Imagine this being your first introduction to pokemon.
The CG was decent at parts and other times actually so awful I wondered if I was watching a movie or a high school project. The absolute worst part was when they were putting Mew into the truck at the facility he broke out of. Another awful one is when the giant Torterra are spawning. They look like rag dolls. I was embarrassed.

The acting was not good and the female character was completely disposable with zero chemistry between either of them. One scene in particular, the main character is meant to be sitting beside pikachu reminiscing about his poor relationship with his dad, gradually becoming teary but his delivery is so deadpan it's like a robot pretending to be human. He acts in a similar manner when sitting on his bed his dad set up in their apartment and wipes tears that aren't even there.

Kids films shouldn't get a pass to be awful when you know this is targeted at those looking for a nostalgia trip. The music was completely forgettable and some tracks were so overused they could be in any film. Additionally the story was so loosely formed and it treats us like idiots in the resolution where Mewtwo shows a flashback of putting main character's dad into pikachu's body instead of just separating them. The character came to the same conclusion already. they should have used the budget on the scene to improve the CG.
