Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire

May I just say, Djimon Hounsou is ripped AF for this role. Has he ate nothing but chicken and bananas leading up to this? Christ. I need to get off the couch and get some steps in or something.

Space: Above and Beyond

Watching this for the first time in 2023. This show fell in a blind spot in my past and I missed it. This is still great! The writing, directing, and acting hold up! It would be great to see a reboot of this with modern FX.

Gen V

It's fun seeing a teenage bounty hunter again.

Secret Invasion

In an effort to produce movies and television shows which only broadly and loosely tie into each other - so as not to corner the writers of either - and by refusing to make any sort of actual commitment post Endgame, Marvel has killed the Marvel Universe, and more thoroughly than any of it's characters have.

I love Emily Blunt. In any century.

The Terminal List

This is the best role I've seen for Chris Pratt that's not a comedic Parks and Rec or Guardians of the Galaxy. I sure hope that this show can continue to adapt the books for a few more seasons because it feels like Pratt finally has a non-comedic role he can fill well. Good for him I say. This show hasn't been an exact adaptation but it is pretty close, and we'll produced.

Everything surrounding and regarding Empire and the dynasty is a strong 8/10 at times 9/10 particularly when following Brother Day or the character Gaal Dornick's story line. Everything else plays off as a weak 7/10, almost as if there is a first unit director working with the stellar cast playing the clones and Gaal and a second unit director managing everything else. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it's just unfortunate that the show feels a bit disjointed. I just started reading the books and I understand that this is a very loose adaptation but still it would have been better had the pacing and quality been more consistent throughout.

I did not know how much I needed this show until I watched it.

Titans: 2x06 Conner

This is the best episode yet of Titans. I cannot believe they finally pulled off this origin in live action. This is an incredible time to be a fan.

The Flash: 5x18 Godspeed

I was hoping for more Godspeed. I thought for sure they were saving this character so that they could have an entire arc with him. Good episode, I like the Reverse Flash Hannibal vibes, just disappointed with the (lack of) use of Godspeed.

Just started this series and the cinematography is... wow. This is beautiful.

The Magicians: 4x01 A Flock of Lost Birds

Okay... this was one of my favorite shows on television the first three seasons. But in the words of Margo... WTF HAPPENED?

This season premiere is absolutely atrocious in the worst possible way. The directing is terrible. The cinematography is terrible. The writing is disjointed and worse than terrible. I’m pretty sure the cameras and/or lighting has changed, possibly due to budgetary reasons? Certainly not the same look as previous seasons.

The only thing which hasn’t changed is the acting. Each character is still being well portrayed by each actor but it’s somewhat obvious they are working without direction and you can feel it from scene to scene. This is a massively disappointing outcome for me, because I originally rated this show a 9 but this first season four episode has dropped to about a 6. So unfortunate.

Lethal Weapon

First two seasons were pretty good, sadly after that the series suffers from forced character relationships which just don't feel authentic.

It's sad what happened with Clayne Crawford but the real life issues he was drawing energy from is what made him a good actor, and sadly he was the best part of this reboot.

The quality of the show has fallen lower than Hawaii Five-0 in recent episodes, and with so much other great television in this new golden age Lethal Weapon sadly just no longer makes the cut. (Go check out Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan)

Doctor Who: Season 11

This is my first season of Doctor Who, and my first time watching if you don't count that one Christmas special I muddled through years ago. It's overwhelming to know where to start, with completionist tendencies, and so many things these days to compete for your attention. New Doctor felt like the right time for a new show to check out and so far I am really into it. I watch the (12th Doctor?) Christmas ep just before starting this because it's called ep 00 for this season. Glad I did because there is a bit of a crossover. Looking forward to see where this goes!

Into the Badlands: 3x01 Enter the Phoenix

Terrible. This season opens with outdated Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon wire work, and leaves the exceptional martial arts of the previous seasons at the door. So much cheese. I literally saw the Widow’s shoes go from heels to flat footed soles back to heels at least a half dozen times. I never even made it past the title card - two seasons is enough for me. You’ve tightened the purse strings and it’s showing, AMC. I used to applaud this show for hiring the stunt choreographers that Netflix’s Iron Fist should have. Smh.

The Americans

Just had to say, this is my favorite show on television right now. followed closely by House of Cards. Between these two shows I haven't had time for anything else! Back to back to back to back.

Arrow

I've always felt that this show has had strong moments in some seasons while it suffered in others. I like Oliver the most when he is a reluctant mentor for younger and powered superheroes. But in this latest season I find myself really, really not caring about his flashbacks. Like, not even a little. It was cool when he was on the island but I just don't care much for the rest. Seems far-fetched, but then again I never read the comics so perhaps there is a reason.

The Magicians

This show started off a bit slow I thought, and reminded me in no small way of the Chronicle of Narnia books I read as a kid, with a modern twist. Another one of those, I thought. Great. I put this show aside for awhile, and only recently came back to it again when the new season released. I've found myself starting to care about the characters a bit more. There must be some new writing talent behind it, but it feels more like the same writers have begun to find their way. This show... this show turns me on. In a way I can't quite put my finger on, it's kinda sexy. It's fulfilling in a way that a B-movie can be entertaining on the right night and in the right company.

24: Legacy

I'd like to give it a chance - currently watching the pilot episode - but this show feels as though it is a direct sequel to the original. Unfortunately, the original started losing steam after the first few seasons, as many shows do. The sad reality is that this show feels a few years late to the party. I feel like this show might benefit from a crossover with a few original members from the original.

Captain America: The First Avenger

@jonstark5 Agreed. I thought this movie was a great intro movie in the same vein as Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Dr. Strange. Not too perfect but still re-watchable. But I also think that it is made even better by the fact that the follow up, Winter Soldier, is one of the best of all the Marvel movies. This movie laid the foundation for that, and in many ways for the entire MCU even more than Iron Man.
