@andreas1138 Picard was very much different from Kirk which I think was another reason many fans had difficulties adapting. Kirk needed to be more of a loose gun on some occasions, he could be diplomatic, too, if needed.
Star Trek was still very episodic at this time. Which often led to rather superficial stories. That would change later on.
@finfan I sometimes forget that this is a new series following TOS. These days you can watch a lot of Star Trek series. The writers were probably trying to understand the right elements. I am curios to keep going since you say the series will change later on. I am finding the episodic style adeguate so far, and interesting, once they tell how is life aboard.
@andreas1138 I have to remind myself constantly that you haven't watched the show yet and don't spoil something. But from your comments so far I am certain you will enjoy it moving forward.

@finfan I admired Picard in the first season thanks to his ability to confront others. He is very good with aliens too.
The Nagilum character was interesting, but I was hoping for a more scientific mystery, maybe investigating a wormhole or something like that, instead of having another superior entity to defeat somehow.
Good episode, though.
