After my second viewing today I have to take back a couple of things of my first review (scroll down). I now realize that I have expected and hoped so much after waiting for two years that it distracted me from what was actually happening. I was waiting for so much I wanted to happen that it definitely took away from my first experience yesterday. Today I could enjoy it only for what it was not what I wanted it to be and I liked it a lot better.

@galileo5 Thank you for adding to your review. A lot of what I see here now are fanboys angry that the film didn't play out the same way it did in their head. Sci fi fans have this problem more than most, they build their own world and reflexively lash out when it's torn down in front of them by some upstart filmmakers. We won't be able to truly judge this film until the trilogy has been completed, so I think people need to save their breath.

@jaw72 Thank you for the recognition. On the one hand I can understand the unflattering comments. People have a lot of emotion invested in these movies and they trust the people behind it to do right by them. Expectations arise which cannot all be met and there’s inevetably a disconnect between what some fans like to see and what’s on screen. It’s almost impossible to leave that behind and just give in to the director’s creation. On the other hand you will rob yourself of seeing the movie through objective (read clear) eyes and you miss quite a lot of details. At least that was my experience yesterday. I knew some of the things I hoped for would not happen. Without that hope I was free and saw what Johnson was going for. It sure is different from what I had in mind but it’s not wrong. It’s just different “from a certain point of view”.
