Why are you reading this if you haven't seen the episode? Get outta here ya nut!!!!
Ahhh yes, .. nothing like a bit of primo Valdez Rocks Snakeroot Kush, chased with an outstanding Picard 80's Merlot to get the juices, ...and the episode, going. Well, now we understand why Raffi is so pissed at "J.L.", but, I suspect it is not so much at her loss of stature and livelihood, as it was how quickly and thoroughly he seemingly abandoned her after shooting himself in both feet by playing the usually reliable Picard "my way or I'll take my ball and go home" card. Must have been rather shocking to finally get the "don't let the turbo lift door hit you in the azz on the way out" reply, so unexpectedly. In his own way, he was drowning his sorrows just as she was, but, he was MAKING the wine rather than self medicating with it.
So then, were Daj and Soji yin and yang like Data and Lore? And a more troubling query would seem to be, is Momma Asher now on the wrong side of the Terra Firma, simply ignorant of recent events, a holographic projection, or a clone of Dr Funkenstein? Inquiring minds want to know. And just what is that voodoo that Ramdah doo's so well?
OK, we already know that dermal regenerators can fix up an injury better than Dr's Nassif and Dubrow in our timeline. So why then do Hugh and the other reclaimed former drones still have facial scarring. Is it a badge of honor, like a dueling scar, or, a warning, to others like a scarlet "B"?
Here's a suggestion for the Romulan hit squads. On future assignments, forget beaming in with an entire crew, going CQB and H2H, only to miss the target, get murked by inferior numbers, but superier skills, and then assisting them in building their arsenal. (as if J.L. and Co needed any help in that department it seems) Next time just beam in a solitary suicide mercenary and have him activate the green "screw you juice" and eliminate both the target and the evidence. Just sayin!
Damn! Commodore Oh went all in with a full house and ran head on into a four of a kind monkey stomp! Guess the "cat's outa' the bag" now.
I though that Dr Jurati might be "compromised" at first, then not, then.... could it all have been a set up? Back burner for now, after her intro to Raffi. Her enthusiasm felt too genuine.
Picard giving Christobal respect by not taking the big chair, and him giving Picard props by waiting for his signature command,...., then Raffi's nonplussed reaction. Priceless!
Great episode overall.....
THIS is how you slowly build up your characters and world to a satisfying payoff. If you have an entire episode that takes place outside of the main universe and put all the main characters into completely different roles yet still manages to retain the core of the show and give viewers enough familiarity to hold onto, then you really do know how to write. Even if the series ends here, what a brilliant, intelligent, and enjoyable adventure The Orville is. Anyone still out there who looks at this show and thinks "Family Guy in space" is in crippling denial. This show is reaching Stargate levels of storytelling and character development now. What started as a chance foot in the door, to get the fleeting chance to stand in the shadows of science fiction giants has evolved into something that actually has the potential to be one of those giants some day.
For this episode in particular, what a delightful blend of TOS movie and Star Wars musical cues, the new ships and places that are a departure from the typical Union aesthetic, and the very best special effects I've seen on this show so far. Effects that are very detailed and eye-popping while still allowing everything to be well-lit and easy to follow. A very bold and dramatic way to cap off a season, especially the second season, and a very enigmatic ending that deliberately left threads hanging while still being satisfying and positive.
THIS show is the hopeful vision of the future we need right now. Not something that just reflects back what we currently are (because, let's face it, what we currently are is embarrassing), but one that shows up what we could be if we could stop resenting ourselves and each other for five freaking minutes. We'll always have our precious mistakes, our warts, our weirdness, but it's wrong to let those things define us. In the past, this kind of love and awareness came from a different show. A show that has sadly decided to move away from the wisdom of the human adventure. Now, thankfully, it's coming from this one. Hopefully, for a long time to come.
Okay... once again... why have discussions in the middle of a major crisis? Burnham is the captain, she issues orders, even the president of the UFP can't change that as she's not in the chain of command. The only thing those discussions do is show that Burnham is weak at making decisions and giving hard orders. She's the captain, not the chaperon of some boy/girlscout-summerholidays. Leadership's needed here.
Why is communication with 10-c suddenly so easy that it conveys complex ideas? Last time it was about simple maths-equations... And quite frankly, all moralistic shame-on-you-you've-killed-so-many-people-albeit-inadvertantly speeches aside, why can't 10-c articulate their reasons for the DMAs? I mean, it's all good and well that they realized that what they did had consequences on other species, but the whole thing comes across as incredibly patronizing.
I liked the way Book's erstwhile "death" was shown, Burnham taking a moment, then collecting herself and move on... but honestly, did anyone think he was really dead? Other than the message via the chief engineer there was no contact... and if we know anything about Discovery, it's that they LOVE to talk about feelings. So of course, Book had to be alive and returned to Burnham. And of course, he gets to deliver his moralistic speech... mind you, without his actions, the first dma wouldn't have been destroyed, which brought about the creation of the second dma that threatened Earth etc. And now he works at some kind of help centre for those affected by this second dma. Yeah... what a punishment.
