In all of Folklore and fiction; there is no better friend than Samwise Gamgee !
6 films, and one ring to rule them all... These films never get old, indeed some beautiful work by Peter Jackson. A great picture, full on action packed, with a smashing cast!
So unrealistic, a bit of a cliche. Basically, it's so bad that you'll love it (and probably see it more than once, just like everyone else has). xD
I was a bit disappointed with this one. In general, I really like DC's animated movies/shows, but Justice League: War just doesn't have much substance. The plot begins immediately, characters begin coming into play without much introduction or development (I suppose on the assumption we already know who they are, which sometimes works), and the fighting and mayhem commences (and constitutes most of the movie). I found myself somewhat bored midway through, just waiting for the JL to eventually win the day.
Nothing like the original , but it was entertaining. the cast was interesting I have great respect for their individual body of work so seeing them in this remake was enjoyable. No one can ever replace Brenner, McQueen, Bronson and Co. #ShiftvW8
Good action, but that's where it ends
I went to see the movie as a great fan of the original "The Magnificent Seven" in 1960 and came out of the theater really disappointed. Not because this was a bad movie, but just because Antoine Fuqua made this a normal action movie which does nothing more than entertain the average movie crowd.
Sadly, the action is the only good part in this movie. Some shots are really awesome and really got me on the edge of my seat, but unfortunately that's where the good things ended.
First, the movie had to be at least a half hour longer just to explore the characters. I didn't care about anyone and although Denzel Washington and especially Ethan Hawke did an excellent job in portraying their role, it still wasn't enough to get me invested.
Second, where was the good music? I was waiting for two hours on that one famous song that made the original great and we got it when the credits rolled. Big let down for me. Drum roll and high pitch notes do the work for this movie, but it didn't make the movie stand-out next to all the other action based movies.
Overall, the movie wasn't what I expected it to be and that surely wasn't a compliment. Maybe I would do a re-watch on Blu-ray if they came out with an extended version, but that's a big maybe. The cinematic version didn't just do the trick.
Great action scenes, but that's it.
Totally awesome! Not for kids =)
Great storyline, adult cartoon, but the drawings are terrible, horrible traces and bizarre anatomy!
Everything is just so messed up. Awesome!
Great story line. I really enjoyed a version of Flash that wasn't so superficial and cracking jokes the whole time. And the Batman timeline twist totally caught me off guard. Nice touch.
A great movie with some good twists and turns. Julia Roberts is Always great in any role that she plays. Julia, Meryl Streep, Susan Sarandon and Angela Bassett are my favorite actresses. I liked this movie from start to finish. I never saw the Spanish version of which this movie was based on. Chiwetel is good in all of his roles too. I am not a big Nicole Kidman fan, but she has done some good roles and she is cute too. I first remember seeing Nicole years ago in a movie titled "Dead Calm" in 1989.
Very good surprise twist when Julia's {Jess} confesses at home to Ray and Claire that she killed him 13 years ago. I was thinking that it would end in a couple of minutes only to find that she did not kill him, but had him locked up in a self made prison in her home far out in the country where no one can hear him scream. Hum, I wondered after all the years she kept him alive, did she allow him to wash himself up, change his clothes once in a while otherwise he would stink so bad that she would not be able to stay near him.
I liked tension and sexual chemistry between Chiwetel Ejiofor {Ray} and Nicole Kidman {Claire}. You really knew that Ray had serious feelings for her after he nearly beats the suspect into a FUBAR.
Alfred Molina's {Martin} tells Ray that Harvard law don't date junior college, {great line}. It would have been great to see Martin walk in and find Ray and Claire in a romantic compromise which would have made Martin bitter and envious. That would have shut Martin's big mouth with the quickness.
It was disappointing that every time Ray and Claire were in a romantic scene there was an interruption by a cell phone or something to prevent the obvious attraction between them. After they held hands in the car, they should have kissed at least once to seal the deal between them.
