It is a story set in the shared universe of Parasyte. It is not exactly a retelling or adaptation. You can call it a spin-off if you like. The series actually hinted that right from E01.
Think of it this way, the Parasyte universe clearly explained that the parasytes landed in various locations around the world. This story, set in Korea, is simply one of those locations. For the first time, we are seeing the situation in Korea not told before.
That's what a shared universe is. So it isn't proper to compare it to the story set in Japan because that is just another story in the shared universe of Parasyte.
Have you ever wondered what it was like in the other locations where the Parasytes landed? They can make a spin-off for those locations.
Doesn't even come even close to the movie

I can't believe that the Chinese adaptation somehow did Judgement Day infinitely better with a fraction of the budget :sob::sob::sob:

Exactly! Tencent's 2023 adaptation for this episode was far better! Also, it wasn't disturbing. Like, Netflix's, kids, seriously?
And here I was thinking the original Resident Evil laser scene was cool.

The reason for that is because they cut a lot of stuff from the novel. Watch Tencent's adaptation instead, it makes far more sense and more impactful too.

I can't wait for this. I want to see this Western adaptation of the novel and compare it with the 2023 adaptation made by Tencent (China).

@c8d6e665-1c43-473f-bb8c-c1b1d548b3d9 Same! My hopes started to go down after they revealed there will be 8 episodes only! It is not easy to pack a novel in an 8-episode series. There are very few who tried that and succeeded.

@prankish Hahahha. True that. They more likely won't do it justice.
Where do you even watch this? I can't find it anywhere

The OTT service, Viu. They have subtitles and dubbed versions.
While I appreciate the film as a whole, I thought Lucy Gray's character was too idealized, reminiscent of a Disney-like portrayal. Not showing her death on screen is a missed chance to add more onto Snow's mind break. Also, not sold on Zegler as a singer.

We do not know the status of Lucy Grey, so of course they wouldn't show it in the Live-Action adaptation.

The Mission Impossible train keeps on running. This is yet another good entry in the series. Although . . . maybe I'm getting MI fatigue or maybe it actually didn't quite measure up to previous entries. As I'm writing this I'm remembering that most of the movie was shot during the Pandemic which may have something to do with why I perceived this as a slightly lesser entry.Looking forward to Part Two next year tho.
What's really scary though is that the movie was written in 2019 and is all about AI - and what has the tech world been discussing and fearing lately? AI!
I'm rambling - anyway - if you like the MI movies, you'll like this as well.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!loading replies
@schmoogie Well. We've been warning about AI since 2010, but no one's listening. People dismissed it all. Now that the first phase is here, everyone's trying to stop it… but it's too late to do that.
And… the AI people talking about today is not even "it". Wait until the National Social Credit system comes into full force (in China no less).
For me, what's closer to the reality was the cancelled TV series "Person of Interest" (the North American one, not Korean).

VIP2I'm still incredibly confused about what this show is actually trying to do. It appears as if we are finally getting some past lives content, but it's SO LATE in the show now.
It has spent 9 episodes crawling by on the "chemistry" of the leads with very little explanation of the plot? The thriller/horror aspect hasn't been touched, and I'm just not sure what it is I'm supposed to be getting narratively out of each episode.
loading replies
@munkinone I agree. Seems to be about romance and the 'horror' part forgotten.
And then the episode yesterday with the past lives was like, "What? Why now? What is this show about again?"

Things just got more fun in this second season, maybe because I've gotten used to the show's format. The cast I must say is incredible - each member brings something different to the table which makes the show really unique. The four of them mesh so well together that you feel nothing but good vibes watching them. Their chemistry is simply amazing. Also, just when you thought you knew everyone's humor and quirks, this season brings you new dimensions of their comedic genius.
Overall great entertainment, deserves all the hype and its high viewership.

@wade-kun Yep! They also did not bring much from S01, they showed us a new version of themselves. They played games differently, too, even though they played it before.
I don't know how much they planned it and how much was realistic, but they did it well. I can't wait for S03 and what new things they will bring to the table.

Everything was great for the 15 episodes~
but that last episode was bad..
They tarnished what the title of the drama indicated, the main character by going back to his poor body went against what the title of the drama was indicating, "Reborn rich", everything he did and experienced on the journey to the end became meaningless..loading replies
@kokosay I think it was fitting. You have to look at it from a different perspective. See my comment here on this traktTV page. ^_^

The pacing is daebak !! it happened sooner than i expected !!Thank Gods there is another episode tomorrow otherwise would have been tough to wait another wee with that clifhanger!!

@chillikun Yeah. I thought it's going to happen in episode 14 or 15.
Which means they have more interesting twists and turns in store. ^_^
Wait so are these people around and in the building from different years? Obviously none of them are from 10,000 BC that's for sure.
loading replies
@terpar Nope, the buildings guys, Silas, Aldrich, Gavin, and his mom (hiding in 1988), are all from 2076 L.A.
Something happened which split the group into four:
1. Silas - has his own agenda (although, IIRC, he was protecting Gavin/Isaiah because he made a promise to his mother, so they're probably "aligned"?)
2. Aldrich - had her own agenda
3. Gavin's mother - to permanently shutdown 1988
4. James (father) - who doesn't care what happens to the past as long as the future is saved
I think when they learned they were causing the sinkholes, James changed his agenda. They will stay in 10,000 B.C. and restart the human history their way.
Also, Gavin's mother said that their own future (2076) changed after the sinkholes started showing up randomly in their history. This is probably what gave James the idea to keep the portal open, and maybe to stay in 10,000 B.C.
I'm also suspecting that James is using the portals as a weapon. When they opened a portal to 1988, it caused an earthquake, a sign of an impending sinkhole.
If that is correct, then wherever the portal is opened, a sinkhole will eventually show up too.
The portal from the Lazarus project is one way. The sinkhole is the loop back. That is why the sinkholes are showing up. The energy produced by the Lazarus portal needs a loopback. Since no one's controlling it on the other side, a loopback portal shows up randomly.
Now, why a sinkhole? It's not the sinkhole per se, it is the location of the original portal.
Over time, throughout history, the elevation of land only kept on going higher and higher. Back in 10,000 B.C. compared to the modern era (1980s onwards), a lot of layers were already added.
So, when the loopback happens, it returns to the same elevation, and it is underneath the layers of soil that accumulated over thousands of years. Which resulted into sinkholes.
Only problem, the location of the portal is random. The only possible fixed thing is its elevation, hence the loopback portal is always underneath.
--- Another possibility, James already knew everything beforehand. His wife, Silas, Aldrich, they were all kept in the dark as to his actual agenda.

I hope Season 4 is not the last. Them guesting the characters from the prequels smell like this is a farewell to the franchise.

@youronlyone Well … now confirmed this is the series finale.
This is a 2020 series and already finished, so I don't understand why it's listed as 2021 here and in other sites.

Also, it is important to note that the main female character is autistic and as an autistic myself, they did well in portraying an autistic character, a female autistic at that.
