Not gonna lie, the ending sucks. It's the right ending for the story, and maybe it could have made sense with a couple more episodes. But it feels so rushed, and so many threads are left unfinished and it really really makes no sense.
First what didn't happen, even if we knew it for a while. No meeting between Lily and Ethan. That was an interesting story. We didn't get to see Mr Hyde, huge disappointment. The creature's storyline has been completely separated and then so pointless. At some point Victor discovered he knew Vanessa, never exploited. The others never find out what he did. Or that Dorian's immortal. Or what Lily is. Or that Ethan is the Lupus Dei.
Sure the show is supposed to be about Vanessa. But then why the other ? The creature's story has had no point for a while. Same for Lily and Dorian, so boring, and no link to the main story. Then what was the point of them when so many more interesting things have been left unexploited ?
Victor just bumps into the others and follows. That's... ok, nobody's even thought about him the whole season. Well, he deserved to be part of the ending, come on, then he should have not been left on the side until the last minute.
The fight is pretty good. As always, Cat is a beast. So badass, so interesting, why would they introduce her so late ?? It's a little plot armory though: even Victor kills vampires on vampires, just as good a shot and fighter as Ethan, come on. But, despite Kaetenay's tallk of giving Ethan the power to save her, he doesnt even use it there. No vampire/werewolf fight, huge letdown.
Then come Vanessa. And it's totally wrong. Did she really become the Mother of Evil ? No, that would have been more interesting. She wants to be killed. She does not even fight, or need to be convinced. So maybe Dracula tricked her, but she does not seem under a charm, or to have been coerced, and he does not seem to have any doubt about her either. Supposedly they've been together for over a week. But if she's not evil, or forced against her will, why did she even agree in the first place ? Why did she not just kill Dracula, because she totally could have. Or at least refuse him and not release a plague that kills thousand of people ? Or maybe she just had a moment of weakness and now has remorse ? But she is not even conflicted one way or another. What was the point of all this ? This doesn't make any sense. It's clearly missing at least another episode in the middle to develop this point.
As for Dracula, what was the point of pushing him so hard, making him supposedly so terrible that even Lucifer his shitting his pants next to him ? He was winning, but she is dead and he just leaves... He's not killing all of thel in anger ? No even attempting revenge on the man that killer her ? He's just "well, damned", and disappears ?
I'm not complaining that it's not a happy ending, or that Vanessa dies, it's a rather fitting ending. But all the rest ? What a massacre on a show that was so mastered until then. This episode is a huge disappointment and clearly does not does credit to everything that came before.
THE END
[cries in verbis diablo]
The End? Noooooo, why?
I'll miss this awesome show and the great talented actors; thanks to them and the screenwriters, directors, producers and the rest of the crew who made it possible. Thanks for this Show.
Special thanks to Eva Green for her outstanding performance of Ms. Ives, who made this show even better.
Eva green you deserve to win a couple of Oscars for this show.
Loving that opening song for a finale.
Well that's it. Finally Vanessa is at peace, I hope. I am not mad or sad that it ended this way... I thought it would end like this. But like I said in a previous comment, I think this was rushed. It needed one more episode or two I think... Like for example I don't know it could have been cool if Vanessa made Ethan fight or something... Then in defeat asks him to kill her... They could have explained better the wolf situation with Kaetenay (sorry if i forgot his name), it was vague... Also they introduced a kick-ass woman, Cat, and it could have been awesome to see more of her. sigh well, that's how shows work nowadays... It's sad that it didn't have the viewing audience it deserved. I am just glad there is an awesome, chilling show with AMAZING acting, and gave Eva Green a super hard character, and how she pulled it off... wow. She really is the show. And at the end you really learned to like all of the characters even when some of them weren't yur cup f tea.
Rory kinnear was truly exceptional and a very touching performance in the finale.
Eva Greene likewise has been incredible throughout.
The entire series had had excellent cinematography, script and performances.
