[7.5/10] Well, they beat Tommy Wiseau to the punch by a couple of years on the title, so that’s an accomplishment out of the gate! But seriously, this was good! It’s the first time in the short history of Six Feet Under that I’ve liked every single storyline at play. We had interesting contrasting themes about whether you can truly know someone else, even a family member, versus it being okay for people to have parts of their lives that are private, reflected in each of Nathaniel’s sons. And we also had compelling tales about how hard it is to move on when someone who truly does and did know you moves on, even as life changes dramatically.
Oh, and then we have Brenda’s brother, Billy, photographing himself feeling up an underage girl for some reason. Uh...ok. My best guess is that he wants to use the photo to try to blow up Brenda and Nate’s relationship, either just because he doesn’t want to have to share his loved one with anybody or because he has legitimate Folgers Coffee-style issues. Either way, it’s really weird, and I feel bad for Claire having to deal with yet another love-her leave-her asshole guy.
But it’s worth it because I like the Brenda/Claire pairing better than any other pairing we’ve gotten with these characters so far. (Well, maybe Ruth and Claire.) It’s a good beat for Claire to be starstruck when she realizes that Brenda’s the subject of the book she was briefly obsessed with and for Brenda to be so over it after people glamorize a traumatic period of her life. But I also like Brenda being big sisterly to Claire, looking out for her and warning her about Billy, and more generally being a better role model and guide than her literary equivalent. I hope the show sticks with it.
Nate’s certainly more interesting apart from Brenda. I like the way a chance encounter with a former client who traded oil changes for funeral services sends Nate on an unwitting scavenger hunt for his father. He finds his dad’s pot dealer and even a secret room behind a restaurant with playing cards and a couch and lipstick on a glass. Along the way, he hears from the people who provided his dad these things that secretly, Nathaniel was proud of his son for running away.
It’s a trip and seizes on one of those universal truths that it’s rare to fully know a person. We all contain multitudes, and even for people whom we care about, there are parts of their lives or thoughts we’re just not privy to. Nate dealign with that -- processing the fact that it’s too late for him to truly know his father and all that’s left is to pick up the pieces; puzzle over his dad’s secret escapades, approval, and motives; and try to move on -- is the most compelling he’s been as a character so far.
David’s story is a little more understated, but in a good way. He doesn’t mind that their dad had a private life they didn’t know about because he, more than any of the Fishers, understands having things he can’t share but which still need to be expressed somewhere.
Tracy continues her courtship spree and won’t take no for an answer, but I like that it has two effects. The first is that it humanizes Tracy a little bit. We get that she’s recovering from a divorce and suffering from a lack of human contact and capable of being hurt. She’s been such a cartoon character so far that adding a human dimension to her like really improves the character. At the same time, she convinces David that he might need some of that same human contact, and has a one-night stand with a guy he picks up at a gay bar. But he’s clearly uncomfortable about the whole thing, before and after, and seems to even yearn for/feel guilty over Keith when he spots a squad car driving by. It’s yet another complicated emotion within the show’s most complicated character, and I dig it.
(As an aside, it’s a bit of a trip watching David’s scene at his “date’s” apartment, since there’s a weirdly similar scene with Michael C. Hall in Dexter .)
I also dig Ruth’s storyline here. She is grappling with the “relics” of her old life like a saucepan or jar of baby food that each stir memories. She’s hesitant with suitors like Ed Begley Jr. or her flower deliveryman who are each trying to reconnect with her after Nathaniel’s passing. She’s trapped in a lot of ways, between a life she wants to honor that she and her husband built together over the course of decades, and between a new life she wants to live (and wanted to live before Nathaniel died) but feels guilty over. In the end, she seizes that new life and rekindles things with Begley Jr., but it’s not entirely clear whether it’s because she’s allowing herself to move on and be happy and have the things she wants, or if it’s just because she misses her husband and wants the same sort of human contact that Tracy and David were after.
The mourner of the week certainly wants some of that contact, in the more traditional sense, as he refuses to let go of his dead wife’s hand. Cobb is great, as he’s been in other roles, at playing a cantankerous old man. He’s got the irascibility down pat, but also the cynicism. You can viscerally feel the way this man has lost the most important person in the world to him and isn’t okay with it. That speaks to Nate’s predicament when he talks about the level of intimacy and shared vulnerability it takes to truly know someone, and to Ruth’s situation when he talks about building a life with someone for fifty-six years and not knowing how to live with them gone. (And, in fact, he doesn't, at least not for very long.)
That goes to the most touching moment in the episode, when Nate returns some risque pictures to his mom that his father had kept. Ruth tells her son the story of how they came about, of a young couple spending their last night together before Nathaniel went off to war, about how they were supposed to be a good luck charm, about how they were basically different people then and how so much as changed. It’s a great performance from Frances Conroy and earns the honesty and complexity at the root of it, vindicating the episode’s themes on multiple dimensions.
Overall, this is Six Feet Under’s best outing yet, with interesting themes, good stories, for everyone, and save for a bizarre Billy subplot, insightful and endearing moments for everyone in the cast.
What a horribly titled episode. ZERO payback at all. Zero results from previous payback. It really gives a distorted perception of this episode which imo does a lot of things well. The Will/Carlton relationship starts off finally where it should have been as far as I'm concerned. Will trying to make Carlton cool. It even ends with Carlton not being black like Will but being black like Carlton, with that actually working for him. That was a great arc to watch even when you include the fact that Carlton throws a hissy fit when someone gives him the honest feedback when he claims he "can take it". Yeah this relationship ends the episode in (it makes the TV better Brand of) tension but not nearly as bad as I feared. Even Will has a small arc where he learns a little bit more about the struggle that Carlton has had to go through being one of few black kids.
