Love, Death & Robots: 3x09 Jibaro

The combination of extreme realism and violent digital cinematography makes this an otherworldly unsettling experience unlike anything else. I am amazed and disturbed.

The Peripheral

They should have dropped all the unnecessary subplots and drama and made it into a two hour movie

The Orville: 3x01 Electric Sheep

First thing I noticed is how much filler there is. Not sure I understand the point of making the episode 20 minutes longer, just to use that time on people sitting/standing in silence, too long cgi transitions and no stakes fights with bots (yeah yeah, she's so good with dimensions that she lost the fight and fast. I guess she was playing 4d chess).
On another note, never realized how obvious is the resemblance between Isaac and Zuckerberg. It's as if Mark got spraypainted gray! Awesome!

Lost in Space: 3x06 Final Transmission

This dude has an mp3 that kills robots and instead of telling everyone and using it to save the human race, he decides to make the robot - who is trying to kill every freaking human he knows of - to fall in love with him by showing him a skull of his dead creator lol When you take into account that kids are this dumb, other scenes in this series lose a lot of weight smh

The Matrix Resurrections

So if you are expecting Matrix 4, that's not it. They are making Matrix franchise into a cinematic Universe and starting with this regurgitation of the previous movies that zoomer audience haven't seen before. There were a couple of moments I liked, but mostly it's a collection of bad decisions for writing, directing and editing. Hopefully, a Disney+ interquel series about this main middle school looking crew searching for Neo will do better by having much less expectations attached to it.

My hopes were high for something from Nathan. Unfortunately, this is garbage

The freaking neighbours above me won't stop dropping crap. Of all the nights, it had to be after this movie. I never hated them so much in my life. It's my neighbours, ok. Just neighbours.

Raised by Wolves: 2x08 Happiness

This is a very niche review, but I'm glad the worm is gone. The new design looked like something a three year old would draw with crayons.

The Void

I enjoyed pretty much every aspect of this movie. Even though I am not a huge fan of gore, body horror here was pretty well made and the cinematics left just enough to get the point across without being puke-inducing. The plot kept me in the movie well and I got more than enough info about what's going on (not sure what some commenters are talking about, maybe they don't get the idea of cosmic horror?)

Midsommar

Besides the horrific relationship the main couple has, pretty much all of the horror in this movie relies on shock exposures to gore that you can count on one hand. Admittedly, the gore is well done, but other than that - the movie is just weird.
Drug use visuals are well done, but if you aren't interested in waiting a couple of hours for just a couple of scenes where you can see them, you can skip this film. Certainly skip director's cut and save at least half an hour.

The Holy Mountain

1973 checks out. Trying to be psychedelic and stoner-level deep. When you are high, "the ball is round" is deep, profound even. And then you sober up and see this laced nonsense.
Anything spiritual in the movie is surface-level and does not deserve association. You certainly won't learn anything new, might even get dumber by the end.
Speaking of associations, never have I appreciated Humane Associations more in my life.
Some shots were nice, liked the babes, loved the baby robot for some reason lol
If you are planning on watching this, I'd stick to regular porn. Although, if you go in expecting a crappy B movie, you might enjoy the sudden too high budget of it.

Carnival Row

I appreciate the effort that went into visuals(except the lighting - half of the series so far is near pitch black), this must be at the top of the fantasy genre in this regard, but I strongly suspect that you have to be a #1 fantasy fan to sit through this.
It's just so incredibly boring. Just get to the point, holy hell.
I must have only dropped a show mid-season one or two times in my life(I have a lot of spare time to watch even the worst lol), but I am 3 episodes in and I am strongly considering not wasting any more of my non-precious time on this.

Station Eleven

They made a good setting and that's it, nothing major happens for 10 episodes. A very long intro to the world some people inhabit, and then it ends - it is more of a first [10 hour] episode than a whole series. Maybe season 2 is where all the action will be at, but at the moment this one season is very lacking by itself, disappointing.

There is something very wrong with this movie, the first half I was only thinking about why it felt so off. I think it's the combination of subpar acting, weird dubbing and atrocious lines. "Was this generated by a computer?" was my first reaction - it's as if the scriptwriter never interacted with real humans and has only a vague idea of us. Even if the words weren't robotic by itself, what, how and when they talk about stuff is completely unrelatable. Even their names are made up gibberish! haha
Once the action kicked in, it didn't bother me as much, I was more focused on breaking apart the logic for the paranormal stuff and it's portrayal, for which I still have some gripes even after they tried to robotically explain some aspects away.
There is only one piece that lifted this out of the trash pile for me - the cave scene, which in my eyes could have a place in a hall of fame for horror or whatever. The rest of the movie is just building scenery and backstory for these beautiful 15 seconds. Oh, there were also a couple of nice butts too

Life

Idk how the creature got the crew so easily, they seem just as resilient to everything. I mean, they ought to be, seeing how there is a clear path for the alien from thrusters on the outside to the leg of a guy inside, meaning they are in vacuum at all times :D Which is also confirmed by the scene where Sho effortlessly opens the door to the compartment where the creature was locked supposedly in a vacuum and proceeds to fly inside without any breathing/freezing/boiling/exploding problems.
And then there are things like sound in space, and the amazing drooping broken hand, which droops [twice] in a place with no gravity..
At least in the end everyone on the planet dies, which felt like a good ending :)

How is this 70%? lol

The scariest part was when that girl sat on a toilet and simultaneously brushed her teeth and clipped her toenails. What kind of a monster would do this?!

The Tomorrow War

So a freaking dinosaur with teeth the size of a finger chomps on your arm, flails and throws you(a huge man) around by said arm, and not only did your arm not detach, explode or become ground beef - not a mark was left and you use that arm to straddle the dinosaur and kill it. Just to add to the mountain of gripes for this movie :)
I liked the alien design a lot. Most plot holes and questions I had throughout got resorted by the end, even if I had to use a bit of imagination. Quite a few dumb decisions by both humans and aliens, but I got better at handling these by thinking of every movie as a single branch in an infinity of possibilities - now it's realistic and it's only a single mediocre decision by the writers who chose this particular branch. It was ok.

Antibirth

A modern horror take on a classic trash, I guess? Feels like a too long first chapter of a trash horror - a lot of build up and very little payoff at the very end, which imo misses the mark of a good trash film by a long shot. It's probably not the worst of the genre either, but I don't know who could be a perfect audience for this one ... if they even exist.

This is a sci-fi snack, not a dinner. Don't go into it expecting the best of the best, it feels more like an indie short film. I watched it without any expectations and enjoyed it
