I am so sorry this show isn't getting the love it deserves. Powerful acting, character driven plot, set in the not too distant future. Loving the setting, smart devices and believable technology. The music is amazing... and I am enjoying the story.
Slow boil admittedly... but I like that it is taking the time necessary to develop its characters. Easy to root for the protagonist in any series... but I am 3 shows in and I actually care about most of these folks. Worried with ratings this low it won't have the staying power to really develop and come into its own.
If you came for sci fi adventure... I think it will come... but the beauty of this show is in its human drama and characters. Please, please, please Hulu ignore the ratings and bring us more!
I fell in love with this show. Maybe it's nothing groundbreaking, and perhaps it treads too closely to Golden Age cliche, but what it's doing is right up my alley. It's a mood-driven show. Big themes, big ideas; emotional. It's beautiful to look at, the score is intoxicating (if divisive — I heard someone call its horns the "horns of importance"). Watch it on a big screen in a dark room if you can.
This first season is 2 episodes of what you came to see, and 6 of something else. I should say I feel like it could have been 3 episodes shorter, but overall even though it was a bit slow at times, it's still a show I would recommend...
If you didn't see too much of the marketing material and aren't hyped about seeing "a series about going to mars", but rather just see it as a story about human struggle (in multiple ways), then this is a pretty good show.
The first and last episodes are good. I mean "crying from excitement/dreading a future without this/wanting this for humanity/loss" good. Maybe I'm just a sucker for tales about human exploration, especially with the space part in it, but I really liked them. I feel like you could maybe make a 3-episode edit with E01, E08 and some cuts about the MAV fuckups/various political stuff and it would make a great tale about a possible future for humanity. The family relationship drama doesn't ruin it per se, but it definitely disappoints expectations you might have going into it.
I'm definitely going to have to rewatch this show and this episode, in particular. More and more names are being mentioned, and it's a little hard keeping proper track of them on only one watch.
I went into the theatre not knowing what this movie was about but knowing Cate Blanchett would do a good job either way & that turned out to be very true. I found Cate's character to be relatable in several ways and she did a great job portraying the many emotions of Bernadette. I thought the movie would spend more time showing Bernadette's journey in Antarctica but I loved it nonethless and some great cinematography here. Emma Nelson as Bree Branch should be commended here as her character was a joy to watch as was her bond with her mother - and it didn't feel forced. The only real flaw this movie had was those shoddy photoshops showing Bernadette's early life - really?! Should have asked Cate's fandom on twitter, they'd have provided hundreds for fun.
I've never seen anyone more captivating than Angelina Jolie in this movie. Wow.
I can't seem to bring myself to be invested in this show. It isn't bad, and it is enjoyable, just about. At the same time, it is also very underwhelming, for the most part. And at this point, I'm just watching it week after week because I'm bored or want to past the time, and because I already began watching it, so I feel like I'm obligated to see it through to the end. And I will. But I hope it starts becoming more engaging.
Alright, this was much better than the premiere. My theory is that a shapeshifter is involved, most people probably do. It seems like the obvious explanation. The person in the green hoodie is the shapeshifter and so is the strange man that's messing with the daughter for some reason. But what is the reason for killing Frankie? And why frame Terry? Frankie's death caused and led to Joy's death, which led to Ollie killing Terry and getting killed, which led to Fred attempting to kill himself, and the shapeshifter was present outside the house during that. Now, Terry's daughter is getting messed with by the shapeshifter. There must be something important about these two families, something intricate about this whole thing. The other explanation I can think of is that the shapeshifter had no reason to kill Frankie, it just did, out of fun or evil, and all the connections caused by it is simply coincidental. But that doesn't seem, I don't know, specific enough.
What a cliffhanger! I love the twisted dirty secrets.
Despite predictability, this was everything I could have wanted/expected out of this event! Pairing this with Stand & Deliver earlier in the day, it was a rock solid day of wrestling for WWE.
While the top tier of premium events (to me) have something unique or memorable with the matches, this one doesn’t quite stand out in that way. There was several great payoff storylines (Zayn, Ripley, Mysterio, Theory) that have impact for fans of the franchise.
Excited to see what tomorrow brings (hopefully more surprises), and ultimately what these two new champions bring from the story front on a weekly basis.
Best Match: Owen/Zayn vs The Usos
Rating: 4/5 - 8.5/10 - Would Recommend
Critics dismissed First Knight as a cliched Hollywood production and they wouldn't be wrong. But as much as the snobby side of me wanted to dismiss the film, I really liked this film.
The film flows quickly without any boring scenes. Although the film is a cliched love triangle, I thought it was handled with maturity. Furthermore, I found it refreshing from the usual Arthurian films. It focuses on Lancelot (Richard Gere) as the central focus.
Yes, Richard Gere looks too old, too modern, and American. Yes, the chemistry between three principles is tepid at times. But for what it's worth, Richard Gere is charismatic, the sword fights are pretty realistic and not over the top.
Sean Connery plays Arthur with dignity and looks amazing. And Julia Ormond is beautiful. But my favorite is Liam Cunningham (best known as Davos "the Onion knight" from Game of Thrones). Although his part is minor, he looks badass.
Will is such a RAT, I was so mad when he stayed. Disappointed in Amanda for siding with Will and not Alyssa
I watched this episode in person! It was my first live event, there was two matches prior to going live, and Cody versus Dominik Mysterio, i enjoyed myself and will be attending more shows.
Cat dead, details later.
Re-Animator has so many great moments! The ending, decapitated head giving head, the amazing sequence with all the re-animated bodies in the morgue, the way Dr. Herbert West drives that bone-saw through the first re-animated corpse's chest! The cat, every scene were the FX team show off how good they are!
Yes, the gore is amazing, almost everything looks so damn amazing and I always want to know how they did it. I think it so underrated sometimes these days because CGI but movies like Re-Animator shows us that practical effects still look damn amazing. In the end, Re-Animator is well worth the watch!
Loved this show. Beautiful cinematography that is on experimental side, and haunting soundtrack to match it. The story is slow, but purposeful, and focuses on human struggle. A very believable portrayal of near future. I think they missed with marketing, trying to catch a greater audience, hence the lower ratings. I hope they don't cancel this show because of it, because it is one of the most unique out there. The First will forever be one of my favourites.
i liked john to start with but i can’t stand him now. to be just yelling at aaron for Having a Panic Attack and having to leave and saying that was fake, and then he’s storming off… hypocritical much. hate him
putting this comment in when i’m only ten minutes in so who knows what will happen BUT maddie is so infuriating. she’s accidentally latched on to wilf and caught aaron in the crossfire for no good reason and then she thinks because people are saying she’s wrong that she’s right lol. i’m mad
edit after the mission: red group just sauntering along i’d have been furious if i was literally buried lol. nightmare
edit after the round table: actually furious at amanda… alyssa has been playing the game better than will the whole time and this is what amanda does…. furious
The definition of a movie that’s competent but devoid of anything interesting.