Then we have two relationships getting into their own conflict. Hilary/Jazz and Philip/Vivian. Both of them end up in sexist positions but my stance on both is not the same. Philip overstepped. In every stage of their issue he went too far. He didn't consult for the finances. He was too open about his jealous concerns. He didn't respect Viv's grind. Hilary/Jazz has a similar dynamic though Hilary is in the wrong for pretending she didn't completely collapse on her principles for some money from a brand that isn't even in her wheelhouse. I will note that Jazz (I would even go so far to say) is gaslighting when he says "I get all that but I just didn't think you'd sell your soul". When you recontextualize and reform that he's saying "I understand, but I don't understand". Still every point Jazz makes is basically right. It just sounds bad because he argues like someone on a Jubilee video. Hitting the point but so badly it has that classic foul ball ding. I kinda wish he would have pushed back more on not the fact that what she's doing offends HIS morality but that it offends HER morality. Without that it does make him sound like he's trying to (as she put it mockingly) be her Dad.
Title aside I think this is a good episode for a dramatic intense reboot of Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
I'm sure most people reading this page wish the show wasn't cancelled. Here is an article from Vanity Fair that talks with Paul Feig about what would have happened with the characters next.
Lindsay Weir (Linda Cardellini)
Paul Feig: I always figured something bad was gong to happen to Lindsay when she was out with the Dead. [The series ended with her ditching a summer-school program to follow the Grateful Dead with Kim Kelly.] I was hoping the second season would open with her being taken out of a concert on a stretcher while Queen’s “Tie Your Mother down” plays. That’s all I had. But I thought it would be interesting—she comes back, has completely lost the trust of her family; so she’s in even deeper having been really been outed as a problem. But there wasn’t a strong direction I had for her; I just knew she’d probably end up at some point in her twenties in Greenwich Village as a performance artist, and after that she’d probably become a lawyer—a human-rights lawyer.
Sam Weir (John Francis Daley)
Sam’s future was going to be drama club. Because that was my experience in school: I got deep into drama club. That was the storyline I was most excited about, because I was going to portray what actually happened to me. I thought he’d be more on the stage crew than actually performing, just because that was kind of interesting, the guys that were keeping it together from behind the scenes. But my drama teacher, who was one of the biggest influences on my life creatively, was an alcoholic, and over the course of my sophomore through senior year, she got worse and worse and started depending on me. I’d get called away from class under the guise of an emergency, and it would be her on the phone saying, “You’ve got to come pick me up. I left my car at the bar last night.” So I was really excited to get that going, this weird kind of taking-care-of-an-adult relationship, while he’s still learning amazing stuff from her, this tortured drama-teacher soul. That bummed me out the most, not getting to play that story out.
Neal Schweiber (Samm Levine)
Another burning desire I had was to get Neal into swing choir. Now Glee has taken it and run with it, but I always thought that would be a funny world for Neal to go into. There’s a weird little clique, and you have all these inside jokes, and all these kind of obnoxious performance things you bond with people over—I just thought he would really blossom in there and think he was kind of the king of the school. We figured it could be his outlet while his parents are going through a really horrible divorce. Since Judd had gone through that in his real life, that was kind of going to be his domain—telling all his tales from adolescence through that.
Bill Haverchuck (Martin Starr)
With his mom dating Coach Fredricks, Judd and I liked the idea of Bill slowly becoming a jock—that he turned out to be good at basketball and started to get into it, so that he was getting pulled a little more over to the jock side. Which would create an odd little rift with him and the other geeks. Because Martin is quite athletic in real life, and we were like, “Oh, let’s maybe play that out for him.” He works out a lot, Martin does, and at the beginning of the show he would come in with these giant biceps—we had to make him stop doing that.
Daniel Desario (James Franco)
Daniel’s such a drifter. I always liked the idea that eventually Daniel would probably end up in jail. [Laughs.] We were kind of, you know, taking him in this different direction. I wasn’t quite sure where that was going to lead. I knew it couldn’t stay in that world. I always liked the idea of: you go away for the summer and you come back and everybody’s kind of in a different place. But it’s hard to say with him; I think he had too many things pulling him in different directions. Having lost Kim, there would be a weirdness between them. But I wasn’t quite sure yet.
Kim Kelly (Busy Philipps)
I wanted Kim Kelly to be pregnant, but it wasn’t necessarily going to be Daniel’s. I thought this actually happened when she was out on the road with Lindsay following the Dead—that she shacked up with some guy, whether she was high at the moment or whatever, and comes back pregnant. That was another burning desire of mine, because when we were in high school there’d always be a girl or two who were pregnant, and it was so mind blowing. I thought it would be interesting with Daniel kind of around, and it’s not his, and it’s weird—and would he step up, since she doesn’t really know who the dad is, or isn’t really in contact with him? So maybe it was a chance for Daniel to become a young teen father—see what could have happened if we had a second season? And Kim and Lindsay—that would become a true friendship. Obviously they would have to have some back and forth and falling apart, but I like the girl power they had at the end of the last episode—they had both come through the fire in different ways and really bonded hardcore.
