They wanted rings and thrones and got shadow and bones
I REALLY wanted to like this but this just isnt Bill & Ted. I think its been too long and it has lost its nostalgia in a modern movie. Sorry dudes
I have been enamored of the story of Oak Island since I was a kid. If I were Rick Lagina and I had a rich brother I might have gone and tried to convince him to go treasure hunting too. The story is there. It's interesting. So where does this show fall short? Prometheus Entertainment and it's owner (and also creator of this show) Ken Burns. Great concept. Poor execution.
Let's face it. 5 seasons all of this could have been condensed into one or maybe two seasons. It has the typical Grade B television series conventions. The constant repeating and rehashing of content, again and again, to lengthen the show. The obviously dramatic attempts at editing and music to make mundane moments seem much more important than they actually are. The use of weak tie-ins to connect the materials they find with each other and to "possible" historic events, some of which may be a stretch,
But as long as there is a glimmer of possibility Prometheus will take that plunge simply to make you keep watching.....
What they are doing is cool, no doubt. There is something there, no doubt. There are many mysteries there to be solved and I do applaud Rick and Marty Lagina for going for it. That is the story behind the show and it deserves to be told. Maybe in a single hour special or multiple ones. But six seasons? No.
This show is made in post. The editors who piece together this pablum and spit it out into some semblance of show to make it into some form of entertainment deserves the credit and raises.
However, as a viewer, this is the equivalent of watching two guys drive to their local convenience store every day, but a shitload of lottery tickets, bring it back to their kitchen table where their friends are sitting, watch them scratch them off, get really, really excited when they win a dollar and really disappointed when they win nothing.... and then repeat the entire thing the next.day.
Now if they could only squeeze content from their other show, Ancient Aliens in there somehow, maybe it would be more interesting. Ancient Aliens on Oak Island!
One last comment. Where, exactly, did the legend that 7 people have to die to find the Oak Island treasure? Never read that anywhere.
I love this show. These guys have so much drive and integrity. I hope something great happens while Dan Blankenship is still on this Earth to see it.
This man was given a platform by Joe Rogan. The proof that freedom of speech matters. Good serie with a lot lot evidence show. Make of it what you will. Very interesting.
I absolutely love this show I don't know how I ever missed it before season 5 came out. If depicted correctly it's interesting to see how the schools are set up and run in Denmark. Having someone irreverent like me speaking before thinking and teaching these kids is very fun to watch. The chemistry between the actors is wonderful the acting is great and it's just an all-around fun show to watch I've been binging it for days and can't get enough if you're not watching the show.. what are you doing with your life? Call in sick for the next 5 days and watch it! Now!
Horrible show. Trying to pass off Jessica Chobot as an expert on anything but the latest video game news is a stretch.
Creepy and the characters aren't annoying, screaming teenagers. Its documentarian flavor helps it stand out from the crowd. It's short, which is fine but the world would be a better place if we could get more of that delicious third act.
there is new episodes and it is not showing on here
have to agree with most of the other reviews, the wit and wonder of the 4 panel comics just hasn't translated well to a half hour 'live' format - coming to it completely fresh might be best, as fans will only be let down
My biggest gripe with this show is the dialogue sounds nothing like what I think many people hear in their head as they're reading the comics. There's the basic, don't pair what you read with what you watch thing, but the comic is the sum of very few parts. You might reimagine Marvel in a dozen ways, but if you kick out one or two of the 3 pillars of what constitutes the comic identity, you just have its skin. The voices are human and dialogue...human. They don't have the Strange Planet or "being" identity. It's obviously not plot driven, so what exactly are we trying to do here? The joke is the ironic observation and alien turns of phrase. Where is that beyond some sprinkled here and there?
Sound nice, but it will be a true sequel or a bullshit reboot ??

The newest version of Destination Truth or Fact or Faked but missing that something that just made those shows work a bit better. That said, watched both seasons. Maybe for background or a completist.
And what kind of doctor wears her hair down during an autopsy?!?
