National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Merry Christmas. Shitter was full.

The Big Lebowski

"That rug really tied the room together."

I got the chance to see my all time favorite movie on the big screen and that is the way to see it. It was a crowded theater full of people (one was even dressed like Maude in Gutterballs) who love the movie and knew all the jokes that were coming but still laughed hard at them. Out of the countless times I've seen this, this was my favorite time. Infinitely quotable and never dull... the Dude abides.

"Am I wrong?"

Home Alone

A Christmas classic. As a kid I always thought of this movie as mostly the booby trapped house but its only like the last quarter of the movie.

I wonder if that mac n cheese was any good?

Bad Santa

Nothing gets me in the Christmas spirit like some Bad Santa. Billy Bob Thornton is the best santa we have ever seen in movies. Well maybe the best mall santa.

"Put that cookie down. NOW!"

That is Arnold Schwarzenegger's best line ever.

La La Land

"People love what other people are passionate about."

It is just incredible how just watching a movie can improve my mood 100 times. The soundtrack is phenomenal and seeing it with the dances makes it so much better. The ending is still very emotional even on a fourth viewing.

As i'm watching this for a third time my attention goes to the use of color in this movie. The three primary colors, red, blue and yellow. How blue is for Mia, red is for Sebastian and yellow is for change. The use of purple for the skyline show how well the two blend together. Green for how Mia changes and orange for how Sebastian changes. This a spectacular movie that Damien Chazelle directs perfectly and I cannot wait to see his next. The soundtrack is great and I still listen to it. 10/10 and one of my all time favorites.

Not as good as the first but still a great holiday film.

Die Hard

Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? Definitely!

Is it the best Christmas movie? The best non-traditional Christmas movie.

It isn't Christmas until I see the Hans drop.

A yearly must watch. Nothing else puts me in the the Christmas spirit quite like Die Hard.

Life's a garden...Dig it!

Seriously one of my all time favorite movies. A huge guilty pleasure movie. I know it’s not the best but it never gets old.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Best in the trilogy and one of, if not the, best trilogy ever. Everything about this final chapter is epic. The riders of Rohan riding into battle still gives me goosebumps.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

"The battle of Helm's Deep is over; the battle for Middle-earth is about to begin."

This is the weakest one in the trilogy, but still an amazing movie. This is more of a set up for the Return of the King and lets be honest who is watching this and not going to watch RotK next. It still has some spectacular action, Helm's deep still is one of the best action scenes in cinema. The pacing is a little off, can be a little too slow in the first half.

"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."

Such a well made film. The beautiful shots to the perfect score to the fantastic acting. This is the beginning of the best trilogy of movies ever made.

The annual rewatch has begun.

You ever just rewatch a movie and remember why you love it?

The Santa Clause

A fun Christmas movie. I try to watch it every holiday season.

The Night Before

A very underrated comedy with a lot of humor and a good message. You might think this is just another typical stoner comedy and while it has those jokes it also has a strong message about friendship and the loss of family. James Franco and Miley Cyrus' cameos are both fantastic too. This should be a yearly watch for the holidays.

Avengers: Infinity War

Wow the Russos actually did it. I can't believe this movie works as well as it does. The movie just breezed by, there is so much going on and it is paced so well. The action is great and the stakes are real. Thanos's plan is a dumb one but they do make him a well rounded character and he is one of the few villains to actually pull it off. There is a ton of humor but it also manages to be really emotional at times. It is going to be a long year but at least we get to see Captain Marvel in between.

EDIT: After seeing it again it still is amazing how well everything works. This is probably the darkest MCU movie so far but still is fun and has a ton of one liners. The humor is still fantastic and on GotG level. I just realized that it is the original Avengers team that is left to start Avengers 4. I expect most everyone that turned to ash to come back but not without sacrificing the original team.

The Dark Knight

I've saw this countless times in high school but haven't seen this in a few years. I'm extremely happy that it holds up tremendously well. This is just a non stop action ride. Heath Ledger's Joker is absolutely mesmerizing everytime he is on screen. The 4k blu ray with the full screen action screen are breathtaking. Truly one of the best movies ever.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Not quite as charming as homecoming but still a super fun movie. Tom Holland is the perfect Spider-Man. He has a great arc with all the recent events of the MCU. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a great Mysterio. The effects look fantastic. Lots of good humor and action. Not as much high school drama but there still is some. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Spider-Man in the MCU with the mid credit stinger.