The movie might be showing its age, or maybe I'm showing mine. The structure just felt off. The pacing was much too slow until the last quarter. There's something grating about Maverick's character—there's supposed to be, but I couldn't really find anything to like about him. And of course the romance is entirely unnecessary, but that's been a Hollywood problem since long before this movie (and still is).
I saw this movie way back when, and the first thing I’ll tell you is that the concept is memorable, but not so much the plot. I remembered the switching of the faces, the faceless Nic Cage, but I remember little else. I couldn’t remember how they got away explaining the voice change or really – how putting a face on another man even works. I mean, the bone structure, jaw line, hair line, body weight, chest hair, hair length, etc…differed on both bodies. A simple face switch wasn’t going to work – and not even an “it’s just a movie, relax” explanation was going to cut it…thankfully, there’s not only an explanation, but it shows us everything. It might not be an exact science, but the movie did a good job making it reasonably believable and that’s all that matters.
The story, on the other hand, could use some work. It’s really a very basic cat and mouse tale with generally bland characters. The two leads are different enough from each other in order for them to need to impersonate one another throughout the movie (which was kind of cool), but as far as a colorful background, the characters are simply linked to a family member, but you know little else about them. Instead, it focuses a bit too much on the action and violence side of things. If that’s why you’re watching, you won’t have a bad time. The action, as well as the violence, were both done rather well, and it was mostly fun kicking back and watching the things that happen unfold. If you want to see something meaningful and memorable, I’m afraid a different body switching film may be the opportune choice there.
All in all, Face/Off delivers an unforgettable concept along with all the action and violence a man’s man could ask for, but it leaves out a meaningful plot and offers only half-developed characters. It’s fun, but a bit incomplete. Another year in pre-production could have made this movie a winner.
This movie is a 5 that got a 6 because of Tom Hanks.
For once they got some of the details of the Arab World. Not the best story in my opinion but an interesting one.
FX are good, the actors are too but seriously the scenario is missing.. 404 - Scenario not found
Amazing! Everyone should see this! And I'm not just saying that because I'm an environmental hippie that likes to learn a bit more about nature, or because David Attenborough is a personal hero of mine, but the images are just so incredibly gorgeous!
It wasn't that funny - I was laughing at people laughing at it more than the actual movie. Some of the animation is amazing though and there were a couple of genuinely funny moments. Most of it was dull and predictable. I prefer Inside Out than this movie.
I was quite disappointed. Decent visuals but predictable story development, overly dramatic music, and nothing we haven't seen in Dead Space or Mass Effect. I like Sandra Bullock but if you want to watch a nice space movie, go and watch Moon instead.
Who would've thought that one of the best SciFi Action movies of the year would come from Netflix? Well, in the future we might consider that more and more if this is anything to go by. Sure, the movie had a few minor issues but overall it was a pretty well directed romp, decently acted & with even a semi believable/scientifically sound premise and some top-notch visuals. Certainly enjoyed this one and will keep my fingers crossed for more quality material like this from Netflix, they've had a good year IMO.
I can't see through all the tears. Completely blown away by Eddie Redmayne's performance.
Mel owns the movie and yeah you still don't want to cross a Mel Gibson character after all these years. The rest of the cast is less impressive though. Get over Mel having issues and give him more roles. Trump has issues and a big mouth and he's running for President. When Mel kicks ass as an actor still, he should be in more movies.
This movie will be enjoyed best by 13-16 year old boys. Its a children's movie.
Its 100m$ on CGI and 1000$ on script and story. You can guess the whole movie from the first 5 minutes, it has all the worst used up cliche's in the book.
The first movie made much more sense from the actions the characters took. Here, they're all idiots (humans and aliens).
If you choose to watch it, expect only normal level of GFX and nothing else. If you're looking for gripping storytale - move along sir, nothing to see here.
barely 5/10.
Such a mess of a movie.
I didn' t expect much and haven't watched the trailer before but apparently this movie is focusing on the younger audience only and not on the people who watched the first movie back in the day. It's one of these moments when you realize you get old.
