Man in Love

Typical trope but great acting. Congrats Roy Chiu and Tiffany Ann Hsu on their marriage announcement!

This might as well be 'Pocahontas' in space.

Curious about why I had given the movie a poor rating initially, I decided to rewatch it. To my delight, I thoroughly enjoyed it the second time around. The art style that had initially captivated me still holds its charm, and the ending, which had slipped my memory, turned out to be wonderfully satisfying. Worth checking it out!

Blue Beetle

Received an invitation to the premiere, and as you guessed, it had very typical superhero tropes. I don't really mind it and kinda dig the light-heartedness. The storyline isn't groundbreaking but the slapstick humor here and there makes it a fun watch. I'm glad I went, it was a great choice to unwind on a midweek evening.

Color Me True

I guess the film can either be a beautiful fantasy or a corny, iffy one, depending on how you feel about parasocial relationships. If you don't put too much thoughts into it, it's a sweet romcom. Plot aside, the cinematography is stunning, and both Kentaro and Ayase were perfect for their roles. I am all whipped for Ayase's Audrey Hepburn-esque look, she looks gorgeous.

Call Me Chihiro

Admittedly, this film isn't quite clicking for me. I was unable to discern its intended message although still found it enjoyable till the end. I liked the intricate human interactions showcased in the story. Despite dealing with mature and dark themes, the movie maintains a gentle and warm tone without any over-the-top melodrama.

The film felt longer than necessary. Things only got slightly interesting on the second half.

Not terrible but not the best. Most exciting part to me was probably the post-credit with Blade / Black Knight reveal. (yikes!)

Spider-Man: No Way Home

What a nostalgic ride

The returning characters and OG actors from past films was definitely the crux of the movie's success. Let's face it, you won't see this many people swamping the theatres, if it's just another sequel of the teen spidey's story in a forgettable trilogy. Such an awesome assembly of villains. Defoe and Molina absolutely killed it and boy, the surprise good guys. So good to see my man, Tobey (and Andrew)!

Overall one heck of a fun ride even though the ending kinda threw me for a loop.

Can't believe we got to see Fala Chen again, let alone on the big screen! :')

Gotta say, the bus scene was epic thanks to the fight sequences, camera angles and stunt effects. Tony Leung unsurprisingly stole the show. Simu Liu on the other hand, has the most stoic and flat expression. He needs some serious acting lessons.

A story of true friendship between two ATTRACTIVE young women, what is there not to like? lol

But truly, it was a decent film. The narrative was simple and non-exaggerated yet it didn't lack the elements of a compelling story. Daughters takes on a very timely topic about single motherhood. Transitioning from realistic to surreal, the camerawork perfectly mirrored the shifts of emotions in the main characters. The casting choice was great and Hajime Tsuda's direction was commendable for a debut film, I wish it was more accessible to viewers.

Incredibly emotive without being sentimental and melodramatic. A movie that quietly breaks your heart with every sequence without you realizing it </3

Little Women

Just saw the 2019 version. I must say I still prefer this one so much more. The chemistry among Winona, Claire, Trini and Kirsten can never be rivaled. The way they acted, spoke to one another, teased one another and loved one another, all felt so genuine and real. Also, the soundtracks they are incredible and truly made the 1994 version!

At Eternity's Gate

"Maybe God made me a painter for people who aren't born yet."

Visually, this is a very compelling film that drips vibrance and grit like one of Van Gogh's paint brushes. Yet, I was left without an emotional conclusion — some scenes which are supposed to carry weigh were short and then abruptly transitioned to the next event. As an ardent fan of the artist, this fell slightly short for me.

Wonderful casts tho.