Nick Andopolis (Jason Segel)
I liked how we were kind of moving Nick towards having to go into the army, because of his badass dad. ’Cause that was a real option for so many people in my school—but he would be desperately trying to avoid it. But I was never quite clear exactly what direction we were going to go with Nick.
Ken Miller (Seth Rogen)
There was a guy I knew in school who was kind of Ken-like and he moved away to Hawaii; we were told he moved there just so he could smoke pot. I don’t know if that was the direction Ken was going to go. I always liked that we had set up that he had rich parents. But Ken’s such an enigma. I think he’s the guy that just kind of hangs around town. My instinct is we would have had the most fun searching for what his life would be. We liked to surprise people with Ken’s character—what was the thing you’d least expect he would do, or place he’d come from? I can completely see us loading him up with a lot of weird shit. I was sad we never got to show his parents, and God only knows whom we would have had him dating. I can definitely see a scenario where Lindsay would have tried dating Ken—that would be really funny. High-school romances are so flash-in-the-pan; there’s that awkwardness of having your ex walking around the school. Or, in my case, girls who turned me down but I had the awkwardness of them knowing I was into them and they had no interest in me.
Millie Kentner (Sarah Hagan)
We had actually thought about trying to turn Millie into a burnout at some point—“What? You’re what?” It would have been really fun to twist where she was going. I love changing people’s alliances. Because no one knows who they are or what they’re doing—basically they’re trying on different hats, different masks, if you will.
Cindy Sanders (Natasha Melnick)
We ended with Cindy as such a hardcore Republican. I liked her being a weird nemesis for Sam—I would have loved seeing them run against each other for student-council president. There’s nothing funnier to me than when the person you were in love with suddenly becomes this monster. You can’t figure out why you liked them. I think we would have had a lot of fun with Cindy.

That was one hell of an episode (no pun intended). Best episode of the season so far. I loved everything. I was in total shock and awe. Everything was just perfect. Lucifer's guilt, Amenadiel's blame, Maze and Trixie, detective douche getting punched in the face. Tom Ellis can truly act. He was terrific this episode. He always is, but today, he hit the spot. Comedy, tragedy, drama, everything is spot on. In this week's episode I just wanted to give him a hug. Yes. Hug the Devil . Just give the Devil a big big hug.
I also loved the music in this episode. That was amazing. Kaleo's Way Down We Go while they were looking at Uriel's grave was incredible. The pace, the rhythm, everything. And when you think this can't get any better Lucifer plays Unforgiven in the piano. That sing is my blindspot. I simply love it. I rewatched that part more times that I can even count. I just loved that scene.
The only thing I found a little weird was the ending. Sure they could've made him look more terrifying. He looked pitiful in a way. Maze looked truly more terrifying than him. Sure they couldve pulled a better one together. At the beginning of season 1 he really looked different.
Anyways, a great applause to writers, directors and actors. This episode was shockingly beautiful.
It's Supergirl day, so you know what that means: it's time for yet another mess of a review!
I didn't understand why everyone was so excited about Lynda Carter playing the President, but hey, Google's your friend. I'm not American, so a lot of references - like the fact that she played Wonder Woman on a TV show in the 70's - go over my head. I love learning things like that. It shows how much effort and thought goes into creating the series.
Kara's excitement over meeting the President was adorable. What a precious ray of sunshine.
Mon-El will be Kara's new love interest, won't he? God damn it.
Lena Luthor is freaking beautiful. Just... Jesus Christ. But that device she invented? Yup, I'm with Kara on that one. Burn it.
The President is an alien! The bartender is a Martian! My head is spinning! So many plot twists and they're all sick!
And now, let's talk about Maggie Sawyer for a second, shall we? Do you hear that sound? It's me. Yelling excitedly because I've been waiting for this since Floriana Lima's casting was announced like 4 months ago.
Maggie Sawyer is everything I wanted her to be: badass, smart, witty, funny and all-around amazing. Hell yes. I already love her.
Last summer, one of the people in charge of the CW/DC universe said that one of the main characters on one of the four shows would be coming out this season. And in this episode we got Alex Danvers looking at Maggie with what can only be described as Heart Eyes. Alex Danvers, the only main character on Supergirl who's never been shown to have a love interest of the opposite gender (although some people shipped her with the human equivalent of toxic radioactive waste Trashwell Lord, but come on).
"- What, you got a hot date?
- Actually, I do."
Cut to Alex staring after Maggie with a little smile on her face, letting out a thoughtful "hmmm".
I rest my case.
tl;dr: this show is awesome, Maggie and Alex are probably going to make out at some point and I feel so alive.
My two favorite TV superheroes teaming up and kicking ass? What's not to love?
I really enjoyed Kara and Barry's interactions. They work well together and have easy, natural chemistry that makes them delightful to watch. Also, they are ridiculously adorable and funny. I couldn't help but grin like a maniac the whole episode.
Siobhan and Leslie were just big enough of a threat to make the action scenes interesing. Never mind that it apparently took Siobhan about 2 seconds to master her new abilities of which she'd been unaware all her life. Her makeup and hair were pretty ridiculous, but they were probably based on her comic book look, so I won't complain.
Cat Grant is flawless. I feel like I'm repeating myself, but she is just amazing. Her one-liners are hilarious ("You look like the attractive, yet non-threatening, racially diverse cast of a CW show"). It was nice to see her more vulnerable, motherly side during the park scene. And at this point I'm 99.9% certain that she knows about Kara. If she doesn't, the writers are just insulting her intelligence.
