The fact that it's a true story makes it difficult to dispute the reality of the story. Reading a bit about medics in World War 2 shows that medics weren't required to carry weapons so it's curious that it came down to a Court Marshall proceeding for the other soldiers to leave him be and get on with the job. That said, it really is a remarkable story.

@maphiagurl There's a difference between not being required to carry weapons on the battlefield and not being trained to use a weapon at the bootcamp.
