I certainly wasn't expecting this to be so affecting.
Max walked so Royal Tenenbaum could run. It's patchy but still at the upper end of the Wesometer.
This was so much more entertaining than I'd been expecting and the little comedic asides were an added bonus.
The fact that I was never entirely sure exactly what was going on just added to the sense of unease hanging over this film. All in all an unsettling and worthwhile experience.
There are so many good things going on here, but quite a bit that's rather mediocre. With a little more care and imagination this film could have been really something.
When the Farrellys watched this they realised the only problem was it wasn't quite dumb enough, and paydirt was just around the corner.
It's probably quite fitting that I watched this on Valentine's Day...
Two words: Fabulously bonkers. And I thoroughly approve.
Despite my relatively low rating I really did enjoy this. Probably because my low expectations for it were comfortably exceeded.
I was pretty disappointed to be honest. Perhaps I was expecting too much based on it's reputation but it didn't really engage me at all. And yes, I'm annoyed I never saw the twist coming.
