Another brilliant episode about Datas journey towards becoming more human but also about humanity in general. It also builds up a little bit on "Measure of a Man" as it seems obvious why Starfleet wants to take control of Lal. There are so many great lines in here. I was a little bit taken aback at first about Picard's behavior towards Data at the beginning. But ultimately he comes around and, once again, stands up for Data, and Lal, as sentient beings.
The end is really heartbreaking and one of the huge differences to many of todays shows is, that you care for a character you only "met" at the beginning, while today you care not for them after a full season. At least that is true for me.
Oh, and if Lal means "beloved" isn't that the same as Imzadi ? Never noticed that before.