Kara earning the city's forgiveness was actually quite touching, even though it was a pretty cheesy moment. Still, I can handle some cheesiness as long as this golden retriever of a person is happy.
Can James just go away, please? Or, like, I don't know, die? Sacrifice himself Eddie-style in the season finale? I honestly don't care. Just make him disappear. He's useless, his only purpose this episode was to be jealous of Barry, he can't even move his face. Why can't Kara just be single? And if they really insist on putting her in a romantic relatioship, there are a billion better options than goddamn James. Get your shit together, writers. This episode would've been a perfect 10 for me had it not been for that awful forced romance. At least stop pretending that they have chemistry. Seriously, even if they had any, how could Barry possibly have noticed it? He spent like 10 seconds with James. I don't think I've ever been so frustrated with a pairing.
Oh my Grodd! Epic. Awesome. Fucking perfect. This is my show. Barry fucking Allen just phased an entire train, yes ladies and gentlemen, a fucking entire train through rocks! Just like in the comics with the airplane. Omg, I swear this show touches my heart, man. And then Wally took the bad guy phasing through him. Holy shit. I missed so much the good old "Run, Barry, Run" and now, listening to Barry saying "Run, Wally, Run", wow. This confirms Barry is Wally's Reverse Flash. Lol.
When Barry phased the wood wall I couldn't help but thinking "forgive me wood wall, but to me, you've been phased for centuries".
Aside from that crazy train scene, it was a solid episode. Iris telling the truth to Joe was heartbreaking. In a few months, Lance and Joe might be able to start the annual dead daughter club. And don't forget to call Diggle. Baby Sara always in our hearts. After Cisco's chat about quantum mechanics, mixing time travel with dimensional travel, you never affect yourself so that Barry (original Barry) still exists at some point. So that Iris will not die in another dimensional universe. Mind-blowing .
Oh my God and next week we've got Harrison Wells from Earth 2. Can you hear it? I'm hyperventilating. Dawn of the Planet of Grodd! Yeas, baby. A two episode event. Holy fucking shit. I'm so hyped right now. This will be very interesting, especially if Harry meets H.R. and we have two Wells at once. So now I think, if Harry comes back to Earth 1, could that Wells on the roof be the Harry? cause that's what I thought when I saw him, but this is the Flash , you never know for sure.
"I actually went to that class" "You better be going to all your classes" that delivery was just perfect. And at end, Barry acknowledging STAR Labs terrible security. H.R., the master of one liners "Holy Kardashians". I have so many questions about Earth 19.
"Do you wanna get a drink?" RIP Julian. you'll be missed. Her curse. I wonder who would die first if she met Sam Winchester.
Wow. Just wow. One of the most touching episodes of the series so far and one of the best ones. Fatherhood. I swear the parent-child drama gets me every time. I really appreciate the writers for this episode. These deep episodes that can as well be lived in real life are those that I like the most. You could say that superhero shows are those that you see to escape from the darker truths of life, to laugh and enjoy. But I certainly love that they put the focus on truths and life matters that are sometimes avoided in real life. While it is true that Maggie's story was incredibly sad, I'm playing the devil's advocate here. His father's reasons were incredibly plausible. however, his conclusions were terribly wrong. What I don't get is the "I was afraid you'd have a hard life so I made it harder". terrible. I'm certain the political aspect of it could've been handled better but I loved how Maggie stood for herself and got some closure. However, Maggie not wanting kids is gonna ruin their relationship. with all this focus, I don't forsee a happy future for them.
The Mars plot was outstanding. Any episode with J'onn J'onzz is a good episode for me but this one was the cherry on the top. That Chevy was just badass and he listens to Britney. I loved the departure scene like "get in loser. we're going to Mars". One of my favourite scenes was when J'onn's dad recognized him. Gutwrenching. Getting his dad back to his life...Lovely. Btw, Kara driving that Chevy in Mars while listening to Britney Spears being all sassy and quoting Bugs freaking Bunny was the best thing ever! That ligheardteness was needed.
Every emotion felt real, the CGI was great and that staff was brilliant. The action was so cool and J'onn's backstory is too precious.
Amazing and heartbreaking episode overall. it felt like I was watching a whole another show. what annoyed me a bit was that every white Martian took a human form even if they haven't ever seen one. Can't wait for next week!
Holy cow. Where do I start?
Guardian's storyline was pretty good. I'm glad that James finally has something to do, and his team-up with Winn is fun to watch. I absolutely loved Alex's scenes with Winn. The way she threatened him and smacked his head was hilarious. They have a wonderful brother/sister relationship.
If only I could get my hands on Lillian Luthor right now. I would cut the bitch. Nobody hits my girl!
Can Whiteboy McDullFace and Kara please not get together? Just don't do it. Come on.
Kara's message to Alex destroyed me. If I ever stop crying over the Danvers sisters, just assume I'm dead. I love them so much.
Jeremiah is alive! I mean, I guess we knew that, but it was nice to see him. I don't believe that they didn't do anything to him at Cadmus, though. They probably want us to think he's okay and then punch us in the face when we least expect it.
Some people speculated that Jeremiah would turn out to be Cyborg Superman, but I'm glad it was Hank. My sweet Alex doesn't need yet another heartbreak.
J'onn is turning into a White Martian! Oh, Space Dad. It's gonna be okay.
What the fuck is Medusa?
