Queen of Tears

I've always admired Kim Jiwon's versatility and felt that she was somewhat underrated. Finally in this drama, she receives the well-deserved recognition that has been long overdue.

Plot-wise, it's quite predictable with some clichés and loopholes but I can't help tuning in to every episode. The cast has great chemistry, especially since many of them have worked together on other projects. The show's creators also included plenty of easter eggs, so if you're a fan of kdramas and movies, you'll enjoy spotting some of them. I personally appreciate how the drama isn't overly complicated (although I don't understand choosing death over losing memories???), funny at times and has many heartstring-tugging moments, culminating in a highly satisfying ending.

ONE PIECE

Not gonna lie, this show feels like a high-budget children's production. This isn't meant to be a put-down and I genuinely enjoyed the show. I haven't seen the anime or manga, maybe the child-friendly tone was an intentional nod to the original. The characters were well-cast, even though some lacked strong acting skills. All in all, if you can move past the initial cringe, it's entertaining and at times, wholesome, like a lot of the shonen manga.

Burn the House Down

I started watching this drama for Nagano Mei, but the premise on which the story is built has made it hard to continue. I mean, I understand the need for drama, but does it really make sense for a husband to divorce his wife just because she caused a house fire, which obviously was an accident, and then for the wife to become so traumatized that she develops amnesia? Wouldn't insurance take care of the aftermath? It's not even as if they are poor. If you have a husband like that, count yourself fortunate to be divorced from him.

It's a shame but I do hope someone (especially those of you who enjoyed it) can offer counterpoints and convince me to give it another chance.

Seriously, this show is a goldmine for quotes. Love it!
The writing is masterful, the cast performances are incredible, and the cinematography is amazing. It's nothing short of brilliant. I rate this show a solid 9 out of 10. The only reason it's not a perfect 10 is simply because I despise Tom with every fiber of my being but at the time, his victory in the end has greatly amplified the impact of the show's finale.

Had to drop this. They did a real disservice to the character of Steven Grant by turning him into a bumbling clown. It was just hard to watch. A real shame.

Kawai is meccha kawaii~ Overall, great casts and comedy. I laughed my head off at the stake out scene at the restaurant in ep. 8. Lots of heartwarming moments too (j-dramas are always so good at pulling at people's heartstrings). Hope there's a season 2!

The Walking Dead

I’m allowed to be a little sad.

So it has come to an end. The Walking Dead started strong, went downhill after S6 but picked up again towards the end of S10. Despite its ups and downs, TWD will forever be a show that I cherish — for its compelling writing and the great many characters that I have come to love. Genuinely contented with the ending, thought they did a great job wrapping up the story and building up for the spin-off.

Predictable, sure. But still a fun watch. The blend of crime-noir suspense and slapstick comedy in this one works, creating a nice balance of tune. A well-paced, binge-worthy drama.

'Unsung Cinderella' reminds me of 'Radiation House', both revolved around professions that don't get much primetime attention and often overlooked in the healthcare industry. Both are manga turned medical dramas. Can't say they have the most accurate representation of the pharmaceutical and radiology departments, but everything in the dramas, the workplace conversations and scenarios came across as very realistic and convincing.

I've thoroughly enjoyed 'Unsung Cinderella'. It is a slice-of-life medical drama that doesn't lack action, intensity and lovable characters that offer interesting mix of personalities and chemistry. I especially like Ms. Handa (the department chief) whom provided immense comic relief. Ishihara Satomi didn't disappoint and I am glad Narita Ryo got to play Onozuka.

I've thoroughly enjoyed Reply 1988 and Prison Playbook. This one fell short of my expectation. I find some of the character arcs either too predictable or too pat. Not saying it was bad. Just hope the next season has a stronger plot.

♪ Toss a coin to yer witcher—

It's a pity that they didn't take advantage of it being a TV series to add a few more details to the world building and the characters' arcs. The storytelling was rocky, not very convincing. Although I didn't mind the timeline jumps, they could've been done better. The pacing felt a lil off and each character’s arcs were distinctly different in tone, significantly undermined the sense of cohesiveness.

Not horrible but definitely has plenty of room for improvement.

That said, bring on Season 2 because I'd still be interested to check it out.

Chernobyl

“When the truth offends, we lie and we lie until we can no longer remember it is even there. But it is still there."

Chernobyl was a gripping experience through and through. All the theatrical elements—the screenwriting, acting, cinematography, sound design, art direction—were masterly put together, allowing one to immerse in an unadulterated realism. To feel as if you were there. To feel the anxious pressure of impending doom, the hollow throb of death and the numb of hopeless devastation.

The phenomenal storytelling and the entire experience lifted this series above the rest for me. Every scene carries a weight and not a second is wasted in its run-time.
