We finally learn the secrets of Holden's visions inside the Ring hub.
The ring showed Holden a vision of it's past. It's an organic ai tech. Its purpose was to create a road/portal, and to use anything in it's way to do so, it didn't care about what it killed or destroyed as long as it achieved its purpose. The civilization that created it is long gone, killed by something greater and darker destroyed them, and it continued to eat it's way to space. The protomolecule destoryed stars and planets trying to stop the darkness from expanding. And this is what Holden fears... the darkness rety againt. aching our system with no defenses.
Naomi finally reunites with Holden after months apart. Holden confides in her what he saw, the death and destruction at their door. But Holden, for some unknown reason has been the center of it all, needs to figure out how to save humanity. Holden is willing to sacrifice himself to save everyone, but he just needs to be told how to do it.
Meanwhile, our dear OPA leader Ashford knows everything Holden saw and he is ready to destroy the ring. Kill it before it has a chance to destroy them.