Alex and Maggie's storyline was, to absolutely no one's surprise, my favorite part of the episode. I totally get where Alex was coming from and Chyler Leigh did an outstanding job of channeling that mix of pain, anger and sadness. It was a very difficult situation for both characters, but I'm so happy that they were able to work it out.
Alex, my darling baby girl, my beautiful badass, love of my life. Don't worry. You will get the girl. You don't know it yet, but we do. You and Maggie are endgame.
Maggie is so obviously into Alex ("I don't want to imagine my life without you in it"? I swear, these two idiots will be the death of me). The only problem here is their bad timing, but sooner or later, they're bound to get together. And in the meantime, bring on the mutual pining, the jealousy, the lingering looks and all the cute moments that make you want to scream "Just get married already!" at your TV screen. I freaking love slowburn.
Oh, and can Maggie get her own scenes, please? You know, since she's a main character?
I'm always a sucker for Superfriends hanging out together at Kara's apartment. It brings me so much joy. More of that, please!
This keeps on improving. What an action-packed episode! The relationship drama in the Arrow one was totally worth it! So many great moments. The ending was just so damn sad. I knew it was coming but still. The quality of this episode felt movie-like. Character interaction was great and what can I say about Snart? He's just amazing.
I missed Wentworth Miller so damn much. His cheesy one-liners are still great. "I hate fire", that was a great dramatic entrance.
Seeing Melissa Benoist acting was a pleasure. Definitely, one of my favourite parts. It was impressive. I was looking forward to it since last episode but it surpassed my expectations completely. I was glued to the screen during that scene. She did a tremendous job at playing both characters that well.
"You are a better son than I could have ever hoped for. And no lenght of time or distance will ever change that". That was just beautiful. It filled my heart with warm feelings.
The music when Reverse Flash appeared in the wheelchair. The feels. God, I love to see Tom Cavanagh playing Reverse Flash. He's so menacing. It's the way he says things that I really missed "I'm gonna crack you open like a walnut". I loved that line.
I'm all for girlpower and strong women but there's no way in hell Iris and Felicity disarmed those soldiers and beat them up that easily. Not believable at all. Iris to Kara "Come with me if you wanna live". Honestly, I love this quote but sorry, in that moment it just felt stupid.
Seeing Harry and Cisco together is something I'll never get tired of. They have great chemistry together. They should get a flat together. And of course their cells are wall against wall, lol. I loved how angry Dinah looked like "I'm surrounded by kids".
Seeing Winn was a pleasant surprise. I loved the way he played the character. He was kind of a dick but I loved his scenes. "Look, fingerless gloves". Gotta love Sara. She might just have spent way too much time around Mick. It was such a Rory thing to say.
Nazi Quentin Lance was impressive. He was scary as hell and he played it very well. In a weird way it even seemed fitting. The accent was amazing and the way the "r" slipt was great. Personally, he was one of the most convincing doppelgangers. No matter the earth, he'll always be a cop.
"These poor strangely dressed individuals", says the guy with a fur hooded jacket and futuristic glasses. I laughed so hard at that one.
Barry's impression of Snart was perfect. And his remark "that is terrible advice. I always have a plan, down to the second, so nothing goes wrong". I loved that.
"I fought your cousin once. He was fast. I'm faster". Does this mean Superman exists on Earth-1? I know it's the Reverse Flash and that he could've travelled between worlds but I want to believe.
I laughed out loud when Sara said "that sounds like an oversimplification". She pulled an Ezra Miller in Justice League. That was so good.
A lot of intense stuff in this episode. I loved it.
I very much enjoyed the flashbacks and all the little pieces of backstory: J'onn becoming Hank and Jeremiah's involvement, Alex's wild days, Kara and Alex's difficult start (I'd love to see how their relationship progressed from there and how they eventually grew so close together) and Kara's beginnings at CatCo.
We also got Kara Danvers, a precious ray of sunshine who may or may not be a puppy in disguise, riding a motorcycle, clad in black. Unexpected, but very, very cool.
Lucy's finally in the loop, thank God. Also, she's back. I half-expected them to get rid of her now that her role as a third wheel in James and Kara's 'love story' has ended, but it's nice to see her again, without her dull boyfriend stuck to her side at all times.
Siobhan's a bitch (and she apparently has the most annoying superpower ever), Cat's flawless and Alex's a badass and the best human being on the face of this planet, but what else is new?
Overall, it was a solid episode, character-focused, which is what Supergirl does best. I'm very excited about the crossover with The Flash next week.
"I really love this show". I'm sitting here dying of laughter. These guys always get me. What a great episode!
"I love broccoli". Nate, 2017. profound.
"Quiet! The marshmallows are talking", rotflmao. I was in tears for ten minutes. He randomly eating a cheeto was something for the books. The writers are on drugs. I have a feeling Nick Zano was adlibing his lines. He had me dying. He tried to touch Sara's face and then said "Cobra!" Sometimes I can't believe this show is even real.
Ray's ridiculous bad guy outfit just makes me love him even more. "Don't be fooled by our disguises". He's an absolute cinnamon roll. He's gained the status. "I'm following her posterior from a respectable distance". Gotta love him.
Welcome to Legends, Zari! I was expecting her to get powers as the story progressed but I've got to say I'm cool with it.
Gideon is savage "What a bitch!" and "Bollocks!" feelt so right in a weird way. I love that even Gideon hates her. You know someone is bad and annoying when even Gideon swears.
"Prison Break. I'm in". Mick freaking Rory. So meta. God bless the writers of this awesome show.
