The Fly
The Bloodettes

I don't feel that I have the knowledge or insight to fully understand and grasp this movie. There is so much significance in the culture I am not familiar with. Nevertheless, it doesn't make it less interesting and suspenseful. If anything, it kinda helped me to just dive into this dark and twisted future and just accept what I am seeing. I really liked those little questions during the movie, which served as some kind of small break.

My nescience did not help with those and their reality behind them, but I feel for me, it immersed me more and more into the story. So at least I could understand some context. Also, I have to give a huuuuge shoutout to the soundtrack; that was just amazing! Pared with those dreamy sequences and the overall gritty style, it created a very haunting movie that I am very glad I experienced. It's definitely worth descending into and I will for sure will watch it again.

Comment faire un film d'horreur dans un endroit où la mort est une fête?

The Dinosaur Project

First of all, let's agree, that we need more horror movies with dinosaurs. I was a bit hyped for this one, because the idea alone seemed worth watching. But it turned out not to be a real FF movie, it's more a mockumentary but feels just like a normal movie with shaky cam. At some point this turned into The Lion King, and it was more about family drama than actual dinosaurs. The effects weren't that bad, but overall it missed its target and was getting more boring to the end. That's sad. I feel it could have worked.

In Fabric

Eeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm...... I don't really know what to tell y'all. I have no idea. I guess it was about a haunted dress and some people which are got in contact with it. I kinda enjoyed it until I realized that this is some kind of anthology (not in the usual way). The music and the overall style were kinda beautiful, but the movie itself was very, very weird. But not it that kind of way I enjoy, more like what the actual fuck is happening here, what is this, what is that, why is he doing that why is she doing that .... why oh why ... and where, who and why is Gamora? I’m kinda baffled because I watch many movies and some of them are weird and complex and very much open to interpretation, but even after a long sleep I still have no clue.

Pantheon

That was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Still sobbing.

Aporia

Absolute wonderful! A heartwarming and -breaking story about grief, acceptance, consequence and awareness. And a compelling story about time travel in a unique, own way. Quiet and philosophic, but also very graspable.

1 Night

I mean, it was kinda sweet, but very obvious. I enjoyed half of the story and the end. I know what they wanted to achieve, but it was a bit too much on the nose. Still kinda wholesome.

Take Shelter

Absolutely amazing! I have been kinda in anxiety mode for the last couple of days, and this movie gave me the rest. But in a good way! Right from the beginning, there was something dark and strange to feel until the very last second. It grabbed me and slowly dragged me down with it. But there is also so much wholesomeness within the family that I felt this could only go right. I felt with Curtis and wanted everything to stop, too, because this slowly ride into some kind of madness didn't just drain him. Combined with the overall atmospheric tone and subtle use of music, this movie just mesmerized me. Everyone is doing a fantastic job bringing everything into perspective, and I needed some time to actually calm down a little. Even though I don't really know what to do with the ending, I loved this movie and had a stressful yet wonderful time watching it.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

Good action, cool twists, great cast, sometimes dumb, but sometimes surprisingly deep. I even cried a lil at the end. Much more fun than anticipated. Makes me even hyped a bit for the next movie.

The Beyond

Yikes, this was very nasty and mean. I had no idea it will be so gross sometimes. Someone definitely wanted to trigger some phobias in this one. It caught be off guard, and this old, strange movie made me feel very uncomfortable. But between those scenes it's kinda a dreamy and atmospheric horror movie. The music was not always on point but contributed to the overall anxiety. I have to admit, that the second half almost lost me, it got a little bit hard to follow what was the actual problem now until it kinda revealed itself, very anticlimactic. The ending though was very poetic and together with the nasty horror elements this movie definitely deserved some extra credit. I guess I was a little bit overhyped, but still had a good time.

Jacob's Ladder

Wow, what a movie. I was really prepared for anything but this. A confusing game of light drama and dark thriller. Even if the film can be watched calmly at times, you are always pulled back into reality and confronted with scary and oppressive moments. Tim Robbins plays his role excellently and manages to maintain a solid facade that only one self can break through. I love it when films don't hand everything to the viewer on a silver platter. Here you have to decide for yourself what is true and what is not and what that means for you. Even though I wouldn't necessarily classify the film as a typical horror film, the subject is of course more than real and disturbing. In any case, the film gives you a lot to think about and definitely needs to be watched more often to be able to grasp the whole thing. A great and important movie.
