I am no cinematic expert and I'm a pretty entry-level weeb, but here's my totally arbitrary ranking system:
My biased grading scale:
10 - One of my absolute favorites.
I could gush about this constantly. This could be a comfort media for me.
I know its flaws, and I don't even care, it's a part of my being.
9 - I loved this, and I want to rewatch this many times before I die.
In fact, just adding it to my list or hearing about makes me want to drop my entire backlog and rewatch it.
If I just watched it and rated it, I probably want to turn right back around and rewatch it now.
8 - I really enjoyed this.
As good as 7, but I definitely want to rewatch this at least once or twice before I die.
When I think about this, I know I want to rewatch it soon (even if I know that won't happen).
7 - I enjoyed this.
If I had glaring complaints, I don't really remember them enough to ruin the show.
As good as 8, but I wouldn't rewatch this in its entirety, I'd probably just look up some of my favorite clips.
That, or when I think about this I think that I would rewatch it if someone else wanted to watch it with me.
6 - I liked this, but it's not even close to any of my favorites.
I'd recommend it to people, but I'm not gonna rewatch it anytime soon.
There were some pretty good parts though, and I'll probably revisit those parts on Youtube, or it's just something I enjoyed once.
5 - I got through this.
I wouldn't recommend it unless I know it's your jam, and I definitely won't rewatch it.
I was frequently bored or I can remember recurring complaints.
This may not be bad, but it's definitely not my cup of tea.
4 - I barely got through this.
I finished this and thought, "well, I kinda wish I just rewatched a 7."
3 - I dropped this or I wish I did.
This is not worth any more of my time.
This is either real bad or really, really not my cup of coffee (I don't even like coffee).
2 - I hate that I even tried this.
I could not finish this. I don't even know why I'm ranking this.
1 - WTF.
I'd rather watch Dragonball Evolution, Shymalan's The Last Airbender, or water drip from my faucet.
Specific episode ratings break this convention slightly.
How much I want to rewatch an individual episode doesn't affect its score nearly as much, since I consider each episode a part of a greater whole (the season).
Also, filler doesn't automatically mean bad for me; I love filler!
Here's the rankings for episodes:
10 - One of my favorite episodes of anything I've ever watched.
I want to rewatch this episode over and over again, even if I don't rewatch the whole series.
9 - One of my favorite episodes of the season/series.
If I made a list of must-see episodes on a rewatch of a show, this e pisode is one of the easiest decicions to go on that list.
Hell, I'll probably go back and watch just this episode a few times because of how much I liked it.
8 - This was a dope episode.
This episode does some neat stuff, has some jaw-dropping reveals, amazing character development, an awesome fight scene, or just something I really liked.
Definitely a must-see episode.
7 - This was a good episode.
I definitely wasn't bored the whole way, but it's not making the list of must-see episodes. I might bring it up because I was surprised at it trying something new that I liked, or I liked big chunks of the episode while not liking others.
6 - This was okay.
It was integral to the plot or helps support other, better episodes, but I'd rather just see it summarized in a "last time on."
5 - I don't regret watching it for the first time, but i wouldn't watch it again.
It's not integral to the plot, it doesn't support better episodes, and I don't feel like I would've missed anything by skipping this episode.
In a comedy, this might mean I laughed like, ONCE.
3 - This was boring.
Even if it was integral to the plot, I was bored.
I don't care for this episode, and I probably pulled out my phone to play an equally mind-numbing game.
I probably tried to rewatch this episode after a nap or something before saying it was this bad (if it's recommended to me).
2 - This was a weak episode.
This season could have easily gone without this episode.
I didn't feel like it improved the show at all, and I actually think it kind of made it worse.
1 - I hate that I watched this episode.
If I recommend this show, I'll specifically tell people who have similar tastes to just skip this episode.
This is also reserved for rape scenes, which I kind hate adding to this About Me.
