OK, The Purge franchise is not the most prestigious franchise out there. But I found every single one of them to be suspenseful and frightening. Once the "purge" countdown starts, the sense of danger is always looming and I love that about the first three movies.
So back to The First Purge.
I can tolerate and understand the necessity of political underpinnings. But I just didn't feel the sense of urgency and danger. All the main actors did a credibly good job and the film is shot well enough. But the story and the villains (except fantastic but all to brief Skeletor) were just not compelling enough to carry the film.
