This is what happens you create a film for shock value. Flat characters, terrible acting, little plot. How a movie about cannibalism managed to be this dull is beyond me.
I don’t know what statement this movie was trying to make, if any, but I didn’t last long enough to find out.
A true time capsule of surfing culture in the early 1970’s, and in my view, the definitive surf film. Mellow and hypnotic, and you can feel the counter-culture vibe running through it. Try to watch this and not feel warm and happy inside afterwards.
Great premise, good opening and ending…but got a little bogged down in the middle. The cat and mouse game between John and Jim was great - I just wish there were more of it.
