I'm only one episode in and typically I try not to judge a series before I've watched a number of episodes first. However, if the rest of this series is as good as the first episode, I think it's going to be a hell of a ride. Sam Esmail of Mr. Robot fame puts together some very interesting shots and there is lots of creative lens use, as well. In fact, the entire production team has done a fantastic job creating an atmosphere that helps to create the ongoing, brooding tension in this psych thriller. The cast's performances are all solid, but I was especially impressed with Stephan James' work. Bonus points in my book for an admirable long shot about 7:45 minutes in which is composed of two tracking shots with a pretty seamless hidden cut. Very much looking forward to the rest of the series.
This left the most sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. The first reveal is probably the most horrifying thing the show has done (and this is a show that made an episode about a snuff film).
:(
Amazing episode. true horror, tear pulling ending.
So... this episode is the San Junipero of this season?
I don't think I breathed once during the entire episode. I'm not okay. This was not okay.
Another nice episode.
I really liked the idea of it (getting blackmailed and not knowing what your blackmailer actually wants) and the plot twist at the end was great! I honestly didn't expect that. By now I'm used to paying attention and I usually have a lot of theories and try to find subtle clues, but somehow I didn't see that one coming. I was so naive and thought the main character was really just masturbating. I just started to get skeptical when he even agreed to rob a bank, but I still couldn't figure out what's exactly going on.
By the way, if you rewatch the beginning you might notice the scene with the little girl which seems creepy in retrospect. But at that point I really thought it was to show that he's just a nice young guy.
Well done. Another plot twist I haven't seen coming like that. And of course the acting was incredible again :)
Fuck me, 30 minutes in and I was ready for the episode to end. Not because it was bad, but because it was painful to watch. Then finally at almost 50 minutes, I could stand it again, haha. At least the ending made me laugh! I loved that truck driver lady though. She was cool.
Out of all of the episodes of Black Mirror that I've seen, this one seemed to have the happiest ending. Which is weird because her life is pretty much ruined as far as her score goes and who knows what happens to people who have that low of a rating, but seeing Lacie finally be able to let loose and say what she wants and just be herself was amazing. Great start to the new season!
Loved this episode. The final scene should've been cut though.
