The movie is less and less about the notorious serial-killer, and more about the descent of three men into madness; the unraveling of their obsessions. David Fincher employs tracking shots so meticulous, that they soon become invisible yet a very integral part of his filmography.
One interesting tidbit I noticed was that the story of the Zodiac killer starts and ends with the same song — Hurdy Gurdy Man, by Donovan. Everything comes full circle, and the keen watcher definitely gets the closure he deserves.

It's long, but watchable atleast once.