Of course, Tilly had to return - hopefully for the last time. I'd rather have seen more of the evacuation efforts and less of Tilly and the admiral waiting around, drinking whisky.
The less said about Saru and the Vulcan president, the better. (And BTW, how can she even contact 10-c telepathically through windows? I thought Vulcans needed direct physical contact (i.e. touch) for telepathy.) But at least, we got some handholding... what are they, teenagers?
Unless I radically change my mind, this will be the last season I followed of Discovery. Sorry, I like some of the ideas, but the characterization, the soap-opera-ish quality, all the dramatic whispering are infinitely more annoying than the appeal of those ideas.
9/10 I loved this ep, realistically it may be an 8, but based on my personal enjoyment I truly loved it. Firstly, the return to earth was great and it was great to see remnants of earth (polis, the bunker) it was nice. I have also had time to think about bellamys death and these are my thoughts. At first I was annoyed, However upon thinking about it the 100 is a ballsy show and always has been and his willing to go dark places shows never have. This is a show about survival, and what we are willing to do to survive and also protect the ones we love. This is the 100. I'm sad Bellamy did not get to say goodbye to Octavia or echo or Jordan. But that's realism in this post apocalyptic world not every story ends perfectly in a neat and tight bow, in real life you dont always get to say goodbye to loved ones before they pass. Look at Jasper for example. In life you don't always get to have some long goodbye to your loved ones before you pass. It's just how it is. I 100% agree with Clarke's motivations, though the execution was not the best. You can love characters all you want I love characters, but lets not forget this show is about what we do to survive and protect our loved ones whether it is perfect or not. Anyways back to the ep. Seeing seeing certain Easter eggs was nice and also judging by the greenery the theory that its been 1000 years since they have been to earth (125 in sanctum years, time dilation) its starting to make sense. Clarke break down and the start and the way Octavia responded to the news of her brothers death was very interesting, cause she has Hope, she understands, what it takes and what you would do to save someone you love. What reaction surprised me was Echo's I expected her to rage and get annoyed at Clarke. but she was less annoyed, more fed up and tired of fighting she put some energy into trying to avenge bellamy and when he came back the way he was she was shocked. I think the episode portrayed that tired of fighting feel in regards to Echo very well. Regarding Echo, I really loved the scene when she was saying I wish I told bellamy my real name. it injected a bit of realism into this post apocalyptic world. As I was saying before, you have regrets you have things you wish you said to your love ones but its too late. I loved pretty much every scene miller and Jackson, hope and Jordan. Indra and Octavia and Gaia, I have loved seeing O and Indra's relationship develop over the whole show, its honestly been a pleasure to watch and we finally found out why Gaia is on earth and why she went there, interesting answer. Another scene I loved was the scene between Clarke and Madi, where she questions the decision Clarke has made saying not to bear it all for me. On one hand I understand like she does not want Clarke to bear the emotional weight because of her, but on the other hand Madi handing herself to cadogan kind of invalidates the death of Gabriel, just a bit, who died so she wouldn't go to cadogan. JR bourne again stealing the show as Sheidheda , great again this episode. One surprising thing for me this episode, was how much I loved Nialyah and how GREAT Jessica Harmon did in acting and directing. I loved her scenes where she was saying she was half Trikru, half Azgeada, and named after Queen Nia. some of the finest work she has done, such a great actress.
Line of the week: Murphy: "Where's the funky stone with green light"
Unfortunately we lost a great character my second favourite newcomer to the show, it was a bittersweet death, and I wish he stayed alive to see who made the stones( I think it was Allie 1.0 there is a whole theory out there) but I'm glad he got to see his home, Earth one last time before he passed it was kind of fitting and I loved it. I hope they don't bring him back via a mind drive just so he sees who made the stones, cause it was clear Gabriel was ready to go, and he would not want that. He fought for so long and it was his time. Yu Gonplei Ste oden Gabriel Kom eligus kru.
Yep, this episode was incredible. Best episode of the season by far. Loved almost every minute in it. Firstly, Becca is one of my favourite characters show, she is just incredible and this episode further propelled that. Erica Cerra is absolutely incredible as Becca and as A.L.L.I.E, she steals the show whenever she is on screen, she stole the show in 3x7(Thirteen) and she stole the show in 3x16 (Preserve instantiation part 2). Becca, Bill and Callie really made this backdoor pilot incredible. I was not too sure about Callie at first, but she is starting to grow on me and may be a great protagonist and I knew she was going to be the first Heir to Becca Pramheda, the second commander. I loved the Easter eggs we got around the show, The Trikru shirt that Callie's friend was wearing, the from the ashes poster, which is a common phrase used, the Your fight is over phrase, very very interesting stuff. I am also very interested by what Becca saw and why she needed to destroy the anomaly stone. Very curious. As mentioned very great episode, I wonder how long Bill was telling the story cause Octavia and echo look very brainwashed. Also, I want to know what happened to the Eligius mission to Bardo, did they settle on earth, did they join the mountain men, maybe I missed something, but I am curious.
