The otherwise quite bland script does a good job at introducing Hal Jordan as a fearless yet irresponsible character.
Mark Strong puts in a good performance as Hal's mentor Sinestro, even if the character itself is a bit one-sided.
The brisk pace makes sure you don't get bored at least
The Bad:
It's very difficult to take Green Lantern and all its space adventuring seriously since everything looks so fake.
Ryan Reynold's clearly doesn’t give his best performance here, and he lacks any real connection to his supposed love interest, the equally bland Blake Lively.
Parallax is not only the ugliest film villain ever; he is also one of the most boring and useless ones out there. Poor Peter Sarsgaard really cannot save a character like that.
None of the alien stuff is interesting and Green Lantern suffers from a lack of real story progression and actual superhero action. Most of the movie is endlessly setting up stuff that barley happen at the end of the feature.
The script forgets it’s a superhero movie and halfway through it turns into a bloated attempt at being just that - bit the result is a bland, unbelievable and un-captivating film.
The green suit is truly terrible.
Storywise the film makes very little sense, since the film never addresses its own dramatic turns properly before moving on from them. Case in point: Hal quitting the Corps before even becoming a real member of the group.
A lack of a real threat, personal or Earthwise, which would give the characters a reason to exist.
The final battle is incredibly sloppy and boring.
Verdict:
Green Lantern is a mostly failing CGI extravaganza that goes way over the top and never feels or looks realistic or compelling enough to stand out on its own.
