At times, this feels like Ridley Scott in top form, directing sweeping, epic historical battles. At times, it feels like an absurdist black comedy à la The Great. (My entire theater lost it at "You think you're so great because you have BOATS!") But most of the time, it feels like an entire season of television hopelessly compressed into 2.5 hours. As a result, I understood little and cared even less.
Maybe the 4-hour cut will be better, but I doubt it. The sheer number of things it touches on - characters, political maneuvers, relationships, battles - seems like it would take 10 hours to cover properly.
"Destiny has brought me here. Destiny has brought me this lamb chop!"
If you like watch the other action movies that Jason Statham is in you'll probably like this one. He is in his prime. After a friend kills herself he basically kills his way to the top for the remainder of the movie. Some of his methods for getting rid of bad guys were pretty dang awesome and involved some methods I've never seen before. Which was cool.
Was it completely unrealistic? Yes. Was it fun to sit back, munch on some popcorn and watch Statham do his thing? Oh hell yeah
why are the homosexuals? Why? Who was clamoring for this?
There really is nothing more insufferable than the "it wasnt the same as the book" nerds. This movie, in fact both movies, made by Bourboulon are modern day epics. Two of the best movies in the last decade, and certainly better than 99% of the garbage from Hollywood. I really hope this same team makes a third movie, or can at least adapt another one of Dumas's musketeer novels. We deserve good things like this.
The fights and battle scenes were nice. However, the romance scenes were really cringe (that it was actually almost uncomfortable to watch) - was Napoleon really like this or are they exaggerating it?
The performance of Phoenix was really weird when he was talking about fighting at the Toulon port, was really monotoned for some reason but his voice acting got better as the show went on.
"Woke for all, and all for woke" should be the tagline. Why oh why do they persist in re-wokeing the classics?
I lost interest in TWD a season after Rick Grimes died. This spin isn't a breath of fresh air, but I did enjoy it for what it is and wouldn't mind watching it. I think they should keep it as a mini-series with 6 episodes.
First movie that show a different side of events than mainstream media do. Sure it did not happen like in movie, but albanians were and always will be just a usa pupets that are currently occupying holy Serbian land. By the way, a littke.known fact is that one British general was given order to shoot at Russian's on Slatina airport, but he declined with words: I don't want to be the man who started ww3.
Finally a movie which tells the story from the other side.