I loved Kuasa. "I'd just kill you, but I'll be killing myself". So, is she Mari's sister? And she time travels with a rock?
Sara is such a badass. That scene were the ships were about to collide was so good. I'm down for Gary appearing every single time after he fucks time up and Agent Sharpe coming to blame the Legends. Gary is amazing. He's either going to be part of the team or backstabbing them. There's no in between. But I really love his character. He's also a fuck-up. He fits in with the Legends. That bar fight. What would it be of this show without a bar fight?
"You'll float too, Ray". That scene was freaky. I was expecting Pennywise to come out. Ray is so lighthearted. "Hi! What's your name? Mine is Ray Palmer". What's up with kids talking to monsters in the sewers? I want a whole story about Ray "the fuck up" Palmer. He's adorable in every era, even as a kid.
Buck's problem is that he constantly worries he's a burden and that he's not needed (or wanted), so he goes big, larger-than-life personality, and does too much to "earn his keep". It makes him seem arrogant and annoying (and he can be annoying), but what looks like arrogance is actually insecurity. Which is why this episode is a success - Buck is reminded that his life DOES matter, he does have positive impact on the people around him. Right down to the shower of get-well gifts that greet him at the apartment... he is wanted and he wants to be there to be a part of that big family he now has.
As for Chimney and his father, gaaaaaah, love it! That note about pride and stubbornness making both father and son not reach out to each other in the past, that is so SO accurate and recognisable. It is that much more powerful when they gently try to connect and make room for each other.
I'm the biggest sucker for family bonding themes, 9-1-1 and its sister show have been consistent in that area.
9/10 - for the "lightning and the thunder" and a life saved. The music set the mood.
One of my all-time fav shows, I'm finally rewatching (I believe a decade on from finishing the series - crazy), in conjunction with the new Podcast, Talk Ville - hosted by the Lex and Clark of this show, Michael Rosenbaum and Tom Welling. That means potentially 4-5 years of weekly re-watching Smallville.
I'm now getting to the see show with their knowledge and nearly with new eyes - as it's been so long since I've watched this. Obviously the special effects and just the visual quality of the recording are dated, but that's 20 years ago (I know... I keep saying it).
The first half of this episode really hinders Tom as he has to play this timid dweeb but in the 2nd half, he gets to open up and be more natural. Michael Rosenbaum is an excellent Lex and he just gets better and better as the show goes over. Its interesting watching Allison Mack on TV again, after all that's come out since. John Glover and Annette O'Toole are fantastic as the older stars, while John Schneider always looks like he's smiling and it's bugging me.
Some of the dialogue is hokey as it desperately tries fit in the ties to a larger Superman story. Some lines like "nothing will stand in the way of our friendship" (after knowing the guy for a few days) are bad, but made tolerable by Rosenbaum's acting. The way Ross and Sullivan come to suspect the "freak of the week" is extremely forced and rushed, this is a Clark centric pilot that in hindsight probably should have been 1 hour (or at least 5 more minutes). Even the tension between Whitney and Clark feels rushed .
Overall, this is a god pilot from a show that would only get better and better. After the end of the first episode - I wanted to pick up immediately with Episode 2, but that's for another week.
I feel like I would have enjoyed this episode a little more if I knew how to speak Spanish, not a major problem since I got the general gist of what was being said but it would have made it more enjoyable, I think.
I'm a little disappointed that when I google the show and read reactions to this episode there are people complaining about Sarah Reese (a fourth year medical student in the show) being 'incompetent' for missing the vein and not doing the chest compressions hard enough. So I'm about to do a little defending here. Firstly, medical students mostly practice on cadavers and dummies - which are not alive and do not move. Secondly, when doing chest compressions - as Sarah said - you break ribs, imagine that for a second. Pressing on someones chest so hard their ribs are cracking, imagine the noises, imagine how it feels - it probably feels a little like you're killing them rather than saving them, especially when that person is a child.
A little reference, also; med school is five years, then it's five years of residency (including intern year), two to three year fellowship in sub-specialty (e.g., trauma, pediatrics, etc), then become an attending for the rest of your life. So... in the grand scheme of things, Sarah Reese's incredibly new. Give her a break. People who've been in the job 20+ years have trouble with the basics sometimes.
Wow, that was absolutely amazing!!! I cannot content my excitement. I swear i'm so hooked on the Flash that I have seen the promo for a hundred times in a row. This weeks episode is incredible. I'm a Big time-travel freak and I love those moments when Barry time travels. They're always exciting, amazing and they drive me absolutely crazy. That Dementor was incredible and it all makes sense. Great job guys! another thing I love from The Flash Is the character played by Cavanagh. I'll keep on saying it. He's awesome. I loved seeing Wells/Thawne. He's the best character in the series and honestly, that scene in the time vault gives me the creeps. I loved seeing Eddie back, although expected. I didn't like his character so much at the very Beginning of the series but he ended up as a hero, and as Zoom says it, heros die. Anyway, loved the new arc set Between Barry and Wells/Thawne. A villian helping his archenemy. Dope. This episode explains certain things that were not properly explained in Season 1.
We know time travel has its consequences and apparently it had them, al least for our very own Harry Potter, Hartley Rathaway.
I loved Barry's continuous intention to help the others. In this case, Iris. He's so sweet and the real hero. His character has evolved a lot since Season 1, although messing up with time isnot one of his biggest assests.
And now what? waiting for 3 weeks to see another episode of this amazing and AWESOME show. That is therral complication. I can't wait forc3 weeks, come on, I can't barely wait for a single day. That's not good CW. You are evil and the real demon in here.
