Cobra Kai: 4x08 Party Time

Not in love with the return of the show's most annoying character and I don't really buy this Robbie and Tory romance dynamic, but key developments in other areas that really took me by surprise and makes up for that. Still my least fave ep of the season so far tho

Ted Lasso: 2x09 Beard After Hours

I know this is currently going down and will probably concretely go down as one of people's least fave episodes of Ted Lasso, but I still think much of this is fantastic.
My issue if anything is it's a longer episode than it needed to be. Even though I like these isolated single-character focussed episodes, I don't think such an episode needed to be near three quarters of an hour in length (for a comedy series espe, half an hour would have sufficed.
That aside, great exploration of Coach Beard, and I'm happier for getting an episode where we get to see Coach Beard front-and-centre.

It won't happen btw but my campaign for Gary Lineker and Thierry Henry to get guest actor in a comedy noms at the 2022 Emmys begins now.

Also, thought while I was doing one of my rare TV reviews that I'd say Bill Lawrence shows just have sensational soundtracks. Scrubs was fill to the brim with bangers, and Ted Lasso carries on that trend. Someone get Bill Lawrence on an ep of BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs!

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: 3x06 Kimmy Is a Feminist!

My rating would be even lower if Dylan Gelula wasn't in this episode by the way. The only actor in this entire episode who didn't bore and/or irritate me at least once. The writing wasn't good either imo except for the twist at the end that finished the episode.

The Great Indoors

This has a cast that could have made for something great but some of the worst writing and uninspired directing that comedy TV saw in the 2010s makes it all a waste. No complaints this only lasted 1 season.

Lucky: 1x01 Pilot

Corbett felt unconvincing as a lead here honestly but the writing is sharp and the directing makes it all the less surprising that the Russo Bros would go onto revolutionise comedy TV directing before they went onto become industry superstars working on the MCU.

Robinson and Gardell are decent supporting actors here too, it further goes to show how much of a shame it is that Gardell wasted his comedic acting peak on Mike & Molly. Chuck Lorre is a TV terrorist.

But yeah, I get why this show commercially flopped. That said, if they could have gotten a better lead actor... it could have been so different. For what it's worth, at least this ep got an Emmy nom!

Moonbase 8: 1x01 Dry

Like most Showtime comedies I've watched, I think it's going through growing pains at the start. I think it has potential to be a good first season but I think the Armisen x Heidecker x Reilly trio needs time to jel on screen.

Unfortunately, the first season is just 6 episodes, so the growing pains need to ease by the third episode if Moonbase 8 is going to have a good first season, and in a time where networks can only prioritise production on winning shows, Moonbase 8 needs to have a good first season to survive.

The Golden Girls: 4x16 Two Rode Together

Really wanted to give this a 9 for how much I enjoyed the a-plot, but alas, the b-plot didn't have the legs for me to commit to that. Still a great episode though, and another a-plot that exemplifies the Golden Girls' ability to tap into heartwarming themes.

The Golden Girls: 4x12 Blind Date

Golden Girls has the undeniably delightful blend of heartwarming stories and gut-busting punchlines, when it's on form at least. For my money, this episode was on-form.

The a-plot and b-plot exhibit both, but the a-plot is primarily the former and the b-plot is primarily the latter.
What was so good about the a-plot was that it was a brilliant character work for Blanche and the plot was a great device to deep dive. The topic of the plot was also handled greatly and written with tact, knowing that it's okay to make jokes as long as there isn't malice, and for me there was no malice towards blind people or blind people looking for love. It was just so brilliantly done.

What was so good about the b-plot was just how damn fun it was. The writing may not have been super intricate or elaborate, but the performances made it amazing and came with some sizzling lines. It is honestly one of my favourite b-plots I've come across so far this year because of that.

I think Golden Girls is an under-appreciated show these days, and I think this one of the more under-appreciated Golden Girls episode.