I will miss this unique, thrilling, emotional and often disturbing program. Emotional yes, and it is rare you can say that about what is essentially a horror genre piece.
Beautiful ending to a beautiful show. There were some things I didn't fully agree with, but overall it was a good ending. Like the creator of the show said "You don't have to make seven seasons for the sake of making seven seasons." And I can appreciate that. The show told the story of Vanessa, and that has come to an end. It wouldn't make sense without her.
For me, it was a proper ending. That never was a happy show where everyone was happy, so, the main character dying is absolutely right. As the creator said: it was always a show about Vanessa Ives. We cannot disagree to that, so, if the show was all about her, to finish it was inevitable her death.
About the other things, I thought it was well explained. Every single character had your final story explained and it does makes sense.
I couldn't ask for a better ending.
Here is my big THANK YOU for all the people that made this show so good during this 3 years.
Honestamente eu esperava mais no que diz respeito a signos e símbolos, mas concordo com o comentário do @guuilpp.
Okay so it feels like the creator(s) knew that the show was going to be cancelled, so they decided to end it the "way they wanted" or on their own terms. It was still rushed. The creator says he always "knew" it was going to end this way (with V dying, which makes sense) but I call BS on them knowing it would be 3 seasons. Why would you swap out one of the main members of the core crew? Why would they introduce all these new/interesting characters and then do nothing with them?
Still not a fan of the token POC being swapped out. Silent and strong Sembene for strong and mystical Kaetenay. There was some cheesy ass line they had him say to Sir Malcolm that made me laugh. You can tell a white person wrote that, lmao.
I have a feeling they were going over budget and probably had multiple meetings w/Showtime about it. The creators probably had guessed the show would get canceled and made the decision mid-production to change the original way s3 was going to go. So they cobbled together the ending so they still had time to kill V off, an intended. Sad it went this way. While the ending went "their" way, I feel like they did a huge disservice to the end of Vanessa's story, with almost none of it happening on-screen.
I really enjoyed Rory Kinnear's performance though. He is so amazing at emoting with just subtle movements of his face, without any words or dialogue. I don't think anyone on the cast would've been able to pull off the emotions he did in the last few minutes of the finale. Oh, I wonder if that was more symbolism too, how the "monster" has fully returned to being human?
How are you going to have her turn two episodes ago, follow it up with an episode that does not feature her, and then have her be basically herself in the final episode with nearly no screen time at all. I wanted to see an evil Vanessa doing crazy shit (and maybe eventually be turned to good in her last moments alive, because yes, the ending should've featured her dying). All this build up for nothing.
Rushed final.
Maybe "the proper ending", but hurried, sloppy and insufficient... so, it was not the proper end. Could be, but it wasn't.
The ending was beautiful. I see no other way for Vanessa to go. However, the show wasn't all about her. I'm disappointed at Showtime. Obviously the show is extremely expensive to make but the cancelation came from the very same company that made 8 seasons of Dexter which is pure crap compared to PD.
Wot? Is it really over? Head scratcher....when shows like this gets chopped....and then, there are other shows with less substance that goes on and on and on and on....
I'm so disappointed.. Where is happy ending? They deserve it! But instead we saw this bullshit! Seems that i wasted my time for nothing.
... I'm speechless and no the good kind, the bad kind, the kind that say what the fuck is it with this ending, so shit. If you don't wanna make more then don't but this is pure retard
So is this the series finale?
Was that the end?! Wtf, Vanessa cannot be dead! And wTF? I HOPE IT GETS RENEWED FOR ONE MORE SEASON???? Because the other storylines seemed to not have ended quite right?????
AND THEY INTRO'D CAT SO LATE IN THE GAME AND SHE'S SO BADASS???????????????
hahahhahahaahha
WTF D:<

The story of Frankenstein monster is so heartbreaking. I must admit I did not think the series finale would come so quick. It was a proper ending for the story of Vanessa Ives but there was so much other stories that could have been told.....what could have become of Brona, Dorian, Dr Jekyll, Dracula, Lucifer... The possibilities