Anyhoo, anyone saw next episode's promo? That's gonna be good. Zoom's origins, Hunter Zolomon impersonating Hannibal Lecter and our "Jay Garrick" being a demon? wth, please someone call Sam & Dean. They will figure a way to stop this demon. And that sentence: "You can't lock up the darkness" with his demonic eyes. Sam & Dean will think differently. Sorry, big Supernatural fan.
Oh Royal Rumble 2014....I don't think I ever heard as much booing on a single PPV in my entire life and honestly for all the good reasons for most of the time.
The PPV actually got off on a very strong start. We had ourselves a wonderful 20 minute match of Daniel Bryan VS Bray Wyatt. It was easily one of the best matches of Brey's carrier as well as the greatest match of the night. The crowd was on fire mostly because of their love for Daneil Bryan and it added to an already greatly choreographed match. Sadly this could be the only truly good match of the entire PPV
Brock Lesnar vs Big Show was a fluke. Big Show was injured going into the match so we did not get much wrestling at all. The actuall match lasted around 2 minutes. The rest of the time we had to look Brock Lesnar beating on Big Show with multiple chairs. I disliked the booking on this thing to be frank. Not a single good thing came out of this excuse for a feud.
Randy Orton vs Cena was when the booing of the night really started and it is hard to blame the fans. People have seen Orton Vs Cena more times than WWE cares to admit. This feud needs to die and be forgotten once and for all. To top it off the match itself was certinly not among the best in Cena vs Orton library. To tell you the truth the fans chanting stuff like: "Boo", "We Want Divas", "Daniel Bryan", "Insert Wrestler's name they would rather see", "This is Awful" actually made this match more bareble. At least Orton knew how to work with it and got some legitimate heel heet. Still the match was a wreck.
Then there was the cherry on top of the cake that was the FU to the fans - The Royal Rumble match. Now the first half was actually really good. The booking was smart, we had a return from Kevin Nash, the wrestling itself was good for a royal rumble match. Still somewhere in the middle fans got tired of waiting for Daniel Bryan to show up....little did they know. The longer match went on the more negative the crowd became. Finaly when the 30th participant was revealed to be Rey Mysterio, the fans started booing their lungs out. I mean poor Rey got more booing in this match than he ever had in his entire career. With fans being rightfuly angry WWE decided to do even more spitting in our face. The one person that people did not want to win royal rumble was Batista. If WWE would have went for Dolph Ziggler, Romany Reigns (which they did the next year and the push failed miserably because of the wrong timing) or even Sheamus, the fans would not have been so angry. I mean who wanted to see Randy Orton VS Batista at main event at Wrestlemania? Still Batista won to much outrage.
Excluding the exellent opening match this PPV was a trainwreck through and through. The most booing you will ever hear in one PPV and a huge spit in the face of the fans. To tell you the truth the only thing that makes me want to give this PPV a good rating is the first match but one match is not enough by far especially because this PPV is not just bad or boring, it is outright offencive with WWE throwing a middle finger to the fans in the worst possible way. For this reason I can not for the life of me give this PPV more than a 3 and even 3 is kind of pushing it when only 20 minutes of a 2 hour and 45 minute PPV are worth watching.
That was fucking absurd. I loved it. Incredible episode. Damn I love this show and this episode was really funny. I'm still laughing so I have no idea what might come out. But may the Plotforce be with you. I loved the cast today. Everyone did a great job. And I got so hyped when I listened to those angry helicopter noises. Thawne certainly looks extra menacing in that lightning. Amaya, Ray and Nate's speech was superb: STAY IN SCHOOL! And that menacing pointed finger was quite convincing. I laughed louder that I should. George Lucas a the plot was just fantastic and the trash compactor scene was just so over the top. Where have I seen that before? lol And I'm glad Rip is back (thought I'd never say that outloud). He shouting at Vandal Savage because he wasn't threatening enough was hilarious. And I almost died of laughing when he didn't know how to use a gun. I actually though he was gonna hurt himself or one of the legends. And when he got arrested, that high pitched scream. I'll never recover. And Nate being a yoga instructor, yeah man, that sucks. And when Jax said he went to Sunday school, I pictured him singing Gospel. And Snart us definitely real. I refuse to believe he's dead.
The entire cast was amazing. I guess now it's RIP to Rip and Welcome Phil. Stein was on point: "I'm doing brain surgery, what's it look like?" And Sara and Jax accepting it like, OK, we don't have time, for your shit. And Merlyn's expression when he punched Nate, lol. I was a bit off when Dahrk and Merlyn were continuously missing shots like they were stupid or something. Then I realized they were Stormtroopers, lol. And the elevator scene. Seriously, I couldn't stop laughing. The music was just so damn perfect.
"Hi, my name is Phil. I'm a full time film student and a part time recreational drug user", oh man that was just brilliant. I loved how Nate kept on calling Lucas by his full name. I just loved everything on this crazy episode.
What a fun episode. Last season this show was a mess - vibrant, fast-paced, thoroughly entertaining mess, but a mess nonetheless. Now it seems a lot better for some reason. Maybe it's because they got rid of Carter and Kendra, who were by far the dullest characters on the show.
The story was actually really good. We got everything in this episode, from dinosaurs to Nazis. The writing was okay, the special effects were cool, I don't really have any complaints.
Stein's excitement over meeting Einstein was adorable.
