Just watched the pilot and I gotta be honest, this is the best pilot of any serie I have ever watched. Can't wait for future episodes.
A very disappointing season for one of my all-time favorite shows. Perhaps TJ Miller was the glue that held it all together, as without him this show just doesn't have its usual magic and good flavor.
I don't like how Bea is putting pressure on Leo because he "has somewhere to be". Grow some adult pairs. People have to be some plac,e some time. And he does have a family... it's like that never occurred to her. Them making it about how he's "a dabbler" or not... ok fine, but then it's really immature to expect he give up his other life and not have responsibilities.
I guess at some point in the future Bea will find out who he really is, and then it'll be a big problem for her, I'm almost sure of it.
Most inaccurate depiction of victorian era London: clean streets
Also... where did the obnoxious techno music go? Suddenly the score changed into something more fitting. So far into the episode anyway.
I think Tom Hanks ought to be seriously considered as one of (if not the) greatest actors of his generation. Just unbelievable.
A love letter to Big Dumb Object genre novels. I haven't read this specific book, but it's reminiscent of David Brin's work. It feels like how a faithful novel adaption would be, possibly to its detriment. There's exposition dumps and flashbacks aplenty, but I'm an exposition kind of person. The script feels a little unfocused, almost like Gravity and San Andreas got combined into a single movie. But it came out to be an almost perfect emulation of a Western style 00's disaster thriller.
I hope this production crew is assigned Three Body Problem and rescues it from development hell, since they're now experts at working with Cixin Liu material.
Let women run things! That will limit the game of politics and the conniving and the backstabbing! Or maybe it won't. I'm not much for period pieces (go ahead, make your joke), but this movie has a different energy from most and it elevates the subject matter to me. The crazy wide angle lenses and the camera whips pair a more modern style with the down and dirty look at the power struggle between the three main leads. They fight over power, love and survival and it is a fun watch. It didn't quite hold my attention the full 2 hours, but I completely understand why the movie is getting the hype. Olivia Colman is especially good as Queen Anne as a great reminder that just because someone has a position of power doesn't mean they don't constantly act like a child. Come for the queer love triangle but in the end the main lesson is be careful what you wish for...
So so good...
And double the episodes of the previous two seasons. All projections into a very possible, and often frightening, near future. One even has, imo, a happy ending. That's not something you would have gotten with only three episodes...
