such a quick show to watch, and so worth it. I think i speak for everyone when i say sister michael is the best character.
So far I think the show is very good. I feel like I am watching an updated version of Skins (UK) for 2019. Is that a bad thing? No. I think this show has its own stories to tell, but with similar themes. Labrinth's musical direction and original works are superb. I am going to continue watching.
Whether you like or dislike this movie, the ridiculously unrealistic portrayal of the CIA, tropes or uncomfortable situations, there is one thing you can't deny:
The female protagonist -Lauren- is not ridiculed or slutshamed, despite having had relationships in the past and considering sleeping with/dating two guys. (And rightfully so!) Neither the two men in question nor anyone else thinks of that as slutty or bad, which should be a given but ends up being one of the redeeming factors of an otherwise mediocre film. It's sad, but it's also true: I found it positively refreshing how they never questioned or judged her.
I do have huge issues with the actual love-triangle, though. Regardless of the Beauty-and-the-Beast nature of the relationship between Lauren and Chris Pine's character, there is also the fact that both guys used their CIA technology to spy on her and, truthfully, stalk her. To find out where she was, what she liked, whom she had been with in the past. - I don't care how unrealistic it was, or how it was just a plot-decide and a comic relief. It's not acceptable, period.
Lauren and Tom Hardy's character, too, made me slightly uncomfortable. They weren't Beauty-and-the-Beast material, but did the writers need him to be with his ex-wife again after Lauren's final rejection? Was that really necessary? Yes, I, too, wanted him to have a happy ending, giving his sweet and genuine (and stalker!creepy) nature, but that was just too easy, and frankly also too predictable.
Had a few laughs, predicted most of the plot (was surprised one or two times) and overall enjoyed it enough. For a chic flick, it'd probably deserve about 7 stars - IF you're drunk like I was while watching it.
Moderately amusing, but not that great. It's short though, so if you've nothing better to do then check it out. It's basically the length of the average movie (other than the first episode, they're only 10 minutes each).
I pronounce this movie officially ridiculous.
This is NOT a Mr. Bean type show.
Mr. Bean was intelligently written, this is just drivel... with nothing remotely close to being funny and plenty of stupidity.
1/10
At this point "Dread Central presents" is code for really bad flicks for me (excluding international imports)... Yes, the creepy mute clown idea isn't bad (and would fit in with other iconic horror characters) but somehow this ended up way worse than the already weak anthology he spawned from. The script is absolute garbage. Nothing is made off the "Halloween" setting and you can really tell that they had no idea how to get to 90 minutes because not only is it full of dumb clichés but they also bring in characters when they need a quick kill. I was bored out of my mind before the the mid point and I can only stomach so many "UHHHH, I STABBED HIM ONCE, LEFT MY WEAPON THERE AND NOW I'LL CERTAINLY RUN TO SAFETY AND HE WILL TOTALLY NOT COME BACK" moments > lmao at the terrible wooden plank scene. There's a surprisingly gory kill in there but the rest cannot even shine there due to editing/FX.
I don't understand why this film is popular? Almost cartoonist variations of "gangs" and an 80's soundtrack might bring nostalgic for some? I was left feeling underwhelmed. I didn't care about the characters and they were left without growth. This is a "cult classic" I don't agree with.
One of my favourite shows ever made. I was devastated when it ended, but I also think SyFy screwed them around. Amanda Tapping is the Empress of SciFi, and I hope she makes more soon.
The only thing that would have made this film better is when the Indians were talking in their native tongue to have the words on the screen so you knew what they were saying.
I feel terrible not liking this, but...I didn't really like this. The mystery didn't really gel for me: it had all the hallmarks of a Phryne case (helping someone vulnerable, tangled relationships, danger, great wardrobe) but it didn't feel like a Miss Fisher Murder Mystery. There did seem to be a bit of James Bond. The film opens with a chase rather than a murder, unlike the usual formula, which already put it a little off-kilter. They were clearly aiming for bigger, more exotic, more cinematic, and instead got a bit of a boring mess that for some reason had Phyrne switching between London and the Middle East and oh, have a random fencing scene that lasted probably less time than it took to get her in that outfit. Hugh and Dot, Burt and Cec were mere cameos on par with Aunt Prudence --- and worse, when did Dot get to find out Phryne wasn't dead? The first bit with the faked(?) death.... Phryne is bold and reckless but she isn't cruel, but unfortunately that's just what that plot made her out to be. Or at least, incredibly callous, which is still out of character.
What about her romance with Jack, which left off with a dramatic kiss before Phryne flew off to England, her calling to Jack to come after her? All wasted. Months have passed. She's not in Australia. Jack has had his heart broken. Phryne is, again, strangely cavalier. Most of movie starts them right back at the beginning with Jack being prickly, Phryne being flirty, and what sexual tension managed to carry forward was for me wrecked, again, by the stupid subplot at the start of the movie. Why? Why?! And she got married to some random we never meet to help him out, but again, why? Why even go there, except for some stupid regressive angst? I wanted Power Couple-Phrack. Instead I just felt really sad for Jack, and quite frankly was thinking good riddance to Phryne; if he were my friend, I'd have advised him to forget her.
Nobody will sleep in the woods tonight, but they will in their chairs while watching this movie.
Honestly, there's some good production value here, good actors, nice sets, good sound and soundtrack, but the too few deaths are too unoriginal to make this Polish horror film stand out in the genre.
the scripted shows coming from Quibi have been good, but i hate the mobile only short "bite size" format that is forced. if you can get past that, this series is worth a watch
garbage, don not wast your time.
