still the BEST eleven opener besides the eleventh hour.

as much as it makes me sad to think the doctor really invited his friends to watch him die, i love the idea of him trusting them THAT much and seeking them out when he thought his time was up. really makes the words spoken in the finale "Of all the things you've told me, this I find hardest to believe. Why would you invite your friends to see your death?" "I had to die. I didn't have to die alone. Amy and Rory. The last Centurion and the girl who waited. However dark it got, I'd turn around, and there they'd be. If it's time to go, remember what you're leaving. Remember the best. My friends have always been the best of me." that much more potent and powerful. you see how much eleven cares about them and river enough to want their comfort when he's dying even when he knows it'll hurt them to see it.

the scenes that mess with me the most: the eleven & amy scene in the tardis and the river & rory scene in the tunnels. the eleven & amy scene is so beautiful and makes me cry. "Swear to me. Swear to me on something that matters." "Fish fingers and custard." "My life in your hands, Amelia Pond." that scene always gets to me as you can truly see how much eleven trusts amy to the point where he's willing to go somewhere that he 1. doesn't want to and 2. doesn't trust the info enough. i've always thought that the one good thing moffat did in his era was strengethen the friendships/relationships with his doctors and their companions. like eleven/amy, eleven/clara, twelve/clara, and twelve/bill. they were all created so beautifully and developed and you can see the true friendship i.e. eleven & amy and twelve & bill while you can see the budding romance between eleven/clara and twelve/clara. the scene with river and rory in the tunnels always breaks my heart. she talks about how that worst day is coming when the doctor won't know who she is and that's the day she dreads most and how she thinks it'll kill her....

the ending scene with amy and eleven is one of the best in the entire doctor who series. it's the first time in new who, i think, we see a companion physically pick up a weapon, something the doctor swears against, to protect his life before anything actually happens and it's powerful. this entire episode amy talked about wanting to avenge his death or stop it from happening, even going as far as asking river about it, and she does it. then she sees it's a little girl in the astronaut suit and that changes everything, but it's too late.
