OK. for anyone that follows my comments, you know that I put these rom com Christmas movies on for my wife but I occasionally find a gem that I appreciate. This was one such film. Both characters are very likable. I may be a bit sentimental but I rather liked this one. If your wife likes these this will be OK with you.
So put this on for my wife. I planned to play on my tablet only giving the movie token attention. But dang was this a fun romp. I laughed. I cried (not really). I really liked this play on 1947 vs 2023. Good job Hallmark!
Sorry, didn't work for me. Too lighthearted and madcap fun for a serious topic for me. My wife liked it and the couple we went with liked it. The actors were attractive and likable... so if this is your cup of tea it will be enjoyable for you.
They dragged me to this. But I get to pick the movie next time.
I did like the first half of the movie. but cummon, the Home Depot thing was rather silly. Using Home Depot tools to one by one kill the inept bag guys.... Why didn't he just pick up one of the bad guy's gun and kill them that way? Sorry, I'm not a fan of silly super hero battles in a movie that is otherwise serious.
This movie had a profound effect on me when it came out in the 80s when I was a young guy in the navy. I didn't realize the reality of war and Viet Nam until I saw this. Watching it now these years later in the comfort of my beach home and retirement it brings me back to the horror that was Viet Nam.
It's never too late to be who you might have been...
I don't know, I rather liked it... Yeah, it had some real potential that wasn't realized but the mood was pretty good.
OMG why is my wife liking this?
The characters were all very well acted but the story itself wasn't very deep. In fact it was a bit shallow.
Ok good acting, but, it feels like a story told from a 2020 perspective, not from a historical perspective. Kind of tired of 2020 values showing up in my movies. The black men are strong. The women are strong. The men are weak. Is this true to history?
So nostalgic. I remember watching this with my mother when I was a young boy. I cried at the end then. Now... It's very sappy and dated, but if you can feel it, the fun is still there.
As much as l have liked these actors in the past, I just couldn't get past using these old guys to portray young gangsters. They had to have so much makeup on they at times looked cartoonish. Probably not going to be a popular opinion but I would have loved this movie if Scorcese had used younger, fresher faces in this.
Deniro playing a young, tuff truck driver, with his leather jacket and goofy hat just seemed silly.
Yes, kind of silly, but it was fun and I gotta admit I enjoyed it...
Brilliant film that had me all choked up by the end. You just know the big pay off was coming and it was perfect.
I so loved this when I saw it as a 9 year old boy. Not sure I could sit through it now but man was I into this...
Maybe one of the most absurd movies I've ever seen... But still a lot of fun to watch.
They never really put a compelling story together. It wants to be a Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels but the story is so weak...
We really liked this production of JCS. The weak performance in all of this: John Legend as the Jesus character. All others were fantastic. Loved Alice Cooper as Herod.