Way too young cast, a dumb plot, so no-one needs to think about anything, degrading this movie to a shut-your-brain-off popcorn flick/time waster you forget instantly after leaving the cinema, clichès as far as the eyes can see, cringe dialogues, incredibly studid decisions by humans and aliens.
Liam Hemsworth is the actor to draw in the young audience and a total miscast for this kind of movie but he fits in with all the other young actors who are out of place as well. But that also means he will be the more or less tragic or cool hero and "win" a gorgeous woman at the end of the movie. How could it be different?
Hemsworth's literally horny sidekick is annoying the moment he appears, throughout the whole movie and is the deliberate comic relief and simply hateable as his character is written so blatantly obvious and without any care. You instantly know what trope his character is and what role he will have the rest of the movie.
You are in the alien ship and he carelessly jumpscares you: haha, how funny!
He's talking loudly, called out on it to be quiet and keeps going being loud, endangering all of them: haha, how funny!
He is fawning over the beautiful, "unreachable" daughter of the chief in command on the moonbase we all know he will get later anyway for no reason other than "we went through this sh*t together": soo original.
Liam Hemsworth is peeing in front of the aliens to distract them: haha, how funny and mature.
...and the aliens even fall for that crap.
The whole movie could only happen in its entirety because of the first major decision that was made for no other reason than plot.
Levinson is some kind of an authority when it comes to aliens but he is ignored to enable the movie when he says not to fire at that spherical spaceship, that looks so difficult to the others and behaves totally different as well. That appearance wasn't even foreshadowing, it was an obvious spoiler to how they would be able to win this time against the aliens and took out any kind of suspense there could have been from the get go.
The movie is predictable all the time and doesn't even try to avoid (or hide) it, ultimately leading to me not being entertained at all.
Recurring actors were all a total waste, except perhaps for Goldblum.
Brent Spiner, who plays Dr. Okun, was additionally unbelievable and simply unnecessary.
Using a poweroff button as sign for the resistance against the aliens was preeeetty lazy as well in the design department.
Easy cash grab movie. I have no doubt the next ID movie will be even worse. Here goes my hope for a good Stargate reboot down the drain. I hoped it would give the franchise a possibility to relaunch a series or so but I heavily doubt that now.
But to not only say negative things about this movie: the CGI effects weren't bad.
One of the best car shows since the beginning. Not like all the american where at a certain point all they do is shouting and yelling and trying to be cool.
Mike & Ed stay true to themself. They fix cars.
Good movie until the plot twist. After that everything changes... to worst.
The thing about this movie are the wonderful background landscapes. John Sturges loved widescreen formats, in an age when most cinemas still had 4:3 screens, as a norm. However, the cast feels lost against the backgrounds. Anyone familiar with retro-TV will recognize most of the supporting cast members as popular character actors that used to play antagonist roles in all the popular shows of the late 60's and 70's, including my favorite "heavy", Ron Soble (Wyatt Earp in Star Trek's "Spectre Of The Gun" and Queng-Dri in The Six Million Dollar Man's "The Coward"). This is nothing but a minor work in Sturges' and Eastwood's filmography, but it's well worth watching it.
Thank you for 600 episodes!
What a journey.
Like it for what it is. This isn't some happy go lucky shiny Marvel film with RDJ quipping his way through and appeasing the masses. This is classic DC darkness. It shows the side of both our heroes that needed to be aired. We finally saw the weight that Superman has to carry on his shoulders. Despite my initial reservations, Affleck did a fantastic job in this role and Gadot's Wonder Woman was also a pleasure to watch. She wasn't the wispy sex symbol I feared but instead a true force to be reckoned with including a hint of layers yet to be revealed.
Cannot wait for the directors cut.
Well I just fkng love this show !!
Just 25 minutes in and I think Westworld could be the next Battlestar Galactica. It's more dark than the movie from the 70's. Just not sure why the engineers don't see all the crazy shit Ed Harris has been up to though. If they are always watching the robots.
Still, as a fan of the original movie, this show is pretty kick ass and I can't wait for more. The movie is pretty outdated and this show makes a great insanely awesome update. Even if all of it doesn't make complete sense so far.