Star Wars

The one that started it all. This movie has one of the biggest impacts on the movie industry ever, iconic is an understatement. Is it the best one, probably not but it is right there with The Empire Strikes Back.

RIP Carrie Fisher. You were a lot of people's first crush.

I liked this movie more than I remembered. Maybe it is because I am watching them in chronological order in preparation for The Last Jedi and coming off the prequels but I think this movie works well. Decent action with new exotic terrain is a lot of fun. The sacrifice made by all the characters was somewhat emotional, could of been more with a little more character development. I really liked Ben Mendelsohn's Krennic. He is just a middle management guy trying to get credit for his project. Mads is great as always. K-2SO's sassy dialogue made for some funny moments. And of course Vader's scene was awesome but it felt like they had to put some lightsabers in this movie.

Some things that didn't work for me were everything with Saw Gerrera. I just think Forest Whitaker over played him. The CGI faces aren't terrible but they aren't good. It's more of a distraction than anything. They should of just kept Tarkin in reflections only or recast. The music didn't feel right. It felt like it was trying too hard to be different. This is still Star Wars and music is a very important part of this franchise.

I love what Taika Waititi was able to do with a big blockbuster. It's so much fun and hilarious. I love all our heroes and all the new characters. Korg (voiced by Taika Waititi) was my favorite new character. Thor vs Hulk was fun and the whole planet Hulk subplot was way more entertaining than the Asgard story line. Hela didn't break the streak of boring Marvel villains but I thought Cate Blanchett still did good work with what she had. I really liked that it tied into the MCU with a (short) cameo by Dr. Strange and what looks to be Thanos's ship. Also that quick shot of the infinity gauntlet. Still missing one infinity stone, looking at you Heimdall. How much Korg are we going the get in Infinity War? Not enough!

Thor is going to be an interesting character going into infinity war. One eye, no hammer, and possibly captured by Thanos?

I still can't believe Matt Damon was in this.

I can't hear Immigrant Song without thinking of this movie and smiling.

Great classic horror. Simple but effective. The score is really well done and sets the tone perfectly. You don't know much about Michael Myers and that kinda makes him even more scary.

Watching this for the new one coming out and it still is great. There are some great shots of seeing Michael for a second that are really scary. You don't know if he is really there or if you're seeing things. There are some great pov shots, including the oner to open the movie. Again the score is really good. That main theme is so iconic and instantly recognizable.

The Shining

This is one of Stanley Kubrick's best films. A true horror movie without having to rely on jump scares or gimmicks. The score is truly unsettling and with the cuts of disturbing imagery it builds tension well. Jack Nicholson gives the performance of his career here. The Overlook Hotel is so unique. The attention to detail and production design is flawless.

"As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster."

Since the 27th anniversary was earlier this week and the recent passing of Frank Vincent I wanted to revisit this masterpiece. What a brilliant film. Everything is excellent, from the acting to the camera work to the soundtrack, this is one of the very best movies of all times. Martin Scorsese is at the top of his game. This is the definitive gangster movie and in my mind it will never be passed.

"Never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut." Unless they are trying to kill you...

Nobody could of played the Grinch better than Jim Carrey. He brings so much energy. I never realized that it was Anthony Hopkins that was the narrator. He has a perfect narrator voice. The Grinch love story is a little weird.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

This movie has a lot of good and bad. I saw this when I was a kid and I had the vhs so I watched this countless times.

Good: Qui-Gon Jinn, I would of loved to see Liam Neeson play him again and try and become a grey jedi. The last lightsaber battle, still one of the best in the series. Darth Maul, he may not have much of a back story but he still is a bad ass villain. Pod racing, its fun and I enjoyed the scene.

Bad: Obviously Jar Jar and all the gungans, man I forgot how annoying he is. Bad CGI, it is a little forgivable for the time but it doesn't hold up well. Pacing, it can be a boring at times and the editing can take away from the better scenes.

Overall a decent intro to the series, I wouldn't show this first to someone who has never seen Star Wars, start with A New Hope.
