Like the theme of this - it's getting people involved who wouldn't typically watch something on sustainability. Pretty decent execution too. Few cringe moments - Efron and Olien giving the kid a hard time for not knowing stuff was really awkward to watch.
I'm just gonna go ahead and rate this a 10 for that amazing opening scene. :)
OMFG!!!!! That intro alone deserves a 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The opening scene was amazing.
Best intro of the whole show! And Gina's Holt soundboard was dope, I want one of those! Get. Some. Get. Some.
"Backstreet Boys; I'm familiar." That was the best, omg.
Top 3 best cold opens EVER!
you are.... my fire
the one... desire
believe.... when I say
I want it that way!
An absolutely amazing finale, I love this show a lot and this was a well-rounded, funny yet exciting and interesting new episode.
Michael is truly unbelievable sometimes, like the amount of patience you need for that guy lol...
Pam is annoying, she is so ungrateful to Micheal after all he's done for her (making her a salesperson, he was the only one who visited his art). Jim is kind of an asshole too they kind of both are looking down on Micheal like they were better than him or sth.
Trivia
+Near the end, Stanley delivers a soliloquy about losing seven pounds and then bows his head and raises his right fist. This scene is a homage to two black American sprinters, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, who won gold and bronze medals in the 1968 Olympics. They generated controversy by raising their fists while on the medal stand as the national anthem was being played.
+We find out Pam's weight in this episode. According to the scale calculations, the entire team weighed 2,336 lbs when Pam was on the scale and 2,210 lbs when she got off. So Pam weighs 126 lbs.
+When Jim visits Pam at her Residential Advisor room, Jim misdirects the cameraman away and closes the door. This is the only time where you hear the "documentary" camera crew, namely a sigh.
+Holly's real first name is Hollis.
+When Holly is shown at her desk, right before she finds Kelly making her juice, you can see her name plate revealing her real first name to be Hollis.
+There is a point where Jim is talking about having to spend his lunch with different people while Pam is away, during this time Michael is shown without a goatee, which he has had the entire episode because Ryan has one. Michael is shown afterwards leading a meeting with his goatee still there.
+It is revealed via Holly's whiteboard that the remaining Dunder Mifflin branches in operation are: 1) Scranton, PA; 2) Nashua, NH; 3) Camden, NJ; 4) Utica, NY; 5) Buffalo, NY; 6) Albany, NY; 7) Yonkers, NY; 8) New York City Corporate Center.
+As Pam is running over to Jim at the gas station, she comments that "Montclair would have been closer" (as in, to meet halfway). Montclair is a real city in northern New Jersey popular for its arts centers and restaurants.
Goofs
Continuity
+Michael's goatee disappears in a lunchroom scene and returns for a weigh in. He later shaves it off.
+Pam comments to Jim at the gas station that: "Montclair would have been closer, so you have to buy lunch". This is untrue. Montclair, NJ, is 1 hour/ 50 minutes away from Scranton, PA (Jim) - but only 55 minutes from midtown Manhattan (Pam). That is not at all halfway between the two locations. Newton, NJ, would have been a better compromise.
Spoilers
Jenna Fischer actually kept the engagement ring that her future husband, Jim, gave to her in this episode. She has been seen wearing it sometimes in public and in interviews.
I laughed so hard at Kevin scenes lollll, Great weird ending for the season tho
I always wondered why Toby just doesn't leave! Welp, Costa Rica is probably as good as anyplace for him.
rip toby everyone was so mean to him and for what
Harvey doesn't deserve Mike anymore. He should've lost him, at least for a couple episodes. I know Mike loves him too much, but he deserved to be treated better and he should've stood up for himself. I love first season Harvey, but I don't like his character's evolution through the episodes and I think he could've used a little understanding of how he'll eventually end up lonely if he keeps behaving like this.
Poor Louis ): I felt so bad for him. The look on his face was painful..
I've been feeling bad for him a lot actually ever since he turned his back on Hardman, but this one was too much..
He really is a good person, he just does stupid stuff sometimes.
That ending was so sad what the hell. I would've loved to see Mike and Louis work together
"I don't think I feel that emotion"
"Very often, Michael, when children are bullied by a parent, they falsely learn that emotions are a sign of vulnerability, and so they shut them off"
that hits hard..
- Ah, the first time a son/daughter is mature enough to call their parents out on their flaws, well done Otis
- That Nigerian accent is really testing my English comprehension tonight, as a foreigner as well lol
- Mmm that photographer is not saying it all, careful Eric...
- Here he is - Michael/Anton Ego
- Phew
- No Eric, come on, poor Adam
What is up with teen dramas and cheating? First Maeve, now Eric. Also the fact that a 17 year old went gallivanting around a strange city with an adult he just met is messed up. I know they didn't hook up, but the fact that the show made us think for a minute there that they did is gross. Like, sir, that is a literal minor, please go to jail.
The headmistress is evil evil. What she did to Adam, Lily and Cal was horrible. The students need to riot right now and get her removed.
Loved the simple moment of Adam's dad recreating the joy he felt cooking with his mom as a child. Very touching scene.
Come on, Eric cheating on Adam was so unnecessary.
They're still trying to make their relationship work and this whole season just showed all the effort Adam puts into it (improving his grades, writing poetry, having open conversations, managing his anger issues). Meanwhile Eric gets upset when Adam doesn't want sex or when he's worried about Eric in Nigeria? And now Eric cheats on him? I'm all for multi-dimensional characters, but would be great to see some effort or good side of Eric in this season.
The most ridiculous bus trip yet.
I would have been so disappointed in Otis if he’d been dishonest. This is great. But I find that at least 90% of the main characters left this episode confused.
I know the teachers are supposed to be a little bit incompetent for comedic purposes, but how do you mistake two whole ass adults for a couple of teenagers? And what were those German tourists doing getting on a strange bus anyway?
I'm amused that Emma Mackey, a native French speaker, had to pretend she didn't know a lick of French in this episode.
The Kiss finally happened and when I tell you I screamed... But, of course, it's a shame that Maeve basically cheated on Isaac. That kind of ruined the moment a little bit.
I mean, I know the characters of maeve and otis were written with the idea of them being together by the end already planned, but given how the past season and episodes developed, I wish they used the excuse of them being stuck together at a gas station for the sole purpose of them realising their relationship is way too rotten by now to make it work and they should embrace the partners they had now.
The award for the most unexpectedly sweet moment of the season goes to Olivia and Anwar rushing to Ruby's side when she was hurting. Their friendship sometimes seems really superficial, but they truly do care about each other. I love that.
I'm still not on board with Maeve and Isaac, but I liked that their scene together showed a different kind of intimacy. It wasn't the usual graphic sex stuff, and it felt appropriate for the moment and for the characters.