Leave it to Sara Lance to flirt with a woman while she's being sentenced to death for "corrupting" women. Oh, Sara. Never change. I'm still hoping for a happy ending for you and Nyssa someday, but your shenanigans are hilarious.
I wish Sara had killed Damien Darhk. Then we could pretend that season 4 of Arrow never happened.
"- I'm here, Captain.
- You always are."
Damn it, Legends of Tomorrow. Ever since Person of Interest ended, I've thought I'd never care about an AI again, but here I am.
And Rip's speech at the end of the episode? Excuse me while I go throw myself off a cliff. I can't handle the feels.
The golden rule of the Arrowverse: if someone is fucking with the timeline, you can bet that it's a speedster. Wonderful. As if I didn't have enough reasons to hate Eobard Thawne.
What an awesome mid-season!!! Let's hope Arrow's is similar Tomorrow night. Snart, Weather Wizard, The Trickster, Wally West, Zoom. Everyone was on top of the game. The Rogues gallery in action. I Wonder how Wally's in the show is going to be dealt. I mean, is he a speedster as in the comics or is he just a normal guy?
What to say about the Trickster! He is absolitely insane ("You'll like to roast some chesnuts"). Amazing.
And Iris. Awesome interpretation. I love that scene with Barry telling him that she has a brother (got goose bumps). Finally, Iris has found the place she belongs too. Candice Patton's acting was amazing. She really get emocional out There. It all felt very real.
Now, my dear Wells. I kind of knew that he was going to help Zoom, but not because he hates Barry, but because he wants to free her daughter. So,in a way, that was not so surprising. What I did not expect was that Zoom wants Barry to get faster and therefore, get his power to be faster. This was a Big surprise. What I don't get is the reason why Zoom wants to be faster. He is the fastest speedster Alive, so why on Earth does he want that? Perhaps because he wants to go back in time and fix something and Barry is the only one fast Enough? Very unlikely but let's see what the future holds.
The beginning of the episode was awesome. Wells running from Zoom, why wouldn't he?
Another thing was Barry's speech to Wells. Incredibly emotional. Addressing to someone who killed Your mother and so on and being able to forgive him, wow. amazing.
I really enjoyed this week's episode. The trickster is awesome and how can't you listen to his voice and don't think it's the Joker? Awesome. As well as Weather Wizard and Patty's story. When Barry encouraged her not to kill Mardon, it was the perfect moment to Tell her hey Patty,I' actually the Flash. sooner or later, he'll do it.
Anyway, I enjoyed this episode so much, even though the Man in the Yellow Suit was dope. Waiting for next episode.
Merry Christmas!!
The JSA was freaking awesome. As someone who's read a grand total of 0 comic books, I had no idea what to expect from them, but they were super cool. Is this Vixen related to the Vixen that appeared on Arrow that one time?
I like the new guy. And his interactions with his grandfather were really nice.
I absolutely love the atmosphere of the 40's. Well, except for the blatant racism.
Sara wearing a 1940's evening gown and a diamond necklace is my new aesthetic. She looked georgeous.
Holy cow, Professor Stein can sing! I was worried for a second that this would be one of those scenes where he turns out to be horrible at it and I want to die of second-hand embarrassment, but thankfully I was wrong.
Of course, it wouldn't be an episode of Legends of Tomorrow if someone didn't start a bar fight. It's actually kind of hilarious when you think about it: a lovable team of misfits travelling through time, causing massive property damage in every alcohol-serving establishment they walk into.
The super soldier looked super cheap, but I can't really blame them. They probably did the best they could with their budget, and all the other special effects in this episode looked good, so I won't complain.
Hey, I quite like this Rex guy, I wonder if we'll get to see more of... Aaaaaaand he's dead. Damn it, Eobard.
Let's get Mxyzed!!! The Mxy Master's in the house. I loved everything with Mr Mxyzptlk. He was awesome. Can't wait to see him again. Can't get enough of that wonderful Mxyzptlk! "I don't have time to learn your moon language", lol. At the end I felt bad for him when he said "I just want someone to love me". I love you Mxy! All the time I was waiting for him to be in scene and to listen to that flamboyant sing-songy language. If he comes to my room right now, I wouldn't think it twice. "It's a bird, it's a plane...It's SuperMxyzptlk! I actually didn't expect him to be that handsome. Man, why do I love Tricksters so much? This is insane.
I relate to Maggie in so many levels: " "Valentine's Day makes me wanna puke". It made my day.
All the references were on point "You wanna get nuts? Let's get nuts". Michael Keaton, is that you? As soon as I heard it, I got the goofiest grin in my face ever.
I didn't mind that it was a relationship episode since it's a Valentine's Day story but it made me realized how many romance this show has been using lately. And even though some looked natural, others seem forced.
However, the episode felt like a large argument about why Kara and Mon-El are terrible together and it ended up with them being together... I'm not convinced. However, in this episode they really had chemistry. But they are extremely different together. Mon-El is so funny and Kara is awesome by herself but when they're together he becomes reckless and Kara's feelings seems forced. Message sent to young girls: even though he insults and demeans, doesn't respect your capabilities and lies to you, his love justifies his behaviour. Well, bullshit.
Winn's date looked like a vampire form Buffy. I feel that bar fight was staged just for her to get information out of him. She wants a Winn baby! I just hope she doesn't use him. What if she's using him to get to Mon-El? And James was great this episode, lol. And congratulations to Melissa for saying Mxyzptlk so many times.
