good action movie.
First John Wick film is a perfection. Second one was also very good. I will rewatch them and pretend that this was never a "universe".
I think Goose and company should get their own movie because they rocked! The extra scene was great too but other than that the movie wasn't marvel magic. It was a normal super hero movie with bad jokes and hope they work.
The fact that the main stream media is telling you not to watch this movie tells you everything you need to know — it's a must watch for everyone!
Pretty decent but Crowe carries the whole cast.
I especially liked how Amorth puttered the 2000kms (1200 miles) from Rome to Castille, Spain on his moped wearing a trench coat, sunglasses and a hat.
It is OK. A decent action movie including Butler, CIA, Iran, drones, nuclear, etc... Could be a little shorter but it's no big deal. 7.5/10
PS:Respects to Roman aka Ragnar!
Another action over the top filled movie with big names. Also part 2 is coming so don't expect closure. Stay for the extra scene. Put your brain of and enjoy the ride!
Breathtakingly beautiful film. The first three quarters have familiar beats but they never get tiring leading to a pinnacle of a last quarter that absolutely broke me. Ends in a picture perfect “happily ever after”, which, for critics, could have been a gripe. But I don’t know who deserves the “happily ever after” more than these characters.
Please watch this beautiful film. If you have anything bad to say about it after, you’ll have to get by me first.
A highly enjoyable no-bullshit action movie. Fast paced, great action, funny one liners without turning to slapstick. I’d love to see Guy Ritchie doing a Bond movie!
Wow what a ride. So much to process. Good laughs and also some tears. Will need to watch it again. Thank you James Gunn for the Guardians of the Galaxy
Well, that plot twist... I didn't see it coming.
Either you love this movie or you don't. I loved it, I think it's supposed to be cringe and everything. I loved the cameos and the story line. I got a kick out of the one liners and references to other movies and shows. Hopefully we'll see more
Oh. My. Gods.
Just so much better than Shazam.
Has everything that a Shazam movie needs.
9/10
Sandberg giving us another almost Raimi style superhero movie that is fun, has heart and also some decent scariness and mfers want to bitch about it.
This is me bordering into "unpopular opinion" territory again.
I don't know what it is with movies this year. Most of those I really looked forward to ended up being a disappointed. I enjoyed the book and I grew up loving the 90's adaptation and I really wanted to love this one, the trailer looked great and I generally love musicals, so I don't know exactly what it is here, that did not sit well with me. Maybe it was the bizarre singing babies opening scene already (creepy af).
I never really got around to listen to the musical soundtrack or even watch it, so I went into this adaptation without much knowledge (only song I knew beforehand was 'Revolting Children') and while the music was mostly fine, I found the songs painfully forgettable.
The actors were okay, I guess. Matilda's parents were funny, but didn't get enough screentime. Lashana Lynch was lovely as Miss Honey (what a voice!) though I found her a bit too meek for most of the film's run. I usually love Emma Thompson, but she didn't really do it for me as the Trunchbull. Pam Farris was fierce and scary, yet oddly funny and entertaining while Thompson nailed the mean-spirited nature, but failed to evolve above that. Her portrayal felt oddly safe. Young Alisha Weir certainly has screen presence and will go her way (and I don't want to be too critical of child actors, it's more the direction and writing I'm blaming here) but Matilda often felt too serious or even too bratty compared to her book counterpart or the relatable portrayal by Mara Wilson, who made her extraordinarily endearing.
I know I shouldn't compare adaptations too much, but I just can't help it. This one was clearly a high value production spectacle but it lacked the heart and soul of the 90s film. The tone was all over the place, it was too long and oddly boring at times.
It had it's moments but overall it lacked the certain something.
And really, wtf was that added subplot about Matilda's story that turned out to be about Miss Honey's parents? That was just bizarre and unnecessary.
My therapist thinks the only reason I keep watching these After movies is because I am a glutton for punishment
This movie starts off emotional and ends emotional and the ride in between is epic! Luckily I'm in the Netherlands so I could see it before and no actions here. This movie should be watched by all people no matter the color of their skin. Wakanda forever!
Predictable plot, has some nicely done jumpscares. Saw it in the cinema but this would be better at night home alone instead of the snickering fools in the cinemaroom destroying any carefully built tension so my advice is to wait for the Blu-Ray.
WTF?!? This was unoriginal badly acted movie. PLEASE DO NOT Waste your precious time watching this one.
Nice and over the top action movie. Love to see Chris Evans as a bad guy for once. Ryan Gosling solid as ever. Really awesome fight scenes. Turn off your brain and just enjoy the movie
I was born in 1980 so I never had the pleasure of seeing this great man alive. This movie is amazing and it made me think of bohemian rhapsody both actors really made you believe that they were that person. Being Dutch it was weird having Tom Hanks trying to speak a few dutch words which weren't good btw haha. Also brought a tear to my eye to hear a snippit of It's only love my all time favorite number of Elvis. Hopefully this movie will receive a best picture nomination! Elvis may have left the building but will forever be in our hearts!
Not the best movie from the series but still enjoyable. Especially seeing the old and new generation together is nice.
